The resource person was Dr. Lethi, from Holy Cross College, Trichy. The workshop was attended by 90 of our faculty members. The purpose of this workshop was to guide faculty in writing MCQ’s of higher order to enable to prepare their students for competitive exams. Initiated in the Academic year 2011-12 In process The Madurai Kamaraj University has granted affiliation for the B. Com with Professional Accounting from the year 2011-2012 with a sanctioned strength of 60. It has been offered from 2011 – 2012 The Madurai Kamaraj University has granted affiliation for the M. Sc Nanoscience (UGC Innovative Programme) and is offered from 2011-2012. The Madurai Kamaraj University has granted affiliation for PG Diploma in Psychotherapy & Counseling with a sanctioned strength of 40.

26 students were admitted in Diploma in Creative Fashion Designing in 2011-2012 10 students were admitted in Certificate in Fashion Designing in 2011-2012 Teachers were required to include in the work plan of atleast one course, details of activities used for ensuring Activity based Teaching / Interactive Class room teaching

A workshop on Item Writing was held on 10th September 2011. The resource person was Dr. Lethi, from Holy Cross College, Trichy. The workshop was attended by 90 of our faculty members. The purpose of this workshop was to guide faculty in writing MCQ’s of higher order to enable to prepare their students for competitive exams.

• E- Content Creation – at least one course from every department

One day Orientation Program on ‘E- Content Development was conducted on 22nd September 2011.

• Redesigning UG Curriculum as per the Integrated Curricular model (HUT) – using Backward design approach

One day workshop on Curricular Development was held on 26th March 2012. Dr. Francis Soundararaj, the former Principal of Madras Christian College, Chennai was the resource person. Preliminary discussions were held in the CPEC related to UG Integrated Curricular Model.

Research

• Inter – disciplinary Research at Thondaimanpatti to develop it as a model village.

As on outcome of Massive survey conducted in 5 villages nearly satellite campus velichanatham. It was found that Thondaimanpatti village would require our services for developmental activities. 13 departments of the college undertook research/ extension activity in their field of specialization for the benefit of villages.

• Extension – Special centralized Exhibition for school children for 3 days.

Exhibition EXPO 2011 for school children of 9th, 10th & 11th standards in and around Madurai city was conducted on 24th & 25th Nov. 2011. More than 2000 students participated from 13 schools. The departments of Mathematics, Physics, Economics and Social Sciences enthusiastically participated in explaining the basic concepts and organized ‘do and learn’ activity for school children.

� The Centre organized a junior faculty workshop from 7th to

10th June 2011. There were 64 participants out of which 23

were new recruits. The rest were junior faculty who were

deputed to attend the workshop as a re-orientation on teaching

and evaluation. All the sessions were handled by senior faculty

members from our college.

� It was organized for the first year UG students from 20th to

30th June 2011. An online English test was conducted for the

Freshers on the day of admission. Based on the scores 550

students attended the bridge course. Thirty teachers drawn

from all departments and two PG students were involved in

giving this coaching.

27 faculty drawn from various departments attended different

programmes like ORACLE higher education initiative for Tamil

Nadu, ICTACT BRIDGE 2011(focus on Skills for future and

innovation), . Net in Association with Microsoft Corporation,

Oracle 11g etc., (list enclosed in the annexure)

� An International Conference on Science, Society and

Sustainability with the theme ‘Many Species, One Planet for

Posterity’ was conducted from 11th to 13th Jan. 2012. With 300

participants at International, National and Local levels. 21

international participants, 94 from outside Tamil nadu and 185

local participants. 113 papers were received on the themes such

as Environment & Sustainability, Environment & Society and

Education & Sustainability, out of which 81 were presentations

and 15 were posters.

The papers selected by the respective chairpersons were

reviewed and they will be published as a special issue of the

Inhouse research journal ASPIRE September 2012.

� To refresh our curriculum relevant to the present context, we

wanted to learn how competence building can help in

furthering today’s trends and challenges in Higher Education.

