OUR MissiOn

Anoka-Ramsey is an open door, comprehensive higher education institution committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Anoka-Ramsey is committed to responding to the educational needs of its changing communities and to providing opportunities for enhancing knowledge, skills, and values in a supportive learning environment.

Anoka-Ramsey had a huge impact on who I was as a student and

who I am as a leader. The students and instructors at Anoka-Ramsey are special. They are dedicated,

passionate, multi-tasking, organized, intelligent people from every walk

of life. The blend of life and college experience with professionalism

created one of the best learning atmospheres I have experienced. The

relationships I formed at the college will last a lifetime.

Anoka-Ramsey: The Place

Anoka-Ramsey Community College cares about the state and the communities it serves.

As a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system, Anoka-Ramsey Community College was established in 1965 in a wing of Centennial High School in Circle Pines with 600 students.

Today, Anoka-Ramsey has two main campuses: the Cambridge Campus with approximately 115 acres along west Highway 95 on the Rum River, and the Coon Rapids Campus with approximately 103 acres on the Mississippi River, 20 miles north of downtown Minneapolis. Along with providing education at the two main campuses, Anoka-Ramsey brings courses and programs into the community at 13 off-campus locations. The college grew to serve more than 12,000 students in the 2009-2010 academic year.

Since recordkeeping began in 1968, approximately 186,285 people have taken courses at the college, from short-term training/certificate programs, two-year, four-year and graduate degree programs, to KID U/College for Kids, Professional Training and Alumni Association programs.

Created with input from community leaders, college personnel and students, Anoka-Ramsey Community College is guided by a strategic plan titled Designs for Distinction that contains four main objectives. Here are those objectives and examples of how the college faculty and staff are meeting them.

DEsiGns FOR DisTinCTiOn

Objective i: Excel at teaching, learning and learner development to improve learner success.

All academic offerings at Anoka-Ramsey are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the accrediting body for many public and private colleges and universities in several states across the country.

To advance student development, Anoka-Ramsey hosts award-winning faculty. Last year alone, faculty wonsuchprestigiousawardsastheMcKnightArtistFellowship,DistinguishedChapterAdvisorAward(Phi Theta Kappa) and Educator of the Year, just to name a few. Art and music faculty displayed and performed at venues through the state including the Walker Art Center, the Northrup King Building and the Minnesota Opera.

Students, following the example of their instructors, reach new heights as well. At the Cambridge Campus alone, Phi Theta Kappa (honor society) students earned a host of recognitions at the societys regional convention in the spring.

This income is infused into the local economy. According to a Wilder Research report, the colleges Coon Rapids Campus alone collectively adds an estimated $106,204,084 per year to the local economy.

Anoka-Ramsey hosts two foundations. Both are legally structured 501(c)(3)non-profit, tax-exempt organizations that are governed by a volunteer, elected board of directors, dedicated to advancing the college mission of access and opportunity, with the primary focus of raising community awareness and soliciting and accepting donations.

CAMBRIDGE CAMPUS FOUnDATiOn

TheCambridgeCampusFoundationencourages,acceptsandadministersgiftsandgrantsthatprovidefinancial support for students and projects that would not be possible through regular college funding. The foundations main goal is to make college affordable and accessible through scholarships to area residents who want to pursue post-secondary education.

TheCoonRapidsFoundationpromotesanawarenessandunderstandingofthecollegeanditseducational,culturalanddevelopmentalvaluetothesurroundingcommunities.Foundationvolunteersacceptdonationsforscholarships and other enrichment projects not provided through regular college funding.

Since its inception in 1987, the foundation has raised more than $3,866,541 in financial support. This support has provided more than 2,346 scholarships ($1,642,000 to area residents. The foundation purchased more than $516,000 in equipment, and $130,200 was awarded to faculty members for projects designed to enhance the classroom experience for students.

Both campus foundations depend on fundraising events for approximately 35% of their annual income, spent entirely on scholarships such as the Presidential Scholarship, the Dean Scholarship, Academic scholarships, the Non-Traditional Student Scholarship, and Veterans Scholarship.

Cambridge Campus Foundation Fundraisers

Scholardazzle: An evening event with a social hour, dinner, and silent and live auctions.

Golf Tournament: 18 holes, BBQ dinner, chances at raffle prizes and a chance at a hole-in-one car.

Coon Rapids Campus Foundation Fundraisers

Golf Tournament: 18-hole shotgun start; includes cart and buffet; sponsor holes; donate products for gift bags, raffle prizes and door prizes.

Prairie Home Delights: A ticketed tasting event with 15-20 area restaurants, auctions and music.

Recognition Events

The Legacy Dinner: The Legacy Dinner, held bi-annually in November, honors all donors of the foundation. Donors with cumulative giving of $50,000 or more receive the Legacy Award, created by Bob Toensing, renowned Anoka-Ramsey glassblowing instructor.

Scholarship Luncheons: Both campus foundations host springtime scholarship luncheons. Donors who have established named scholarship funds are invited to the luncheon as well as the scholarship recipients and special guests.

Anoka-Ramsey: The PremiumsFOR yOUR COMMUniTy

Anoka-Ramsey Community College has provided education to more than 36% of the combined populations of the top four counties served. These people are your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Research suggests that more than 70% of Anoka-Ramsey graduates remain in or return to the college service area, contributing to the economy and community. To date, Anoka-Ramsey graduates total more than 130,399 people, nearly 25% of the combined populations of the top four counties served.

Anoka-Ramsey is also a highly-regarded hub for cultural activities including visiting authors through the Minnesota Writer and the Two Rivers Reading series; theatre performances; art exhibits and sales; chorale, concert and jazz band performances; and more. In addition, civic and service-learning initiatives allow faculty and students to be active community volunteers. College clubs, intramural sports and collegiate athleticsincluding baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, fastpitch softballround out a full complement of offerings.

Employee Education & TrainingAnoka-Ramsey is educating the local, regional and state-wide workforce. Not counting the more than 60% students who attend Anoka-Ramsey for courses (not a degree) that transfer into a four-year degree, Anoka-Ramsey granted a total of 854 awards in the 2009-2010 academic year (778 associates degrees and 76 certificates) of which nearly 70% stay in the community as educated employees and business owners.

The Anoka-Ramsey Professional Training division processed more than 4,074 registrations for courses, providing 45,198 hours in training for community members to improve and enhance their careers or job-seeking prospects.

Anoka-Ramsey: The PromiseStudents, such as Chanelle Nigh, hold the promise of the future, and Anoka-Ramsey takes that promise and helps it become reality.

Without a local, affordable choice for a quality college education offered by Anoka-Ramsey Community College, it is very likely that Chanelle would not be a college graduate, or have the goal of one day owning her own business in the community.

Anoka-Ramsey is a wonderful stepping stone; the college offers a variety of courses to apply toward a degree or to transfer. The College resources helped me realize that my goals can be a realitythat they are achievable!
