What is Rotary? ROTARY is an organization of business, professional and government leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and promote goodwill and peace in the world – encapsulated in its motto of Service before Self.

The first Rotary club was founded in Chicago, Illinois, USA on 23rd February 1905, and currently comprises approximately 1.2 million service minded men and women belonging to more than 34,000 Rotary Clubs in virtually every nation in the world.

Rotarians meet weekly for fellowships and interesting, informative programs dealing with topics of local and global importance. Membership reflects a wide cross-section of community representation. Rotarians plan and carry out a wide variety of humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs that touch people’s lives in their local communities and our world community. Rotary is widely regarded as the world’s largest private provider of international educational scholarships.

At the heart of Rotary is the Rotary Foundation, which each year provides approximately US $ 90 million for international scholarship, cultural exchanges and humanitarian projects, both large and small that improve the quality of life for millions of people. One of the most spectacular achievements of Rotary is its focus on Polio Eradication around the world, working with national and international health organizations. More than one billion children in developing nations have been immunized against polio through Rotary’s Polio Plus grants – the success of India’s fight against polio is largely due to the efforts of Rotary and government working together.

Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City

An affiliate of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City was chartered in 1989. One of the most active Rotary Clubs in the Delhi/NCR area, its membership represents a wide cross-section of society and includes prominent citizens, ambassadors, diplomats, industrialists, private businessmen, educationists, professionals from legal, healthcare, hospitality, social & public service, information technology etc.

The primary mission of the Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City is

“To promote children’s health & education”

RC Delhi Garden City has been serving the community for the last 23 years by managing a number of successful community service projects, as well as contributing to Rotary International’s key initiatives – Polio Eradication and Blood Donation. Our Club has the organizational and process maturity to not only sustain its community service projects (some of which have been in operation for the last 14 years), but also initiate new pilot projects from time to time.

Outgoing PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Rotarians, R’Annes and Friends,

As another year at Rotary draws to a close I would like to thank the entire membership of the Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City for their relentless efforts and support towards our mission of promoting Children’s Health and Education.

In addition to our regular support for our community service projects, several new initiatives were launched during the year - the first comprehensive health camp at the Balgram Orphanage, funding for a full-time teacher, setting up a new computer lab at the Gairatpur-Baas Panchayat School in Gurgaon, and new medical and arts/crafts rooms at the 800-student MCD Girls School in Sriniwaspuri. We launched a unique program - Make-A-Child-Successful – that saw 16 members stepping up to pledge financial support for a child of their choice at one of our community service projects till he/she graduates from Class 12. And finally, our Club’s new website – www.rcdgc.org – launched in July 2012 made it to the topmost searched website amongst all the 130 clubs in District 3010.

We made significant strides in growing our membership this year – a total of 12 members and 9 honorary members were inducted in 2012-13. It was particularly gratifying that our members volunteered their time and assisted in fund-raising for our community service projects. Additionally, attendance at our regular Club meetings grew by 19% compared to an identical period the prior year.

I would like to thank the Board of Directors, our Committee & Project Chairpersons and our donors for their support and guidance throughout the year. I would also like to wish incoming President Anita Bhardwaj and her team the very best for yet another great year ahead for the Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City.

Thanks for all your support. Sanjiv Narayan President 2012-13

Once again, thank you all for enlisting in this mission to spread smiles all around Warm Regards, Deepika Venkatesh Babu Secretary 2012-13

Members Directory Our biennial Members Directory was printed in a new concise and clear format. Club Website In July, 2012, the Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City launched its new website – www.rcdgc.org. The website is updated once a week with information about our meeting calendar, special events and community service projects. It also contains a wealth of information on our Club’s history – including information on past Charity Balls, International Goodwill Golf Invitationals, matching grants etc. We also automated our Club mailing lists that allow our members to be contacted in a reliable and timely manner. Given that the website is regularly visited by our members and other visitors, it has been ranked by search engines as one of the top websites amongst all 130 clubs in District 3010. Charitable Trust The Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City Charitable Trust supports the community service projects of our Club. We are very grateful to the trustees for their valuable advice and support in the execution of our service projects throughout the year. In 2012-13, the Trustees conducted a comprehensive review of the functioning of the Charitable Trust and effected changes that were required to put the Trust on a stronger administrative footing for the future.

. .COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City has a number of community service projects that it has been involved with - some since as far back as 1999. In the 2012-13 Rotary Year, we not only sustained these ongoing projects, but we were able to launch a number of new initiatives. A brief description of these projects and initiatives can be found below.

Balgram Orphanage, Village Rai, Sonepat Our Club adopted the Balgram Orphanage in 1999 and has focused on three areas at the orphanage – Health, Education and Infrastructure. Our Club has been funding dietary and nutritional supplements by providing a daily supply of milk and fruits for all 120 children at Balgram. We have also been providing support for additional tuitions in Maths, English, Science & Computers to these school going children.
