WHITE WINES CONTINUED BOROVITZA WINERY, BELLA RADA RKATSITELI, BULGARIA 2011 13% (org) Wines from Georgia have created quite a stir in recent months. One of its most famous grapes is made here into something rounded and smoky, rich but not flashy, and it’s really brilliant with food.

GERARD BOULAY SAUVIGNON BLANC, SANCERRE 2012 12.5% Quite simply the dog’s bollocks of the Sancerre world. Divine.

MOUNT HORROCKS, WATERVALE RIESLING, CLARE VALLEY 2013 12.5% Every list should have a good riesling and this is one of the best we found. Made by one of South Australia’s winemaking queens, Stephanie Toole, it has fragrant fruit and lovely texture held in a taut and elegant shape.

MUHR-NIEPOORT, P************N GRUNER VELTLINER/CHARDONNAY/RIESLING, CARNUNTUM 2011 12% This is not an Austrian swear word: the unusual blend of grapes in this beguiling wine failed to get past the Prellenkirchen appellation police. Who cares? Crisp green fruit, silky spices and an impressive exotic length.

THIERRY GERMAIN, DOMAINE ROCHES NEUVES, L’INSOLITE CHENIN, LOIRE 2013 13% (bio) Extraordinary balance and clarity from this star of the Loire; we love his wines so much we have two on the list. This is subtly aromatic with piercing but pleasing acidity and is astonishingly good value.

A youthful and vibrant Australian without the brashness you might expect at this price. A bit of oak gives some structure but doesn’t mask its berry fruit. Bonzer.

HEINRICH ZWEIGELT, BURGUNLAND 2012 (bio) 13% We’re rather in love with Austrian wines and think they’re often overlooked. Zweigelt’s clove and liquorice twang gives a pleasing mountain freshness to the soft and rich red fruit.
