Ann Arbor Civic Theatre 85 years is a long time for any organization to be around. Ann Arbor Civic Theatre has accomplished that remarkable feat. We started in 1929 because of a strong desire by local Ann Arborites to find a creative outlet in theater with other like-minded people, and to forge new friendships.
Known then as the Civic Amateur Theatre, the organization had the same challenges-getting members, finding places to rehearse and act, and getting the whole process under control by themselves without professional help.
Despite these challenges, A2CT has had success, our membership and audiences have grown, and we continue to thrive because of the support of the individuals and businesses in Ann Arbor and the surrounding area. And our mission has remained the same: to offer opportunities to everyone in the community to participate in and to experience quality live theater. Please join us in celebrating our 85th year and help us continue the tradition! Lots of excitement awaits!

DIRECTOR'S NOTE First, I thank Ivan Menchell for his author's note from Bonnie & Clyde in our program. Second, I thank Frank Wildhorn for this remarkable Broadway score -mixing pop with country and gospel he has created one of the strongest musical scores in many years. Third, I thank the entire cast, crew, and orchestra for taking this wonderful journey together, and doing it so well - in the middle of our cold Michigan winter, they took the time to brave the weather and share their time, energy, and talent with us.
Creating Bonnie & Clyde has been an experience filled with firsts: collecting rifles and guns in my basement to the point that it looked like an arsenal. .. watching a Ford Roadster come together piece-by-piece over the past eight months and then watching the audience reaction when that car drives toward them ... "gun practice" that started in November under the direction of a police officer. .. just to name a few.
This is as good a time as any to mention that all of the weapons, as real as they look, are replicas and they are entirely non-firing. Kids, please do not try this at home. Bonnie and Clyde hurt and killed many people on their way to their unhappy ending.

AUTHOR'S NOTE At its core, this play is a fractured love story- a tragic romance. We have endeavored to capture who we believe these people really were - to explore not only their violent nature but also the passion, pain, fears and dreams that consumed them.
Clyde had a penchant for mischief even as a young boy. Poverty made him a criminal. It was prison that turned him into a killer. As one inmate put it, "Clyde entered prison a school boy and left a rattle snake:' Bonnie, on the other hand, was motivated by an almost desperate need for attention and determination to escape the profound poverty of her life.
Clyde met Bonnie when he was 20 and she was 19. What is fascinating and disturbing, given the scale of bloodshed for which they were responsible, is how deeply in love these two criminals were and how emotionally connected they were to their families.
Contrary to popular depictions, in all our research we have found no indication that Clyde was bisexual, homosexual or impotent. It was the now classic Arthur Penn movie that introduced the idea of Clyde's impotence. It worked for the film and was a compelling contrast to his violent nature, but it wasn't true.
Although Bonnie loved to pose for pictures with a gun in her hand and a cigar in her mouth, there was never conclusive proof that she killed anyone. In fact, many would argue that she never actually fired a gun. Her elementary school teacher described Bonnie as "a beautiful and obedient little girl and possessed seemingly a desire to do good and build for an ideal station in life. But like many others who fell victim to the wrong environments, and not for the lack of parental training, this should be a lesson to young girls and boys. They should strive to gain the highest badge of honor for themselves and their country:'
Bonnie and Clyde's legend was born from the dusty hard times of the 1930s. They lashed out in an era when big business and slick politicians tried to appease the suffering with shallow promises while simultaneously handing out foreclosure notices and directions to the nearest soup kitchen. It was a time in our nation's history when an upturn in the economy and a fair shot at a fulfilling life seemed as distant as the promise of the American Dream. It was a time when desperation and love combined to create the most notorious couple this country has ever known.

THE CAST
JASON ATWOOD (Ensemble, Graphic Design) is so grateful to be a part of this, his second time acting with A2CT. He was last on the A2CT stage in 2001 in The Front Page, and played Bass in several pit orchestras in the Ann Arbor area from 1996-2004. He thanks Ron and Alen for allowing him this opportunity, and his mother, Laurie, for helping keep the theatre a constant presence in his life.