Hence a National Conference was organized by our college on

30th Sep. & 1st Oct. 2011. Dr. Sivaram, Former Director of

CSIR, NCL Pune and the Bhatnagar Awardee, was the Chief

Guest for the Inaugural.

The resolutions of the conference were submitted to

Dr. Balagurusamy for consideration by the Planning

Commission for the XII plan. 15 papers were presented out of

which 5 papers were from external members and 10 papers

management. Unwanted sites are detached for the proper

- Structured network layout with L3 & L2 switches were installed to create VLANS to protect the college network from hackers

- Symantec Antivirus is set up for well maintenance of the computers in the campus preventing from virus issues

- Wifi is implemented in Guest house, Miller auditorium & in Multimedia Theatre

- E- filing of documents is introduced to minimize the paper work & avoid duplication

- Introduction OMR technologies for admission process to reduce the data entry.

� Fiber optic cables single mode cable is layed in all the corners

of the college to increase the speed of the internet

� New website is developed with alumnae portal Webmail is

� T5 Model - 250 and CFL (Compact Florescent Lamp) – 300 were

installed to replace old bulbs and tube lights and installation of

50 energy efficient fans in the library

� 34 Solar street lights were installed.

� We conducted one day orientation programme on ‘e-Content

Development’ on 22nd Sep. 2011. Number of participants 59

persons. Resource person – Dr. S. Senthilnathan, Department

of Educational Technology, Bharathidasan University.

� We conducted 5 days summer workshop on ‘e-Content

Development’ from 4th June to 8th June 2012. Number of

� LifeSize Team 220 (LifeSize Team 220) dual HD display and

camera support, digital input and output connections, an

embedded 4-way, Full HD multipoint control unit (MCU) and

dual LifeSize MicPods. Paired with the LifeSize® Phone™,

LifeSize® Camera 10x™ and LifeSize® Digital MicPod™.

Multi Station (Four)– 1, Twister-1 , Bycycle Ergometer-1,

Treadmil Electronic – 1, Treadmil Manual -1and Abdominal

Board -1 were installed in the gym.

An Art Education Center has been set up Coins of different eras

have been purchased labeled and displayed which will be used

in classroom teaching for courses like Archaeology and Art,

Indian History and Indian Culture. And this will enable the

Students to gain first- hand knowledge by seeing the artefacts.

April 2012 at Lady Doak College.

� International quality Standardization

The ISO Surveillance Audit was completed in February 2012 and the college has been

certified as ISO 9001:2008 institution.

� International Service -Learning Programme

� Six Korean students from Seoul Women’s University, South Korea, were at Lady

Doak College for their service-learning programme from 10th July to 5th August

2011.

� Two Japanese students from International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, from

10th July to 6th August and two Chinese students from Chung Chi College, Chinese

University, Hong Kong, from 14th July to 6th August, were at Lady Doak College for

their service-learning programme.

International Professors on campus

� Dr. Rani George (former facuty of Social Science Dept.) from Albany State

University, Georgia, USA, was on campus from 13th to 16th July 2011 to offered

seminars and lectures for students and faculty.

� Ms. Gita Ponnusamy (alumna of English), Lecturer of Bahrain Polytechnic, Bahrain,

was on campus in the month of July 2011 to undertake a survey with students from

Government schools who are doing English as Second language for her doctoral

studies in Education at the University of Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

� A team of 17 members under the leadership of Dr. Aditi Samarth from Richland

College, Dallas, USA, were on campus for the United Nations Millennium

Development Goals Exposure Programme from 16th to 19th July 2011.

� Faculty participation in International Programmes

� Dr. A. Mercy Pushpalatha, Principal & Secretary attended the 7th CUAC Triennial

Conference on Sustainability – A new context for Higher Education from 22nd to

26th May 2011 in the University of Sewanee, TN, USA and gave a presentation on

“Educational Leadership : Stewardship for Sustainability”

� Dr. Valliammal presented a paper on “Curriculum Development on Peace

Education in Higher Education : Initiatives of Lady Doak College, Madurai” at the

conference on Inter-religious Understanding and Peace Building in Asia at the

International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, from 21st to 23rd May 2011.

