Noise

The major accomplishments of the 1978-1979 committee year were the presentation of the Silver Medal in Noise to Harvey Hub- bard, the joint sponsorship of several technical sessions with the Acoustical Society of Japan at the Hawaii meeting, and the papers presented at ASA*50. The Noise Committee currently has subcom- mittees planning for the future programs of the Society, a subcommi- ttee reviewing the qualifications of members relative to election to Fellow, and a subcommittee preparing nominations for the second Silver Medal in Noise.

At the Hawaii meeting, the Committee sponsored ten sessions on noise. The four invited sessions were: Sound Power, Structure- borne Sound Propagation in Buildings (cosponsored with A. A. and S & V), Impact of Noise on External Living Conditions, and Bail System Noise and Vibration Control.

For ASA*50 the Committee sponsored seven sessions on noise. Invited sessions included Impulse Noise Measurement, Generation, Perception, and Control; Effects of Race and Sex on Hearing Levels for Industrial and Non-industrial Environments, Power Plant Noise, Measurement and Prediction of Daily Noise Exposure of Individuals.

Future sessions are planned on the following topics:
