The APR Rifle is a professional sniper system designed to be used by military and law enforcement personal. It is not a modified hunting or sporting rifle commonly used by hunters or sportsmen. The APR will never been seen hunting pigs, deer or at the Olympics unless of course… it is in the hands of a police marksman in an overwatch position.

The APR comes as a weapon family to meet different requirements. The four members of the family are the Standard APR308 in 7.62 mm x 51 NATO, APR338 in .338 Lapua for long distance shooting, APR308P Police with a shor-ter 500 mm barrel and the APR308S with an integrated suppressed barrel.

The weapon is bolt action for the simple reason that many of our customers asked for it. Much state of the art match grade ammunition simply does not chamber well in a semi-automatic rifle. This fact will of course limit the choice of ammunition available to an operator. A bolt action rifle is much more accurate than a semi-automatic rifle and will perform to the accuracy the ammunition manufacturer claims.

For military long distance applications, the bolt action is fast enough for a second shot as first impact must be detected and corrections determined. For police work the distances are shorter but the need for accuracy is much more demanding as a second shot would normally be too late.

Since its introduction in 1954 the .308 or 7.62 × 51 mm NATO has become the most common sniper rifle cartridge worldwide. This is thanks to the wide variety of ammunition and multitude of ammunition manufacturers availa-ble. The cartridge is literally universal and is actually gaining popularity in many former Eastern Bloc countries. The cartridge provides enough precision for consistent head shots at 400 meters and torso hits at 800 meters.

B&T chose the .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge (8.6 x 70 mm) for its military long-range sniper rifles. The Afghanistan War and Iraq War made it a combat-proven round with a substantial choice of ammunition available. It can penetrate better-than-standard military body armour at ranges up to 1000 meters and has a maximum effective range of about 1500 meters. Good factory loads, multiple projectile weights and factory special application ammunition are all available.

The APR system includes an interface for SIMRAD night vision devices. As option, a rail handguard with three NATO accessory rails is available which accepts virtually every NVD on the market.
