OPERATING CAPACITY

DEMINERALIzATION – ResinTech sBAcR is highly recommended for use in multiple and mixed bed demineralizers, wherever complete ion removal and organic fouling resistance is required.

ResinTech sBAcR's high operating capacity makes it ideal for applica-tions such as multiple bed deionization. Its higher porosity together with its acrylic structure provides an increased resistance to organic fouling compared with styrene based Type One anion resins like ResinTech sBG1P.

DEALKALIzATION – The operating capacity of ResinTech SBACR for acid removal at various regeneration levels when treating an influent with a concentration of 500 ppm, as CaCO3, is shown in the following table:

*CAUTION:DO NOT MIX ION EXCHANGE RESIN WITH STRONG OXIDIZING AGENTS. Nitric acid and other strong oxidizing agents can cause explosive reactions when mixed with organic materials, such as ion exchange resins. APPLICATIONS

TEmPERATURE CONSIDERATIONS

ResinTech sBAcR is highly recommended for use where the combination of carbon dioxide plus silica is less than 40% of the total anions, and where chlorides and organics represent a large portion of the ions to be removed on a regenerable basis. ResinTech SBG2 should also be considered for these applications especially if tem-peratures exceed 90oF on a regular basis.

Acrylic anion resins, including the Type One anion exchangers, have lower thermal and oxidation resistance than styrene based Type One or Type Two resins. ResinTech sBAcR's combination of higher poros-ity, regeneration efficiency, and organic fouling resistance make it an excellent choice where the water temperature is always below 95oF. The physical and chemical stability of the hydroxide form of ResinTech SBACR declines rapidly at higher temperatures. Therefore, it is sug-gested that exposure to temperatures above 95oF be avoided when it is in the hydroxide form.

ORGANIC REMOvAL – ResinTech sBAcR has regeneration charac-teristics midway between ResinTech sBG1P and ResinTech sBG2; the major difference between them is the polymer backbone. ResinTech sBAcR's greater porosity and acrylic backbone gives it fast kinetics, and improved ability to reversibly sorb naturally occurring organic ions. Therefore, in waters high in organics, ResinTech sBAcR may become the resin of choice. However, ResinTech sBG2 has equivalent fouling resistance, with higher capacity plus greater tolerance to oxi-dation and high temperature. We suggest you consult our technical staff for specific recommendations.

TANNIN & COLOR REMOvAL – Tannins and similar naturally occurring organics cause most of the color in potable waters. ResinTech sBAcR can be operated with salt regeneration and removes these substances. This makes it useful as an “Organic Trap” operating in front of a demineralizer to protect it from organic fouling. It also makes it useful in upgrading potable waters by removing these color-causing substances. The bulk of the color-causing substances are tannic acids that are naturally occurring organics. As an organic trap it is operated in its own vessel and regenerated with salt or a combination of salt and caustic. In tannin or color reduction applications for potable waters, it can often be placed in the same vessel as the softener. It is used as an upper layer in a sodium cycle softener filled with ResinTech cG8.6 19.3 23.3 17.0 19.3

ResinTech sBG1 is a high capacity, shock resistant, gelular, Type 1, strongly basic anion exchange resin supplied in the chloride or hydroxide form as moist, tough, uniform, spherical beads. ResinTech sBG1 is intended for use in all types of deionization systems and chemical processing applications. It is similar to ResinTech sBG1P but has a higher volumetric capacity and exhibits lower TOC leach rates. This makes it the better performer in single use applications such as in cartridge deionization and when high levels of regeneration are used such as in polishing mixed beds. On the other hand, ResinTech sBG1P is more resistant to organic fouling and gives higher operating capacities at low regeneration levels such as those used in make up demineralizers.

• COMPLIES WITH FDA REGULATIONS FOR POTABLE WATER APPLICATIONS. Conforms to paragraph 21CFR173.25 of the Food Additives Regulations of the F.D.A.*

• HIGH TOTAL CAPACITY Provides longer run lengths in single use applications or where high levels of regeneration are used such as in mixed bed polishers, cartridge demineralizers.

• UNIFORM PARTICLE SIZE 16 to plus 50 mesh range; gives a LOWER PRESSURE DROP while maintaining SUPERIOR KINETICS.

• SUPERIOR PHYSICAL STABILITY

• LOWER TOC LEACH RATE Makes it ideal for polishing mixed beds in wafer washing and other high purity water polishing applications.

* For potable water applications, the resin must be properly pre-treated, usually by multiple exhaustion and regeneration cycles, to ensure compliance with extractable levels

PRESSURE DROPThe graph above shows the expected pressure loss per foot of bed depth as a function of flow rate, at various temperatures.

BACKWASHAfter each cycle the resin bed should be backwashed at a rate that expands the bed 50 to 75 percent. This will remove any foreign matter and reclassify the bed. The graph above shows the expansion characteristics of ResinTech sBG1 in the sodium form.