� The following members participated in the Asia Pacific Conference on Impacts of

Service-Learning at Lingnan University, Hong Kong from 7th to 11th June 2011.

– Dr. Beulah Rajkumar attended as SLAN Member College representative

and presented a Poster on “Integrating Head Heart and Hand ... Experiences

at Lady Doak College”.

– Dr. Manorama Dhanaseeli was a UBCHEA Sponsored Panelist and her

Panel discussion topic was on “Environment and Health”

– Mrs. Felcia Vasanthakumari presented a paper on “Voices through Vision”

• Dr. Synthia Mary Mathew, Associate Professor in Social Sciences, participated

in the Asian University Leader’s Programme at Hong Kong organized by the

UBCHEA from 6th to 10th Feb. 2012. The theme of this year’s programme is

“Counseling Issues and Concerns in Asian Higher Education”. She was also

one of the panelists on the topic “Parent Absent Households and Counseling

related Issues”.

� Blossoming of full personality of individual students

• The Student Union Inaugural - The Student Union Inaugural was held on 14th

Dean of Graudate School, Albany State University, Albany, USA, was the Chief

Guest to grace the function. The newly elected Union Office Bearers were

installed in their offices.

• Leadership Camp ‘11 - The Annual Leadership Camp was organized on 16th

July 2011 for about 75 student leaders. Mr. Clement from Southern Railways,

Trichy, was the resource person.

� Capacity building for the world of work

Tamil • Dr. Rani Jhansi Bai & Rev. G.U. Pope Endowment Lecture was

conducted on 21st Feb. 2012. Dr. G. Stephen from MS University,

Tirunelvi and Dr. Gloryia V. Dhas from MK University, Madurai were

the resource persons.

• One day seminar on Tamil Literature and Ecology was conducted on

23rd Feb. 2012. Dr. R. Mohan from MKU, Mr. K. Kalidhas from

Coimbatore and Kavingar Sakthijothi the founder of Sakthi Institution

of Social Economical and Education Madurai were the resource

persons.

English • Two day workshop for training teachers in Communication Skills in

English on 9th & 10th June 2011.

• Literary Day was conducted on 9th Sep. 2011. Dr. Lakshmi from

Gandhigram University was the Chief Guest. Nine other colleges

participated in the programme.

• Workshop on Soft Skills was conducted on 12th Sep. 2011

• Two plays were screened by the English Department on 15th & 16th

Feb. 2012. One on “Madame de” of the serious kind, with marriage,

love, infidelity and its consequences. The other on “The Proposal” a

very light hearted play. The students were at their best, emoting

feelings which at times was difficult to do so.

History • State Level Seminar on Tourism: Innovations and Prospects was

conducted on 6th Feb. 2012. Dr. R. Soundararajan from MKU, Dr. B.

George from MKU and Dr. T.A. Binoy from Kuvempu University,

Karnataka were the resource persons.

• Prof. Mrs. Anna Abraham Endowment Lecture Series I - 2012 was

conducted on 8th March 2012. Dr. Purnima Bhatt, Prof. of History,

Anthropology and Inter Disciplinary Studies in Hood College, Mary

Land, USA, was the resource person. Retired faculty of LDC, faculty

friends of Prof. Anna Abraham and faculty & students of History

Department participated.

Social Sciences • World Mental Health Day was celebrated on 10th Oct. 2011. Lecture on

Women and Mental Health was delivered. Dr. Selvamani Dhinakaran

and Dr. Pon Gunasekaran were the resource persons.

• Extension programme with Bethshan Special School (School for

Special Children) on unified sports was organized on 14th Oct. 2011.

Dr. Paul Devasagayam and Mr. Jayapaul were the resource persons.

• Talks on Inner Healing and Being Successful in Life were held on 19th

and 26th Nov. 2011 respectively.

