If the fluid is below the "MIN" mark:

CAUTIONBrake fluid level decreases as the brakepads wear down.◆ Check the brake pads for wear, see

page 39 (CHECKING THE BRAKEPADS FOR WEAR) and brake disc.

If the pads and/or the disc do not need re-placing:◆ Contact an aprilia Authorised Dealer,

who will provide for topping up.

CAUTIONCheck the brake for proper operation.When the brake lever has exceedingtravel or if you notice a loss of braking,contact an aprilia Authorised Dealer .The braking system may need bleeding.

1

CAUTION This vehicle is fittedwith front and rear disc brakes. Each brak-ing system is operated by an independenthydraulic circuit.The following information applies to bothbraking systems.

Brake fluid level decreases gradually asthe brake pads wear down.

The brake reservoirs are positioned on thehandlebar, near the brake lever couplings.

Periodically check the brake fluid level inthe reservoirs, see on the side (Check) andthe wear of the pads, see page 39(CHECKING THE BRAKE PADS FORWEAR).

WARNINGDo not use the vehicle if the brakingsystem is leaking fluid.

CheckTo check the brake fluid level, proceed asfollows:

CAUTION Position the vehicleon firm and flat ground.

◆ Position the vehicle on the centre stand.◆ Rotate the handlebar, so that the fluid

contained in the brake reservoir is paral-lel to the "MIN" mark stamped on theglass gauge (1).

◆ Make sure that the fluid contained in thereservoir exceeds the "MIN" markstamped on the glass gauge (1).

MIN = minimum level.

Coolant

CAUTIONDo not ride when coolant is below theminimum level MIN.Periodically check the coolant level andevery time after long trips; have the coolantchanged by an aprilia Authorised Dealerevery 2 years.

WARNINGCoolant is toxic when ingested. Contactwith eyes or skin may cause irritation. In the event of contact with eyes or skin,rinse repeatedly with abundant waterand seek medical advice. In the event ofingestion, induce vomiting, rinse mouthand throat with abundant water andseek medical advice immediately.DO NOT RELEASE INTO THE ENVIRON-MENT.KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN.Take care not to spill coolant onto hotengine parts. It may ignite and produceinvisible flames.Wear latex gloves during servicing.Have the coolant changed at an apriliaAuthorised Dealer.Coolant mixture is a 50% solution of waterand antifreeze.This is the ideal solution for most operatingtemperatures and provides good corrosionprotection.This solution is also suited to the warm

season, as the mixture is less prone toevaporative loss and will reduce the needfor top-ups. In addition, less water evaporation meansfewer mineral salts depositing in the radia-tor, which helps preserve the efficiency ofthe cooling system.When temperature drops below zero de-grees centigrade, check the cooling sys-tem frequently and add more antifreeze(up to 60% maximum) to the solution.

CHECKING AND TOPPING UP

WARNINGWait for the engine to cool down beforechecking or topping up coolant level.◆ Stop the engine and wait until it has

cooled down.

CAUTION Position the vehicleon firm and flat ground.

◆ Remove the front cover, see page 42(REMOVING THE FRONT COVER).

◆ Make sure that the level of the fluid con-tained in the expansion tank (2) is includ-ed between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.MIN = minimum level.

MAX = maximum level

If not so: ◆ Loosen the filler plug (1) (by turning it an-

ticlockwise by two turns), without remov-ing it.

◆ Wait a few seconds in order to releaseany residual pressure.

◆ Unscrew and remove the plug (1).

WARNINGCoolant is toxic when ingested. Contactwith eyes or skin may cause irritation. Do not put your fingers or any other ob-ject into the filler opening in order to en-sure that there is coolant.

TYRES

This vehicle is equipped with tubelesstyres.

WARNINGPeriodically check the tyre inflationpressure at room temperature, seepage 55 (TECHNICAL DATA).Measuring pressure on hot tyres willlead to inaccurate measurement.It is especially important to measuretyre pressure before and after a longtrip.Overinflated tyres will not absorbbumps when riding on rough road sur-faces and resulting vibration is trans-ferred through the handlebar, giving aharsh ride and reducing tyre grip espe-cially during cornering.

Conversely, underinflation will put morestress on the sidewalls (1) and the tyremay slip on the rim or even come off therim, leading to loss of control. The tyres could come off the rims underharsh braking. Finally, the vehicle could skid duringcornering. Inspect tyre surface condition andcheck for wear, as worn tyres lead topoor road holding and handling.