LINDA LEE AUSTIN (Cumie Barrow) is happy to be working on another show with Ron Baumanis and other old friends. She looks forward to making new ones. From Curtains to Sound of Music, Wedding Singer, Sweeney Todd and others, musicals are absolutely Linda Lee's favorite style of show. Bonnie & Clyde will be another delight. As always, Rick and the cats understand.
SUE BOOTH (Eleanor, Governor Ferguson) is happy to be in another A2CT show! Past A2CT credits include How to Succeed in Business, Follies, and Sweet Charity. Other theater credits include Nunsense, Sweeney Todd, Sound of Music, and Guys & Dolls. Sue is a regular performer in Wine, Women & Song - an annual concert at Kerrytown Concert House coming up in 2 weeks! She enjoys cross-country skiing and Aero Yoga (google Aero Yoga Ann Arbor). Bravo to everyone involved in Bonnie & Clyde!
KYRlE BRISTLE (Blanche Barrow) is thrilled to be working with the A2CT for the first time! She is a graduate of Siena Heights University where she earned her MA in organizational leadership and BA in theatre/speech communication. Some of her favorite roles include Brenda Strong (Catch Me If You Can), Maureen (Rent), Doralee (9 to 5), Magenta and Janet (Rocky Horror Show), and Susan (Tick, Tick ...
BOOM). She's sending a whole lot of love to her family, friends, the wolf pack, residents, and co-workers for all of their support and encouragement.
AMANDA BURCH (Ensemble) is happy to be part of another A2CT production. Last seen this past spring as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, other credits include Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd, and several other productions through other companies. She wishes to thank the directors for this opportunity, and to her family and Kevin for their support.
BEN CHAMBERS (Young Clyde) is delighted to be back with A2CT after having a blast with Shrek this fall. He has appeared in numerous shows with Young People's Theater, and recently reprised the role of Artful Dodger in Encore Musical Theatre's Oliver. Ben also enjoyed playing Dickon in The Secret Garden with Electric Light Theater, and recently played Major General Stanley in the Emerson School production of Pirates of Penzance. In addition to musical theater, Ben enjoys teaching the pre-K age group at ATA in Saline, where he earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Ben loves working with this amazing cast and crew (including his big sister), and is grateful to A2CT for once again making this possible.
DAN CLAIR (Clyde Barrow) is delighted to be involved in another A2CT production coming off his most recent role of Seymour in last years Little Shop of Horrors. Dan would like to thank director Ron Baumanis, MD Tyler Driskill and the rest of the production team for giving him the opportunity in Bonnie & Clyde. Past credits include Joseph ..... Dreamcoat - Joseph, Urinetown - Bobby Strong, and The Producers - Leo Bloom. Dan is also a proud co-owner of Lighthouse Dance Company located in Luna Pier, MI, with his ever-so-talented wife, Delle. Thanks to
all at tonight's performance for coming out to support local community arts! Much love to Delle and upcoming baby Clair!! Shout out to his Ryder and LHDC family. Hi Sabo.
ELIZABETH COLSON (Young Bonnie) is a 7th grader at Saline Middle School. Although she has been performing since she was 6, this is her first show at A2CT. She has appeared in several shows at the Encore Theatre, including Les Miserables (Young Cosette), White Christmas (Susan), Carousel (Snow Daughter), and several ensemble roles. She has also been in a number of productions with the Young People's Theater. Elizabeth is in the awardwinning SMS Girls Choir and loves her voice lessons with Marlene Inman and dancing at Studio 3 PAC. She would like to thank her mom, Tracy Shelton-Colson, her grandparents, and all of her wonderful new friends at A2CT. She is also thankful that she doesn't have to shoot a gun in this show!
