• Applicants need to have relevant degree
• Need to have police check, provide written references and personal statement

or secondary courses, by age group, subject, university or location
• 267 Primary courses• 1760 Secondary courses• NB – check with Irish Teaching

• Applicants can log into the system and track the process of their application throughout the year
Entry Requirements• Hold degree relevant to teaching
subject. Normally 2.2 or higher –see individual university requirements
• Grade C or above in Maths and English and also Science if applying for Primary
• Fitness to teaching (questionnaire)
• Work experience – time spent in the classroom
PGCE InterviewAll short listed candidates will be invited
to an Interview or Selection DayMay include…• Written tests• Presentations• Group Discussions• Teaching of mini lessons• Subject specific practical exercises
(e.g. music audition, sport activity)• Visit to a local school
Finance• PGCE fees for Sept ’11 - £3370 (to be
paid directly to uni)• Students can apply for means tested
grant worth approx. £2700 • Also entitled to bursary - £4000 to

UK Trained Teachers Returning to Ireland
• Secondary teachers complete exam on history of education in Ireland
• Primary teachers complete an Irish exam
NB – ensure PGCE is recognised by Irish Teaching Council before applying!
