Announcements for Sunday, September 15, 2013 St. Matthew’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Wauwatosa www.stmattslutheran.org We welcome each of you to worship. “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24, KJV). Welcome, in the name of the One who created this day for our enjoyment! Introduction for the Day: The grumbling of the Pharisees and the scribes in today’s gospel is actually our holy hope: This Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them. That our God wills to seek and to save the lost is not only a holy hope, it is our only hope. As Paul’s first letter to Timothy reminds us, “The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Thanks be to God. Communion: All baptized Christians who celebrate the real presence of Christ in the bread and wine are invited to the Lord’s Table at the 11:00 service. Gluten-free wafers are available if you ask your communion server. Those who desire juice instead of regular wine, please tell this to the communion assistant. Due to the weight of the communion trays, you may be asked to take your glass of wine from the tray as it is presented to you. Mum Sale Today! Greater Tosa Interfaith is selling potted chrysanthemums in the parking lot today. The flowers are in 8-inch pots and sell for $6.00 each or two plants for $11.00. Proceeds support Greater Tosa Interfaith Neighborhood Outreach Program which is a ministry connecting older neighbors with a caring community. Please wear a Nametag today: The first and third Sundays when you wear a nametag, you give others the opportunity to know your name. In so doing, we can become better acquainted as a church family. Greet someone new today! Hunger Baskets to be passed today: During the offering, a basket will be passed following the offering plate. The second collection will be directed toward local and world hunger. St. Matthew’s has always had a faithful focus on alleviating hunger in our world, and dedicating this collection on the 1st and third Sundays of each month helps to carry out that commitment. Healing Service Today: There will be a healing service today following the 11:00 service, here in the Sanctuary. All those desiring individual healing prayer are invited forward to one of the healing stations.

Upcoming Dates and Events

Thank you Sunday School parents! You did a great job of parking your cars and coming in to get your kids from Sunday School at pick up time last Sunday! Please continue to follow the Ò Keep it Moving - Keep it SafeÓ procedure. Here it is again:

To ensure the safety of our children and to promote safe access to worship we are asking parents who are picking up children from Sunday School to “Keep it Moving...Keep it Safe!” This is similar to what many schools do. Here’s how it works:

• Please try to park your vehicle in a parking spot and enter the building to wait for your child to be released from Sunday School.

• If your child is waiting outside you may stop in front of the education doors to pick them up.

• If your child has not been released yet, please continue to drive forward, circle left onto Milwaukee Avenue and re-enter the parking lot.

• A Welcome volunteer will be directing cars to “Keep Moving” if the child is not available for pick up.

Upcoming Dates and EventsFor those with interest in an Adult Mission Trip to help our Oklahoma neighbors In Luke’s gospel a lawyer asks Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus responds by telling the story of the Good Samaritan, a story that calls us to move beyond our comfort zone to reach out and help others. We have that opportunity in Moore, Oklahoma where on May 20, a level 5 tornado touched down killing 23 people, injuring about 400, and destroying over 1,100 homes. Based on a mission trip currently being run by St. Luke’s in Waukesha, plans are taking shape for St. Matthew’s to do a similar trip some time this spring. There will be a meeting on September 24 to share information on a St. Matthew’s trip.

Our partner church Cross Lutheran, in collaboration with Fox Point Lutheran, is expanding this fall in their second full year of a youth tutoring program. If St. Matthew’s can create a pool of volunteers, we could help Cross expand their program into the 4th to 6th grade years. The program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. including a shared meal we would collaborate on bringing to the tutored kids. As part of a team your skills and availability could be shared to fill the needs of the program. No need to tutor 2 nights per week. Learning materials and guidance are included. They would like to begin the program expansion later this fall. We look forward to hearing from you. Please find out more by contacting: Dave Weinberg-Kinsey (414-202-9525) or Pr Margaret.
