Based on experience with Alberta implemented HIPPS projects, our customers have told us what is important to them: safe AND cost effective solutions. In our experience the main reasons for using HIPPS are safety, environmental, and economic. Safety to ensure that you can confidently operate close to design limits. Environmental to avoid unnecessary flaring and thereby limiting air emissions. And economic to reduce costs, because it will be more cost affective to use a HIPPS than to install full flaring capacity and full schedule piping and equipment. The heart of the Safety Integrated System (SIS) is the HIMA SIL3 rated PLC, consisting of logic solver and I/O system, integrated with SIL rated sensors and Safety proven final elements. Full protection with no overspending. Based on a flexible hardware platform, HIMA safety PLCs can be adapted to meet each companies integration requirement such as operating either as standalone technology or integrated into the plant DCS or PLC system. Above - Complete system installed for use on an emulsion inlet line to a separator. You’ll see a main inlet emulsion line and a bypass inlet emulsion line used when the main valves are to be full stroke tested. Right - All signals feed back into fault tolerant HIMatrix F35 logic solvers. MICA’s turn-key system consists of HIPPS SIL verification report, logic solver, pressure transmitters in 2oo3, and safety valves in 1oo2. All calculated for use in a SIL 3 application required by API 521 and ASME Sec VIII Paragraph UG 140. Our deliverables can include the following: HAZOP of process package, including P&ID’s and functional description. Design for main and bypass lines. Safety requirements specification, data sheets, instruments, logic solver(s), final elements, and documentation Integration including control narrative, logic diagrams, panel design, wiring diagrams, HIMA HiMatrix system and HMI. Factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, site integration function test, commissioning, and start-up.
