ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT 2009-2010PART A

A review of ones own will open up pages of the past records which will certainly makes one to

better the performance of the coming years. Last years achievements are the bench marks for the future

plan. The institute, V H N Senthikumara Nadar College, V i r u d h u n a g a r has extended its growth

in all zones right from the purchase of books, journals, equipments to the infrastructure like

buildings and labs. The growth is gradual and it is arranged according to the needs of the students.

The Management spends every coin with the utility value and plans for the students usage. The UGC

fund is also spent on reasonable manner and the utilization is also felt in all its layers. When the

infrastructure is given to the needy mass, they will definitely show their balanced growth.

Encouragements were shown towards all people in the form of support to them for the betterment.

Participation of teachers in both the academic and administrative fields was encouraged.

Publications of their findings were published in the college Journal Sadhana.

Encouragement was given to them to take part in Seminars and Workshops. Steps were also

taken to conduct Seminars and Workshops. Support from TNSC/ST was of immense help for

the conduct of such programs.

Books and Journals were purchased for the scholars who are involved in serious research.

ejournals were also downloaded for the researchers.

Training programs were conducted for the young teachers who have joined recently into

service for their academic enrichment and development of their teaching skills.

Students were encouraged to take part in both University and District events.

Steps were taken to reach the faculty and students through the NAAC IQAC. Awareness

Programs are on for those who are in need of the programs which can be got from UGC,

CSIR and other Governmental Agencies.

Function of CELLS inside the campus is going on to take care of the lapses in various fields

of the college.

PART B

1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

In pursuit of the Vision and Mission of the institution, this year also we have enrolled

majority of the students from the surrounding rural areas.

Many extension activities were undertaken to fulfill the goals and objectives of the

institution.

The NSS unit of the college has initiated steps to adopt a village school at Vallikulam to

impart computer literacy to the students even at the primary and middle school levels.

The Management has come forward to provide necessary equipments and systems for the

above initiative.

The Women Empowerment Cell has launched many programmes exclusively for the girl

students. It has conducted a special seminar with the help of local doctors to highlight

the importance of hygiene, especially for the rural girl students.

The microbiology department has conducted a special drive for testing the haemoglobin

levels of the girl students.

Girl students with low level of hemoglobin were identified and advised for rectification.

The Personality Development Cell has taken special care to improve the skills of the rural

girl students, while attending interviews and other placement related activities.

To hone the personality skills, communicative ability and also to avoid fear of attending

interviews, not less than a dozen training sessions were conducted. Many girl students

evinced keen interest in all the programmes.

The differently abled students were specially taken care of. They were provided with

special vehicles for transportation, under Govt. schemes.

Physiotherapy training were given to the differently abled students under the supervision

of local physiotherapist.

The Placement Cell is functioning in full vigour for finding suitable jobs to our students.

As many as 380 students of the final year (both U.G and P.G) got placement offers from

many national and multinational companies.

The cell is providing intensive training to the students to improve their employability.

The entire activities of the Placement Cell are funded by the management and it is given

to the students absolutely at free of cost.

Many blood donation camps were conducted during this year. Last year alone our

students have donated more than 515 units to the needy patients.

Indeed, our institution is ranked number one in this life saving gesture and also received

trophy from the Indian Medical Association.

2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG):

B.Sc., Mathematics with C.A.,

A three year job oriented UG degree course in Mathematics with Computer Application

has been introduced in the Department of Mathematics to impart high-end knowledge in

Computer Application with Mathematics. Students will be getting their placements soon

after getting their degrees because this course is a combination of two disciplines

Mathematics and Computer Science, a theory and its application through latest technology.

The idea of launching a course like this would fulfil the thirst for knowledge of students

who hail from rural background.

M.Phil Business Administration

A one year Pre-research programme has been offered by the Department of Management

Studies with a view to provide ample opportunities for the students.

Career Oriented Add on Course on Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is the energy produced from natural resources such as sunlight, wind,

rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which are renewable (naturally replenished). All forms of

energy are expensive, but as time progresses, renewable energy generally gets cheaper.

India is blessed with abundant energy sources. The Department of Physics offers this

program to students with an idea of creating awareness as well as training to make use of

renewable energy sources. The programme is funded by the University Grants Commission,

New Delhi.

Certificate Course on Digital Photography and Photoshop

With the support of the Faculty of Physics, a Certificate Course on Digital

Photography and Photoshop is introduced to students at both Post Graduate and Under

Graduate levels. Students can do this certificate course along with their regular courses, so

that they can enrich their skills in photography. This skill based course is a career oriented

one.

Certificate Course on Communicative English for the public

Learning English becomes inevitable as the skill in the language is a pre-requisite for job

opportunities for the student community as they can easily communicate to others their

wishes and aspirations. With the fluency in the language, they can exchange their ideas

with their family members and successors to groom the habit of speaking in English and

they can reach any type of destination in the world and communicate with them.

5. Examination reforms implemented:

A question bank in the library for the use of students and staff is placed and this can be

utilized by them. Questions can be noted and worked out at home. This can not be borrowed as it

is meant for reference.

Periodic tests were conducted to assess the growth of learning standards among students.

Concerned departments are entrusted with the responsibility to conduct examinations on a

particular date. The marks with the attendance of the students were sent to the parents. This year

PG students also wrote the exam on the same date.