RACHEL CURTIS (Ensemble) is so happy to be working on her first A2CT show. She's a current student at the University of Michigan. She would like to thank the amazingly talented cast of Bonnie & Clyde for such a wonderful experience! Break a leg everyone!
KIMBERLY ELLIOTT (Bonnie Parker) is thrilled to be back performing with A2CT! She was last seen on their stages as Sister James in Doubt, and Hedy LaRue in H2$. Some other favorite roles include: Kitty in The Drowsy Chaperone, Rosa Bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. When not performing, you can find Kimberly teaching dance to children at Triple Threat Dance and Theatre Company in Plymouth. She would like to thank the cast and crew for this amazing experience, and Michael for his continued support.
L. C. HAVELKA (Bob Alcorn, Ensemble) is making his long-awaited return to the stage following a self-imposed exile. Once upon a time, he performed in My Fair Lady with another theatre group, but this is his first A2CT production, and he is having what can only be described as a blast. He also enjoys collecting Star Wars t-shirts and pretending to be Matthew Stafford. He is very thankful for the opportunity to be in this show and for all of the great new friends he has met. PATRICK JOHNSON (Ensemble, Set Builder, Car Designer) has been involved in many productions both on stage and behind the scenes. He recently played a dead baronet in the recent UMGASS production of Ruddigore and prior to that was the producer and co-plant builder for A2CT's production of Little Shop of Horrors. He is honored to be working with such a talented cast and production crew. Pat would like to thank his wife and son, Heather and Zach, for their ongoing support of his crazy hobbies.
KARL KASISCHKE (Sheriff Schmid) lives in Ann Arbor and is a web developer for The Whole Brain Group. His last show with A2CT was a decade ago (Cabaret) and he has since been performing regularly at the Croswell Opera House in Adrian. Some of his favorite roles have been in Les Miserables, White Christmas, The 39 Steps, Leading Ladies, Our Town, The Producers, Dinner with Friends, and Titanic. He has sung the Eight Is Enough theme song to Betty Buckley, helped Patti LuPone down several flights of stairs, and is a fan of the Oxford comma. CCILU.
VICTOR MCDERMOTT (Buck Barrow) is a performing arts instructor at Ann Arbor Academy and the host of the SoundWave television show on JTV. This is his first A2CT appearance. Past credits include
Rocky Horror Show (Eddie), Scrooge (Tom Jenkins), and Hairspray (Corny Collins) among others. Victor enjoys volunteering at the Michigan Theater and performing his original music for the Open Stages at The Ark. He would like to thank his two daughters Zoe and Ria for their support.
AYNSLEY MARTINDALE (Stella, Ensemble) is thrilled to return to A2CT for her third show this year! Recent A2CT credits: Shifting Gears (Gina) and Next to Normal (Diana), for which she won Best Actress in a Musical at The Civvies. She also starred in Country Roads (Patsy) at The Dio Dinner Theatre. She has 3 albums and has soloed with Nashville Symphony and Ypsilanti Symphony. Look for her this spring in Frida and The Merry Widow with Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit.
LAUREN NORRIS (Trish, Ensemble) is excited to be performing with A2CT for the first time. Lauren has her undergraduate degree in musical theatre from Marymount Manhattan College as well as a musical theatre masters from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Some of her favorite past credits include having her rendition of "The Man That Got Away" featured on the BBC Radio and performing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She is happy to have moved back to Michigan to be with her family and is excited to have met such wonderful theatre artists here!
KATIE PARZYCH (Ensemble) is thrilled to be appearing in her third mainstage production with A2CT. Previous credits include Moonglow and Reckless with A2CT, Phedre with Carriage House Theatre, and The Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe, and HMS Pinafore with the University of Michigan Gilbert and Sullivan Society. When not on stage, she can be found in lab working towards her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan. She would like
to thank her friends and family for their constant support and the amazing cast and crew for making this show so much fun!
