Christiane Beerlandt was born with an incredible gift that allows her to penetrate the deepest mysteries of the human psyche. This Flemish au- thor started writing books out of a heartfelt concern for all the suffering of mankind. In the Dutch and French speaking countries, her books have gained widespread appreciation among laypersons as well as profes- sional health workers. They have become standard reference works in the field of self-realisation, psychosomatics, health, nutrition, the deeper symbolic meaning of happenings, etc. According to Christiane Beerlandt, every disease corresponds to a specific psychological-emotional disharmony. Becoming conscious of this, and work- ing at resolving it, can offer an invalu- able, complementary support to other therapies. More than 10 years’ experi- ence with the Dutch and French ver- sions of her book The Key to Self- Liberation — 1,000 Diseases and their Psychological Origins” has often shown spectacular results in people who used the texts for their personal healing and evolution. Now, finally, the English ver- sion of this encyclopaedic work has come out. Christiane Beerlandt: “Every illness is a ‘symptom’ of something that lies much deeper; every illness, no matter if it is a common cold or a heart condition, is a ‘signal’ that something is going wrong on the deeper psycho-emotional level (that means going against the life cur- rent). Every illness has its origin in a much deeper level than the purely physi- cal! It all germinates very profoundly in- side the human being and finally mani- fests itself in the body: the body speaks ‘a language.’ The body voices, brings out, that which inwardly is going ‘well’ or ‘wrong.’” Does this mean we have to blame our- selves when falling ill? “Not at all! You must never feel guilty about your disease, but understand in a warm and loving way the ‘why and wherefore.’ Never blame yourself, nor point at someone else because of his or her illness, but always remain in loving understanding toward yourself, toward others. Every human being is in a state of evolution, in his or her own way. On the con- trary, it can be good for many people to use them in a certain phase (even though many heal themselves without them). Here lies the free choice of every human being. One must realize, however, that one has to work, in the meantime, on the ‘true’ healing of an ailment. The funda- mental healing of an illness will only take place when one realizes and solves its fundamental cause: and that happens on a deeper level than the purely physio- logical or chemical. That actually hap- pens on the emotional and psychological levels, in the realm of emotions and convictions, of expectations, and of the image one has of oneself.” How can a viral disease like flu have a psychological origin? “There is a reason that you ‘get’ this specific illness and not another — that it is not your friend, but you, who are be- ing infected with this or that virus. Yes, because on a deeper level — inside you — there is a psycho-emotional condition that is ideal ‘fertile ground’ for this vi- rus! And your friend, who is not at all afflicted with this (unconscious) prob- lem or this ‘psycho-emotional field,’ is therefore not being infected. In the case of flu, it’s about an unconscious longing for rest, because hectic, stressful life has been too demanding. It becomes too much for the person, as does the busy- ness around him; he’d like to be peace- fully alone for a little while — a flu will permit this. It’s like an anchor being thrown out. There are also other factors, but that would lead us too far.” Many professional health workers have been astonished when seeing the whole- some effects of the Beerlandt texts on their patients. They found that, if some- one really understands the deepest psy- chological-emotional causes of his or her disease and works at resolving them, then unsuspected self-healing powers are triggered. Some of them have al- ready read other books with similar premises, going also into the emotional undercurrents that manifest physically, but find that in comparison to Christiane Beerlandt’s book these other books are quite elementary, lacking the profundity and striking precision of “The Key to Self-Liberation.” How does traditional medical science react to your theories? “More and more doctors question them- selves about the deeper causes of ill- nesses they treat. Christiane Beerlandt was born with an incredible gift that allows her to penetrate the deepest mysteries of the human psyche. This Flemish au-thor started writing books out of a heartfelt concern for all the suffering of mankind. In the Dutch and French speaking countries, her books have gained widespread appreciation among laypersons as well as profes-sional health workers. They have become standard reference works in the field of self-realisation, psychosomatics, health, nutrition, the deeper symbolic meaning of happenings, etc.

According to Christiane Beerlandt, every disease corresponds to a specific psychological-emotional disharmony. Becoming conscious of this, and work-ing at resolving it, can offer an invalu-able, complementary support to other therapies. More than 10 years’ experi-ence with the Dutch and French ver-sions of her book “The Key to Self-Liberation — 1,000 Diseases and their Psychological Origins” has often shown spectacular results in people who used the texts for their personal healing and evolution. Now, finally, the English ver-sion of this encyclopaedic work has come out. Christiane Beerlandt: “Every illness is a ‘symptom’ of something that lies much deeper; every illness, no matter if it is a common cold or a heart condition, is a ‘signal’ that something is going wrong on the deeper psycho-emotional level (that means going against the life cur-rent). Does this mean we have to blame our-selves when falling ill? “Not at all! You must never feel guilty about your disease, but understand in a warm and loving way the ‘why and wherefore.’ Never blame yourself, nor point at someone else because of his or her illness, but always remain in loving understanding toward yourself, toward others. est Living Essence sends us signals, such as a disease, in order to help us to evolve: so that we may change some-thing in our existence, in order to be-come happier people.”

