Our dedicated architecture team are a key component of the

successful delivery of our ‘concept to completion’ offer.

Our creativity brings our cl ients’ objectives to l i fe. By understanding

the impact of design within the rural environment, we special ise

in creating innovative, yet practical , options for a large array of

schemes. Throughout, we are focussed on adding value through

high quality design and place making.

This portfol io demonstrates the variety of projects we have

worked on.

HOW WE WORK

It al l starts with a conversation. We l isten to

your ideas and what you want to achieve and the

sketching begins.

MEETING

We research the site in detai l , looking at history

and landscape. The opportunities and constraints

emerge and we address these creatively.

RESEARCH

We look at similar projects and show you

approaches you may not have seen before.

The images are a primer for an intense design

conversation.

PRECEDENTS

Sketching is a great way to communicate. When

it comes to buildings, drawings speak more

clearly than words. In the hands of an architect,

a simple pencil and paper sti l l have the power to

communicate and drive a design forward.

SKETCHES

The site plan draws together the different strands

of the design. It is important that it is very clear

and attractive, as this is the core document others

wil l refer to.

S ITE PLANS

Physical models help to develop the design and

show you complex three-dimensional relationships.

Surprising and engaging; even relatively simple

models can be enormously effective and useful .

DARLEY ECO-HOUSE I

Working with the cl ient, we produced a design for a new house on an open,

sloping site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Incorporating a dynamic, landscape-based concept we used indigenous

dry-stone walls as a device to structure a single ‘r ibbon’ design. In this way

the project was designed deliberately to blend into the landscape, using local ,

natural materials ; a beautiful home anchored in nature.

This new-build house had an unusual posit ioning on a tight, sloping site in an

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was designed so as to minimise the

impact on views from the top of the slope. This was managed by incorporating a

tiered arrangement with access from the top and blending internal and external

spaces so as to bring the feel of the landscape into the house.

FORESTRY HUB

This new forestry operations hub for a major estate cl ient, includes visitor and

retai l faci l it ies as well as sawmil l , biomass and joinery faci l it ies. It was designed

in a way which incorporated innovative, t imber self-build structures so that the

estate could construct much of the building themselves using their own, local ly

grown materials .

STAMFORDHAM

This development of 18 new-build houses in an edge-of-vi l lage location in

rural Northumberland comprises of a mixture of terraced, detached and

almshouse-style properties. There has been particular thought given to the

sensit ive design of external spaces in order to create a relaxed and attractive

setting and to the placement of buildings in a manner which minimises the

impact on the local landscape.

QUAKER COTTAGE

This project composed of extensions and alterations to a l isted cottage in

the Cotswolds. Due to the sensit ive and historic nature of the building there

has been extensive negotiations with the local authority, with an emphasis on

hand-drawn presentation techniques in order to communicate the sensit ivity

of the design.
