n THE NATURAL WORLD: ANIMALS AND PLANTS

Most plants and animals live in areas with very specific climate conditions,

such as temperature and rainfall patterns, that enable them to thrive. Any

change in the climate of an area can affect the plants and animals livingthere, as well as the makeup of the entire ecosystem. Some species are

already responding to a warmer climate by moving to cooler locations. Forexample, some North American animals and plants are moving farther north

or to higher elevations to find suitable places to live. Climate change also

alters the life cycles of plants and animals. For example, as temperaturesget warmer, many plants are starting to grow and bloom earlier in the spring

and survive longer into the fall. Some animals are waking from hibernationsooner or migrating at different times, too.

Plants and animals have some things in common and some differences too.Plants generally are rooted in one place and do not move on their own(locomotion), whereas most animals have the ability to move fairly freely.

Plants contain chlorophyll and can make their own food, this is calledPhotosynthesis. Animals cannot make their own food and are dependent on

plants and other animals for food.Plants give off oxygen and take in carbon dioxide given off by animals.

oxygen which they need to breathe. So they help each other.Plants cells have cell walls and other structures differ from those of animals.

Animal cells do not have cell walls and have different structures than plant

cells.Plants have either no or very basic ability to sense. Animals have a much

more highly developed sensory and nervous system.Plants have a very rudimentary circulatory system based on pressure and

potential differences; the majority of "higher" animals have closed

    circulatory systems.

EXERCISESRead the text and answer the following questions.

    1. In what way does the climate affect animals and plants living ina specific area?

Any change in the climate of an area can affect the plants

and animals living there, as well as the makeup of the entireecosystem. Some species are already responding to a warmer climate

by moving to cooler locations.. Climate change also alters the life cycles of plants and animals.

    .

    2. What do some animals do for getting a better place to live?

Plants generally are rooted in one place and do not move on their own(locomotion), whereas most animals have the ability to move fairly

    freely.

    3. What is a plant? Vegetable, to be organic that is characterized for

growing and to live fixed in a certain place, realizing thephotosynthesis and having complex cells grouped in fabrics, organs,

    devices and systems.

    .

    4. What is an animal?

To be organic that lives, he feels and moves for ownimpulse.

    5. What are the differences between plants and animals?

    Australian parakeet

    The parakeet measures something less

than 19 cm from the head to the top of

the tail, and weight about 35 g. The wild

variety is that of green color, with the

yellow head and the wavy back. It

possesses the beak curled down, two

    fingers towards ahead and two

backward. This facilitates him to climb

over the trees and to be fed on seeds.