TALLY PATTON (Bloody Bonnie, Ensemble, Make-up Designer) is thrilled to be involved in another A2CT production. Past credits include Gingy in Shrek with A2CT, Rusty in Footloose and Holly in the Wedding Singer with DCP, and the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, and Linda in Blood Brothers with DHS Drama Club. Special thanks to Ron Baumanis for the opportunity, and her husband, Kyle, for all of his love and support.
EMILY ROGERS (Emma) is excited to be back at A2CT! Emily's favorite A2CT credits include Death of a Salesman (Jenny), Not Waving (Nicole), Jekyll and Hyde (Emma), Sweet Charity, Chicago, Steel Pier and My Favorite Year. Emily has appeared locally with Redbud Productions, Matrix Theatre, The DIO, Performance Network and The Encore Musical Theatre. Special thanks to Ron, Tyler, Patty and Alen for the opportunity and much love to Lucas and Matt. Thank you for supporting local theatre!
RICH ROSELLE (Frank Hamer, Assorted Characters) did his first show for Ann Arbor Civic Theatre in 1980 and has done nearly 20 since. Highlights have included Jamie in The Robber Bridegroom (twice), King Pelinor in Camelot, Banjo in The Man Who Came to Dinner and the entire jury in Chicago. He hopes there are a few people of significant age to remember those performances. More recently he has appeared as David in Hay Fever and Eli Whitney in Anything Goes. Rich also serves on the board of directors as Vice President and appreciates the chance to play mean old Frank.
DOMINIC SEIPENKO (Ted Hinton) is thrilled to be a part of his first A2CT production. Past credits include Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Story, and Hairspray with Northville High School Theatre. Dominic is currently a freshman at the University of Michigan majoring in Communication Studies and is humbled to be a new addition to the Ann Arbor community. He wants to thank his friends and family for all of their love and support.
JEFF STEINHAUER (Preacher) loves spending time with the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre family, and couldn't be any more excited to be working on his second Ron Baumanis show! Jeff has been involved in a number of Civic productions, most recently as the big, green, smelly ogre in Shrek the Musical. Some of Jeff's favorite roles include: John in Miss Saigon, Thenardier in Les Mis, Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys & Dolls, Beadle in Sweeney Todd, Ben in Follies, Old Man Strong and Hot Blades Harry in Urinetown, and Harold in The Full Monty. Jeff wishes to thank you for supporting local theatre and hopes that you'll consider a tax deductible donation to A2CT in 2015.
BRAD VINCENT (Harry Barrow) is happy to be part of this amazing cast for Bonnie & Clyde. Brad has performed in recent years with A2CT, the Encore, Pinckney Players, THP as well as the Arbor Opera Theatre. Favorite roles include: Benjamin Franklin (1776), Alfie Doolittle (My Fair Lady) and Sir Danvers Carew (Jekyll and Hyde). Sincere thanks to Ron, Tyler and Alen for making room for a grandpa. MARGARET WILSON (Ensemble) is excited to make her A2CT debut in Bonnie & Clyde. Past credits include Jekyll & Hyde, Godspell, Big River, and Grease (Frenchy) with the Croswell Opera House in Adrian,
MI, Into the Woods (Cinderella) with the Tecumseh Civic Theatre in Tecumseh, MI, and Evita with Aspen Community Theatre in Aspen, CO. She sends thanks and love to her family for their support.

RONALD P. BAUMANIS (Director, Choreographer, Set Design) is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SDC) professional theatre union. He has directed and choreographed in New York City, Ohio, and throughout Southeast Michigan, specializing in song-and-dance musicals and tap. He has directed youth theatre, community theatre, regional theatre, and college theatre productions, along with countless corporate industrials and amusement park revues. Recent favorite productions include directing and choreographing Next to Normal, My One and Only, and Steel Pier, among 15 others, for Ann Arbor Civic Theatre; You're A Good Man Charlie Brown for AAMTW; The Wedding Singer for DCP; Merrily We Roll Along for WCC; Elton John's AIDA, and Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde for YPT in Ann Arbor. Besides theatre work, he holds a PhD in psychology and owns BrainTrainers Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program in Ann Arbor. He is a frequent traveler, lecturer, photographer, avid Detroit Tigers fan, and Black Labrador owner. Bonnie & Clyde is the 42nd musical that he has directed, and he has the grey hair to prove it.
