ACADEMY OF SCIENCESHYDERABAD5TH YEAR [B. ARCH] THESISSIDDHARTH PASUMARTHY 10AR10040THESIS GUIDE PROF. HAIMANTI BANERJIPROJECT BRIEFTo design a state of the art Science Centre in the heart of the I.T hub of India, Hyderabad

Hyderabad is known as a heritage and cyber-city. But with ace scientific institutions like NGRI, CCMB, IICT and DRDO making its foothold strong, The Academy of Science will be a glue holding them

A science centre for Hyderabad has already been proposed but the contract has not been awarded to any architecture firm till now

The project will come under the purview of the Indian National Science Academy and will act as the southern zone headquarters for the same

The Hyderabad Academy of Sciences will be of international standards, attracting participation from myriad nations

THE NEEDIndia boasts of around 17 science centres spread across the northern peninsula which is more than any other country in Asia

But most of them were constructed more than 20 years ago and lack in basic amenities and innovative spaces

Major Science Centres are in Kolkata (east), Delhi (north) and Mumbai (west) but the Southern India still lacks a major Science city

The Hyderabad Academy of Sciences will act as the hub of academic research in southern India in collaboration with organizations discussed earlier and will complete the quadrilateral

OBJECTIVESTo portray the growth of Science and the major leaps India is taking in the fields like Astronomy, Space Exploration and Defense mechanisms

Document rich historical heritage of India and provide research facilities on the same

Exhibits on Indian Flora and Fauna with preservation research facilities.

A science centre of international standards with ultra-modern concepts

To attract more than 10 lakh visitors annually

Top of the line facilities for Research and Development in Space, Nuclear, Information Technology, Robotics and Biotechnology

It would comprise of a multitude of attractions and would set a benchmark for the cluster of Sciences cities functioning in other cities

CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

Designed by Renzo Piano it consists of two buildings, each approximately 27.43 m high

Inaugurated on 27 September 2008, the structure is worthy of superlatives:

Not only was this natural history museum singled out according to the criteria of the U.S. green building council on October 7, 2008 as the most sustainable building of its kind, it is also a multi-faceted work of art that evokes the history and architecture of San Francisco. for the building structure and shell, architect Renzo Piano used his knowledge of bionics, meaning the physical construction principles were derived from biology.

AERIAL VIEW

Situated in the plush Golden Gate park ,which is the 4th largest park in the world, it mingles with the nature

It derives its principles from bio mimicry mimicking the seven hills of San Francisco

The whole structure is transparent and the roof looks as if floating inviting everyone beneath it