• Extension programme for the children of Christian Mission Child

Development Centre (CMCDC) was organized on 29th Nov. 2011. 90

children of CNCDC participated.

Commerce • Faculty Training in Emerging Trends in Cost Management in the

Global Scenario was conducted on 13th Feb. 2012. Dr. V. Alagappan

from MKU, Dr. I. Ashok the Chairman of Madurai Chapter of Cost

Accountants, Dr. Mayil Murugan from Madura College,

Mr. S. Kumara Rajan from Hitech Arai and Mr. S. Jeyaraj the Secretary

of Madurai Chapter of Cost Accountants were the resource persons.

• Workshop on AJAX was conducted from 6th to 10th Feb. 2012. Mr.

Muthukumar the Managing director of Yuvasakthi Computer Centre

was the resource person.

• An Awareness Program on Road Safety was conducted from 20th to

27th Feb. 2012. Mr. Narasima Mani was the resource person.

Physics • Faculty training Programme on the Structural Aspects of

Bioinformatics – Phase II on 9th April 2012 and a faculty training in the

use of publishing research grade software LaTex.

• Lab Experiments for XII students from LPNI School were

demonstrated on 20th Nov. 2011.

• 150 students participated in the Observation of Total Lunar Eclipse on

10th Dec. 2011 for all LDC students

• ICPM PHYXPLOSION ’12 – At the Cross Roads…… (Sustainable

Energy for all) was conducted on 27th Jan. 2012. 115 students from 10

colleges participated. Prof. K.M. Ponnathal the Joint Director of

Collegiate Education, Madurai Region was the resource person.

• One day workshop on Exciting Astronomy was conducted in

collaboration with Indian Association of Physics Teachers on 28th Jan.

2012. 100 students and faculty participated. Prof. K. Subramanian the

Interim President of IAPCT RC-13, Tamilnadu & Pondicherry, Mr.

Naveen Nanjundappa the Vice President of Astronomical Society,

Bangalore and Ms. S. Mohana the State Vice-President of Tamil Nadu

Science Forum were the resource persons.

• SKY Watch was held on 20th Feb. 2012. Star Gazing was arranged in

Satellite Campus and around 90 students participated. Planets,

Jupiter, Venus and Mars were observed by UG & PG Physics students.

to promote Science Education. Dr. C. Vijayan of Physics Dept from

IIT, Madras, Dr. Usha from MKU and Dr. Sakuntala Samuelson,

Principal of Ramaiah College, Bangalore were the resource persons. 88

students of the Chemistry Department, 40 students from other Science

Departments of Lady Doak College and 40 students from outside

colleges and participated.

• A Talk about Green Walk was given by Mr. Rakesh Kumar Jagenial

IFS, DSO, Govt. of Tamil Nadu on 19th Dec. 2011.

• Green Walk was organized in the forest near Sathiyar Dam on 21st

Dec. 2011 in order to commemorate the Year of Forest and it was led

by Forest Rangers

• An Awareness Programme on Biosafety and Bioethics was held on

18th Feb. 2012. Dr. Palanivelu from MKU, Dr. Revathi Janakiram from

Chennai, Dr. Vasanthi from Bannari Amman Institute of Technology,

Sathyamangalam and Dr. Roderic Owen from Mary Baldwin College,

Virginia USA were the resource persons.

• Faculty Training on Bioinformatics Tool was conducted on 6th & 7th

Feb. 2012. Dr. A. Mahalakshmi from MKU was the resource person.

Zoology • State level workshop on Good Laboratory Practices partly sponsored

by TNSCST was conducted on 14th Oct. 2011. Dr. Abraham Stanley

and Dr. Prabhakar Y. Bhotie from Syngene International Ltd.,

Bangalore and Dr. K.S. Rao from Rao Toxicology Foundation,

Bangalore were the resource persons. 66 participants from inside and

outside the college participated

• Regional Seminar cum Inter Collegiate Programme on Wild Life Week

Celebrations was conducted on 4th Oct. 2011.