The operating capacity of ResinTech sBG1 for a variety of acids at various regeneration levels when treating an influent with a concentration 500 ppm, expressed as CaCO3 is shown in the following table:

DEMINERALIZATION – ResinTech sBG1 is highly recommended for use in mixed bed demin-eralizers, wherever complete ion removal; superior physical and osmotic stability and low TOC leachables are required such as in wafer fabrication and other ultrapure applications.

ResinTech SBG1 has high total capacity and low swelling on regenera-tion and provides maximum operating capacity in cartridge deionization applications. It is ideal for single use applications such as precious metal recovery, radwaste disposal and purification of toxic waste streams.Highly crosslinked Type 1, styrenic anion exchangers have greater ther-mal and oxidation resistance than other types of strong base resins. They can be operated and regenerated at higher temperatures. The combina-tion of lower porosity, high total capacity and Type 1 functionality make ResinTech SBG1 the resin of choice when water temperatures exceed 85oF and where the combination of carbon dioxide, borate and silica exceed 40% of the total anions.

ResinTech SBG1P and ResinTech sBG1 are quite similar; the difference between them is the degree of porosity. ResinTech sBG1P has greater porosity that gives it faster kinetics, and greater ability to reversibly sorb slow moving ions such as Naturally occurring Organic Matter (NOM). At lower regeneration levels and where chlorides make up a substantial portion of the anion load, or where the removal and elution of naturally occurring organics is of concern ResinTech sBG1P, SBACR or SBG2 should be considered. At the higher regeneration levels used in mixed bed polishers ResinTech sBG1 provides higher capacity, and the lowest possible TOC leach rates.

ResinTech sBG1P is a highly porous, gelular, Type 1, strongly basic anion resin, supplied in the chloride form as moist, tough, uniform spherical beads. It has greater porosity and is slightly less dense than standard Type One resins such as ResinTech sBG1. This provides superior regeneration efficiency, easier separation in regenerable mixed beds, and greater resistance to organic fouling.ResinTech sBG1P is intended for use in all types of deionization systems and chemical process-ing applications and is especially suited for use in regenerable mixed beds.

• COMPLIES WITH FDA REGULATIONS FOR POTABLE WATER APPLICATIONS. Conforms to paragraph 21CFR173.25 of the Food Additives Regulations of the F.D.A.*

• HIGHLy UNIFORM PARTICLE SIZE 16 to 50 mesh range; giving a LOWER PRESSURE DROP while maintaining SUPERIOR KINETICS.

• SUPERIOR PHySICAL STABILITy 90 percent plus sphericity combined with high crush strengths and uniform particle size provide greater resistance to bead breakage. This results in longer resin life and lower pressure drop.

• ORGANIC FOULING RESISTANCE AND HIGH OPERATING CAPACITy The highly porous structure of ResinTech sBG1P allows greater removal and elution of large organic molecules. The useful operating life of ResinTech sBG1P is much greater than standard porosity resins like ResinTech SBG1 when dealing with streams containing significant amounts or organics.

* For potable water applications, the resin must be properly pre-treated, usually by multiple exhaustion and regeneration cycles, to ensure compliance with extractable levels

The operating capacity of ResinTech sBG1P for acid removal at various regeneration levels when treating an influent with a concentration of 500 ppm, as CaCO3, is shown in the following table.

DEMINERALIZATION - ResinTech sBG1P is widely used in multiple and mixed bed demineral-izers, wherever complete ion and organic removal are required.ResinTech sBG1P's porosity provides the capability of reversibly sorb-ing naturally occurring organic substances that tend to foul anion resins. Its porosity also provides an increased operating capacity compared with ResinTech sBG1.

Type 1 anion exchangers have greater thermal and oxidation resistance than other types of strong base resins and can be operated at higher tem-peratures to insure low silica leakages. ResinTech sBG1P's combination of porosity and functionality make it the resin of choice where the water temperature is in excess of 85ºF or where the combination of carbon diox-ide plus silica exceed 40% of the total anions.

ResinTech sBG1P's low density provides maximum separation during the regeneration cycle of mixed bed demineralizers. This results in longer service runs and higher quality effluents.

DESILICIZERS - In certain applications, water supplies with low dissolved solids need only be treated for hardness and silica removal. ResinTech CG8 operating in the sodium cycle followed by ResinTech sBG1P operating in the hydroxide cycle is a very effective way of providing low silica, and low hardness water for medium pressure boilers. This represents considerable savings over the use of deionization equipment

HYDRAULIC PROPERTIES

ResinTech sBG2 is a high capacity, gelular, Type Two strongly basic anion exchange resin supplied in the chloride form as moist, tough, uniform spherical beads. It provides superior regeneration efficiency and greater resistance to organic fouling than Type One strongly basic anion exchange resins. ResinTech sBG2 is intended for use in all types of dealkaliza-tion, deionization and chemical processing applications.

• HIGH OPERATING CAPACITY The high regeneration efficiency of ResinTech SBG2 equates to higher throughputs per pound of regenerant chemical.

• COMPLIES WITH FDA REGULATIONS FOR POTABLE WATER APPLICATIONS Conforms to paragraph 21 CFR173.25 of the Food Additives Regulations of the F.D.A.*

• SUPERIOR PHYSICAL STABILITY 93% plus sphericity combined with high crush strengths and uniform particle size provide greater resistance to bead breakage. This results in longer resin life and lower pressure drop.

