■ Knowledge regarding the appropriate use ofantibacterials ‘is far from ideal’ in UK general dentalpractitioners (GDPs), reports a team of researchersfrom England and Scotland.* They sent a questionnaireto a sample of GDPs from 10 Health Authorities inEngland and 4 Health Boards in Scotland and found alack of knowledge of antibacterial prescribing inclinical practice among respondents. GDPs need clearadvice on which antibacterial agent to prescribe and atwhat dosage, when to prescribe antibacterials and forhow long, say the researchers.