• Prof. Whitin Endowment Lecture Series was conducted on 24th Feb.

2012 on Global Threat of Communicable and non communicable

diseases with special reference to women’s health. Eminent resource

persons were invited.

• A National Level Workshop on ‘Biological Data mining in Clinical

MAERSK Line, Tuticorin were the resource persons.

� Inculcating social responsibility & commitment to promote equality & justice

Apart from regular community development work on Saturdays 8 day rural

camps were organized to 254 NSS students from 2nd to 8th Jan. 2012 in the villages -

Kadhakinaru, Aallathur and Chinna Patti and 153 Rangering students from 5th to 6th

Jan. 2012 in the village of Thirumalaikeni.

� World Food Day Celebration – On the 9th of February 2012, the student council

organized the food day. Food packets and clothes were collected from the students,

teachers and staff and they were distributed in a village called Elamanur.

� Hostel Day - ZENITH ’12 - Hostel Day Celebrations was held on 25th Feb. ‘12 at the GJ

Auditorium. Dr. Selvamani Thinakaran, the Psychiatrist, addressed the students and

parents. 400 Parents were entertained with a cultural programme by the resident

students.

� Handloom Mark Awareness Programme - To create awareness on handlooms, the

handloom mark awareness programme was held on 12th December 2011 by the

Textiles committee, Govt of India at our college. The session was on imparting

knowledge on the advantages of using handloom. Elocution competition was

conducted to enhance the knowledge and the winners were honoured with prizes.

Thiru U. Sagayam gave an inspiring speech on this topic which added to the

39 innovative courses were designed in the curriculum by the various departments

on the basis of alumnae feedback, expert’s opinion, curriculum from other

university, student feedback, relevance to local needs, and entry level of students.

An inter – disciplinary course “Coaching for Entry into Civil Services – preliminary

exam” by the departments of History, Economics, Physics and Chemistry is offered

from June 12.

The Extension Programme of the college includes National Service Scheme (NSS),

On-going projects

Tailoring Institute, College Stores, CRIB (Caring Residence for Infants and

Alumnae Meeting – Bengaluru Chapter

An Alumnae Meet was conducted at Bengaluru on 27th August 2011 at the

United Mission Junior Degree College, Bengaluru. 20 staff members from the college

attended the meet. At Bengaluru 55 alumnae of different age groups ranging from 77

years to 20 years attended with their respective families.

Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association:

On the day of admission of I UG / I PG one day orientation programme was

organized during which the college administrative officers highlighted the various

programmes and activities of the college. All departments have the practice of

conducting Parent – Teachers meeting where parents are given opportunity to clarify

the doubts regarding the academic programme, study habits of students, students

achievements, evaluation pattern & prizes awarded. It was a time of very good

interaction between the teachers and parents.

29. Health Services:

• The College has a clinic on campus to take care of students’ health throughout

the year.

• The College Doctor is assisted by one full-time nursing assistant and two other

nursing assistants

• Annual medical checkup is regularly conducted for all students and the faculty

advisers supervise the follow up for those students having medical problems.

30. Performance in Sports Activities for the year 2011 – 2012:

Sports Day

Our 64th Annual Sports Day was held on Saturday, 11th February 2012. 698 students

participated in the Inter-Major March past competition led by the College Band. Mr.

Asra Garg, the Superintendent of Police in Madurai District was the chief guest. Dr.

James Helm from Oberlin, Ohio, the Director of US Friends of Lady Doak College,

and his wife Mrs. Helm gave away the prizes.

• College retains Aggregate Team Championship for Team Games (Champions of

Champion) for the last 20 years except 2003-2004, by winning in Athletics,

Basketball, Kho-Kho, Ballbadminton, Hockey, Handball, Table Tennis, Weight

Lifting, and Runners in Volleyball, Football, Swimming, Kabbadi.

• College retains University Blues Championship from the year of its inception

except 2003 – 2004, for contributing the maximum number of 57 players to

represent Madurai Kamaraj University in the Inter University Tournaments and

Sports.