• ORGANIC FOULING RESISTANCE Type Two exchange functionality provides a dramatic increase in resistance to organic fouling compared to other types of strongly anion exchangers.

* For potable water applications, the resin must be properly pre-treated, usually by multiple exhaustion and regeneration cycles, to ensure compliance with extractable levels.

The operating capacity of ResinTech sBG2 for acid removal at various regeneration levels when treating an influent of 500 ppm of HCl, as CaCO3, is shown in the following table.:

DEMINERALIzATION – ResinTech sBG2 is generally used in both multiple bed systems where its tremendous operating capacity is best utilized. Its use should be restricted to where water temperatures are less than 85ºF and carbon dioxide plus silica do not exceed 30% of the exchangeable anions.

In waters where natural organics are found, Type Two resins such as ResinTech sBG2 will retain their original operating capacity longer than Type One resins, such as ResinTech SBG1P, operating at similar regeneration levels.

ResinTech sBG2 is less susceptible to becoming fouled by naturally occurring organics and can often be used alone as a "working resin" on waters that would normally require extensive pretreatment or an organic scavenger ahead of the demineralizer.

DEALKALIzATION – ResinTech sBG2 can be regenerated with sodium chloride and used to remove alkalinity. A small amount of sodium hydroxide can be mixed with the salt to obtain a higher operating capacity. A regeneration level of 5 pounds of salt mixed with 0.25 pound of caustic per cubic foot will provide an operating capacity of up to 15 Kgrs. per cubic foot on waters containing 100% bicarbonate alkalinity.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

HYDRAULIC PROPERTIES

RESINTECH SBMP1 is a high capacity, shock resistant, macroporous, Type One, strongly basic anion resin supplied in the chloride or hydroxideform as moist, tough, uniform, spherical beads. RESINTECH SBMP1 has a unique macroporous structure, which contributes to its unusually highcapacity. Its resistance to organic fouling is superior to gel Type One resins such as RESINTECH SBG1 and SBG1P.

RESINTECH SBMP1 is intended for use in all types of deionization systems, condensate polishing and chemical processing applications.

• SUPERIOR PHYSICAL STABILITY95% sphericity combined with macroporous structure, high crush strength and uniform particle size provide greater resistance to bead breakage caused by osmotic shock.

• ORGANIC FOULING RESISTANCE Unique macroporous structure plus the porous structure of the gel phase gives high removal capacity and good elution of large organic molecules.

• HIGHLY UNIFORM PARTICLE SIZE Gives LOW PRESSURE DROP while maintaining SUPERIOR KINETICS.

• COMPLIES WITH FDA REGULATIONS FOR POTABLE WATER APPLICATIONS Conforms to paragraph 21CFR173.25 of the Food Additives Regulations of the F.D.A.** For potable water applications proper pre-treatment, usually by pre-rinsing or multiple cycles of exhaustion are required to ensure

compliance with extractable levels.

PRESSURE DROPThe graph above shows the expected pressure loss per foot of beddepth as a function of flow rate, at various water temperatures.

BACKWASHAfter each cycle the resin bed should be backwashed at a rate thatexpands the bed 50 to 75 percent. This will remove any foreign matter and reclassify the bed. The graph below shows the expansioncharacteristics of RESINTECH SBMP1, in the chloride form.

The operating capacity of RESINTECH SBMP1 for acid removal at variousregeneration levels when treating an influent with a concentration of 500ppm, as CaCO3, is shown in the following table:

RESINTECH SBMP1'S macroporous structure and gel phase porosityprovides the capability of reversibly sorbing naturally occurring organ-ic substances that tend to foul anion resins. Its unique structure alsoprovides an equal or better operating capacity compared with gelresins like RESINTECH SBG1 or porous gel resins like RESINTECH SBG1P.

Physical StabilityType One anion exchangers have greater thermal and oxidation resistance than other types of strong base resins and can be operatedat higher temperatures to ensure low silica leakages. RESINTECH

SBMP1'S macroporous structure and Type 1 functionality make it theresin of choice where the water temperature is in excess of 85o F orwhere the combination of carbon dioxide plus silica exceeds 40 per-cent of the total anions.

Mixed Bed DeionizationMixed bed demineralizers, such as condensate polishers that havesevere hydraulic demands require resins with high resistance to the corresponding mechanical, thermal and osmotic stresses.RESINTECH SBMP1 gives extended operating life in these environments.Due to its low density and opaque appearance, RESINTECH SBMP1 alsoprovides maximum separation visibility during the regeneration cycleof mixed bed demineralizers. This results in longer service runs andhigher quality effluents.

Anion ExchangeIn certain applications, anion exchange is used to convert or purifychemical baths and solutions. In many of these applications, chemi-cal, physical and thermal conditions of operation are more severe thanin traditional demineralization applications making RESINTECH SBMP1with its greater all around stability the preferred anion exchanger.