TYLER DRISKILL (Music Director) is delighted to return to A2CT for this production of Bonnie & Clyde. Recent music direction credits include Dracula for the Dio Theatre and The Fantasticks, Les Miserables, Company, and Carousel (all with the Encore Musical Theatre Company). He has also music directed productions of Grey Gardens and Next To
Normal for Ann Arbor Civic Theatre and has just entered his fifth season as orchestra director for Pioneer High School Theatre Guild. Tyler is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance and has served the past nine years as an accompanist for the U-M Musical Theatre and Dance departments. He would like to thank all those who lent their time, energy, and talents to make this production possible, especially Ron, Patty and Alen. He wishes to thank his wife, Rebecca, as always, for her continued love, support, and patience.
ALEN FYFE (Asst. Director) is very pleased to continue his community theater connection with A2CT. What a pleasure to work with Ron and a spectacular cast and crew. They are all amazing. We hope that you enjoy the performance as much as we did presenting it. Alen has been involved in all aspects of theater for about 30 years, from directing and producing to acting and performing all sorts of back stage activities. Working with Ron and Pat on this awesome set has been a great experience and watching all the hard work the cast put in to make this a memorable show. Now people won't be concerned about "Bonnie & Clyde, the musical???" All of you watching the show will know the answer. He would like to thank his husband Mark for all his support especially during the trials of the last few months.
TJ JOHNSON (Lighting Design) always loves to design lights at Lydia Mendelssohn Theater. He designed lights for Little Shop
of Horrors last season but has designed lights in the last couple of seasons for Into the Woods and Follies. He also appeared on stage last season in Noises Off and directed The Lion in Winter. He is currently on the Play Selection Committee for the 15-16 season. He would like to thank JAC for letting him do shows even when it is birthday season.
PATRICIA MAZZOLA (Producer) has worked on numerous theatrical productions locally, nationally and internationally as a performer, choreographer and director, in both civic and professional companies. Her most rewarding production, however, is ongoing as a mother to two terrific people. Patty is grateful to A2CT for continuing their long tradition of providing entertainment and opportunities to learn and grow in theatre. Happy Anniversary!
BOB SKON (Sound Designer) has been a member of A2CT since 2001. Though occasionally bitten by the acting bug, he has worked mainly off stage designing sound, serving on committees, and driving the A2CT "float" in the July 4th parade.
AARON C. WADE (Promotional Photography) is happy to be working a second year with A2CT. Past Civic credits include Moonglow, Next to Normal, Reckless, and Noises Off. Aaron has brought his unique style to provide iconic images of the cast and capture special candid moments of the Bonnie & Clyde production.

Becoming an A2CT Member Ann Arbor Civic Theatre (A2CT) has been fostering a love of theater since 1929. We provide opportunities for all members of the community to participate in and attend quality theater productions. We value the development of creative talent, artistic and educational growth, and a stronger culture of arts awareness in the community.
Each season A2CT produces six main stage shows-typically three musicals and three plays; three Studio Series productions in our intimate 40-seat studio; a playwriting contest of new plays; two Junior Theatre productions with young actors in grades 4-12 with performances for ages 4+ and special performances for organizations serving at-risk youth; and many workshops, camps, and team-building events.
We could not provide any of these wonderful opportunities without the support of our members; as has always been true, revenue from ticket sales alone cannot cover our operating costs. Please consider becoming a member of A2CT, and help foster a love of theater for years to come.