• College won the MKU Athletic Championship for the last seven consecutive years.

The students have got a total of 73 points in the 46th Madurai Kamaraj University

Inter- Collegiate Athletic Meet for Women which was conducted at MGR Stadium,

Madurai from 21st to 23rd Oct 2011.

New Meet Records

o B. Suganya of II B.Sc., Mathematics won M.K.U Individual Athletic Championship

with 16 points. She bettered her M.K.U Triple Jump 2010 record. Old Record -

10.80mts New Meet Record _- 11.12mts.

o M. Rajeswari of I B.Com. and S. Suganya of I B.A Tamil bettered M.K.U 1500mts

and 5000mts record 4 x 100 mts relay team bettered the M.K.U 4 x 100 mts relay

record and made a New Meet Record in M.K.U 4 x 100 mts relay (Old Record -

52.71Secs New Meet Record - 51.71Secs)

o College conducted M.K.U. Inter Collegiate Ballbadminton Tournament from 12th to

14th Dec 2011 at our college ground. Dr. Sam C Bose, Chairman of Lady Doak

College delivered the chief guest address and distributed the prizes.

Development Goals Exposure Programme from 16th to 19th July 2011.

• Rev. Canon James G. Callaway, D.D. & Dr. Linda Bright Lankewicz, the General

Secretary & Chairperson of CUAC, New York visited our college with Dr. Spurgeon,

the Secretary of the India Chapter CUAC (the Chaplain of MCC) on 10th & 11th of

Nov. 2011 to learn more about Lady Doak College for initiating a network with

CUAC Member Colleges.

• Dr. Ishio, the Director of the Service Learning Centre of International Christian

University, Tokyo, Japan visited our college on 25th & 26th of Nov. 2011 in order to

strengthen the Service-Learning Programme between the two institutions

Ministries with Dr. James Vijayakumar visited our college on 8th Dec. 2011. They

had a campus tour and they were entertained by our Cultural Show.

- A programme on Science & Technology for Women Empowerment was

broadcasted through All India Radio, Madurai, on 23rd July 2011, in collaboration

with Vigyan Prasar, Dept of Science and Technology, GoI, All India Radio, and

Tamil Nadu Science Forum, Madurai District.

• Gender Sensitization Programme to School Children was conducted on 5th Jan. & 7th

• Guest Lectures on Women Factor in the step wells of Gujarat was conducted on 8th

Dec., Women and Health on 3rd and 6th Jan. 2012 and How to overcome exam fear,

anxiety and tension on 23rd Jan. 2012.

• The Directors of Centre of Women’s Studies of Madurai Region met on 31st Jan. 2012

and discussed about the strengthening the network and organizing joint

programmes among the colleges

• International Women's Day was Celebrated by conducting two special lectures on 8th

March 2012. Dr. Purnima Bhatt, Professor of Anthropology, History and

Interdisciplinary Studies of Hood College, Frederick, USA was the resource person

for the morning session. 950 of II UG of both Aided and SF students participated.

• A special lecture on "Feminism and Gender Perspectives" was given by Ms. Kamla

Bhasin, A Social Activist from New Delhi for the afternoon session. 90 students of

PG from various departments participated.

� Research and Development Cell

• Dialogue with the Grassroots – Strategy that works was conducted on 14th Dec. 11.

Ms. R. Sankaranarayanan, Asst. General Manager, NABARD, Madurai was the

resource person and 70 students participated.

• Dr. C. D. Lethi, Assistant Professor in Zoology of Holy Cross College gave the insight

training in preparation for CSIR and UGC Net Exams on 23rd Jan. 2012 .

• 3-stage Indian Nuclear Power Programme was conducted on 2nd Feb. 2012 which

was led by Dr. J. Daniel CHellappa the Senior Scientist of DAE.

� Christian Studies Centre

Dept. participated in the XXV General Committee Meeting of the SCM at Kohima,

Nagaland from 1st to 4th June 2011 as representing faculty nominee and student

nominee respectively.