Are you against medical treatment? “I am not at all against medicine or other remedies from the outside. On the con-trary, it can be good for many people to use them in a certain phase (even though many heal themselves without them). Here lies the free choice of every human being. child that has a sore throat. Et cetera… Even if it’s not possible yet, I am con-vinced that science will come to the same conclusions as the information in my book, be it via other routes. But the equipment to measure psyche, emotions, energetic happenings, personal evolu-tion, or the relationship between the in-ner self and the physical body, does not yet exist or is still inadequate. Anyway, for the countless ‘regular’ and ‘alterna-tive’ doctors, care-givers, and laymen who already have worked with the in-formation of the book for years and made contact with me, there doesn’t need to be any further proof. They all say it simply works like that in daily life. This makes me extremely happy, be-cause it shows how the human being can liberate and heal himself fundamentally, as long as he gains insight and suits the action to the word — with or without remedies from the outside.” What does an organ like the stomach tell us? “That’s a long text in the book, impossi-ble to summarise in a few words. The stomach asks us, among other things, to be entirely honest with ourselves and with others, to honestly stand up for our opinion and our feelings. It symbolises the emotional digestive system: how do you deal with new information, new im-pressions? It points at the hidden emo-tional world, at being an ostrich: do you anxiously push certain things toward un-conscious regions? Do you close your eyes to certain problems, but do they keep gnawing at you? Do you bottle things up while remaining silent ? Jus-tice and conscience, among other things, find their place here. Why don’t you di-gest? Do you blame yourself? Do you feel guilty? The stomach asks you to find rest in yourself, and trust in your inner wisdom, your intuition: don’t let your brain go crazy in fretting without end. Only this unlimited trust in your deepest, divine Self will liberate you from anxieties and nervousness. The stomach wants you to come out of your shelter and speak. These are only a few

aspects of the psychological meaning of the stomach.” Why do so many people have high cholesterol levels in their blood? “I don’t think it has much to do with one’s nutrition. I saw people whose eat-ing habits perfectly corresponded to the present norms of so-called ‘healthy nu-trition’ have extremely high cholesterol

levels, and other people who didn’t bother at all about these norms have low cholesterol levels. Why? Because the psycho-emotional characteristics that cause the cholesterol level to rise were present in the former and not in the lat-ter. When you read the text about cho-lesterol in the book, you understand why this phenomenon is so widespread in our society: pressure to perform, suppression of the spontaneous, happy child in us, living only ‘to give a good impression’ to the world outside, etc.” What about cancer? “That depends of course on the type and the location of the tumour, but there are nevertheless some general psycho-emotional characteristics that all cancer patients have in common. One important aspect (there are many others) is that they have often sacrificed their lives to their work, or their family, or their chil-dren, or an ideal, or a religion, or an au-

thority, or whatever. But their true ‘I’ has always remained absent. Strange, dark cells then take up the space of original ‘I’ cells. The so-called ‘sponta-neous healings’ of so-called ‘incurable diseases’ according to traditional medi-cal science, can be explained by the psy-chological evolution of the patient who has resolved — consciously or uncon-sciously — the underlying psycho-emotional problem.” Do you sometimes fall sick yourself? “I’m only human, so I sometimes attract small signals which I endeavour to in-terpret correctly. Nevertheless, it’s more than twenty years ago now since the last time that I was really ill.” Christiane Beerlandt’s book “The Key to Self-Liberation” consists of two parts. The first part offers innovative philoso-phical viewpoints, according to which the author experiences life, and practi-cal guidelines to take one’s own life in hand. The voluminous second part con-tains alphabetical entries about some 1000 diseases (from abscess, ADHD, al-lergy… to vomiting and zinc deficiency) and has chapters about the symbolism of the organs (heart, brain, glands, etc.) and other parts of the body (vertebrae, fingers, chin, etc.). Christiane Beerlandt: “Let this book function as a ‘Key,’ but don’t cling to it. Go onward, live yourself, and be your own master. Never cling to a signpost. You can only make grateful use of it in order to more quickly get upon your track of life. Always listen to your heart. Follow nobody, except yourself. It’s the joy in your heart that keeps you healthy!”