• Christmas Carol Service: December 10th 2011, was an evening of carols, readings and

tableau depicting the birth of Jesus Christ. Dr. Prabhu Singh from Chennai shared

the word of God on the theme “His Name…. The Prince of Peace”. The Carol

Service was followed by a dinner for the entire LDC Community with their families.

• New Year Students’ Retreat was conducted on 7th Jan. 2012 for all Christian

Students. Dr. Laura Delano who is working in the Dept. of English from

Bharathidasan University was the Guest Speaker.

• On all Sundays, a student group visits Government Hospital to pray for the patients

and another group takes Sunday School near Bibikulam.

• The SCM put up a Fundraising stall at the Annual IMS sales at Noyes Matriculation

Hr. Sec. School on 13th November 2011 and raised an amount of Rs.11,650/- through

the sale of raffle tickets.

� International Study Centre

• Ms. Jazmin Guerrero, from Oberlin Shansi is the new Director for the International

Study Center (ISC) for the academic year 2011 – 2013. She is conducting a semester

long programme on “Learning Japanese Language. The ISC’s Christmas Celebration

was held on 20th Dec. 2011. Latin American Carnvial 2012 was celebrated from 23rd

Feb. to 2nd March 2012

� Human Rights Education Unit

• A Review Committee Meeting was held on 20th Aug. 2011, since this is the 10th year

after the Introduction of Human Rights Education at LDC. Rev. Dr. Arul Raj and

Mrs. Cynthia Tiphagne from People’s Watch, the former professors who taught HRE,

Dr. Brinda Newman, Mrs. Danritta William and Mrs. Sucila Subramanian were

present in the meeting. The Feedback analysis of the Alumnae who had done HRE

and that of the outgoing batch were presented by HR Unit Convenors. The changes

to be incorporated for the HRE in the next phase (next 10 years) were discussed.

• Two-day faculty training on ‘Teaching Human Rights’ was conducted on 7th & 8th

Feb. 2012. Mr. Henri Tiphagne the Executive Director of People’s Watch and Adv. T.

Lajapathy Roy from Madurai High Court were the resource persons.

• As part of the Human Rights Day Celebrations, Martin Macwan Endowment Lecture

was conducted on 16th Dec. 2011. Justice V. Ramasubramanian from Madras High

Court of Madurai Bench was the resource person.

• Seminar on Human Rights organized by SOCO Trust was held on 8th Jan. 2012

� Centre for Human Resources Development

• A workshop on Item Writing was held on 10th September 2011. The resource person

was Dr. Lethi, from Holy Cross College, Trichy. The workshop was attended by 90

faculty members. The purpose of this workshop was to guide faculty in writing

MCQ’s of higher order to enable teachers to prepare their students for competitive

exams.

• A one day Orientation Program on “E-Content Development” was conducted on

22nd September 2011. The program was attended by 59 faculty members. The

resource person was Dr. Senthilnathan from Bharathidasan University, Trichy.

• A two day workshop on “Personal Effectiveness” was conducted on December 12th

& 13th, 2011. The resource person was Fr. Wilson, Director, Centre for Counseling &

� Centre for Religion and Interfaith Relations conducted a two-day workshop on

‘Conflict Resolutions and Peace Building’ on 9th & 10th March 2012. Prof. Roderic Owen

the Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Mary Baldwin College, Virginia, USA was

the resource person.

� Centre for Music

The Centre conducted the training on musical instruments in which thirty two students

had enrolled and rendered their public recital in the Multimedia theatre on 28th March

2011. Eight students availed the short-term summer course in Music.

The Music classes started from 1st July 2011 and 58 students have enrolled for this

academic year. (Keyboard & Western Vocal – 12; Guitar & Violin – 32 and Veena &

Carnatic Vocal – 14).

� Child

A summer workshop was conducted on “Grow up Mentally, Emotionally and

Creatively” from 25th April to 4th May 2011. 44 children of the age group 5-12 attended

the workshop
