Backgrounder

Anil Limited, Flagship Company of Ahmedabad-based ANIL Group, is a pioneer in Corn Wet Milling business of manufacturing starch and specialty starch products. The company, conceptualized by founder Shri Chinubhai Manibhai Sheth in 1939, has maintained legacy of growth and progress by taking proactive growth measures. As of today, Anil Limited is a publicly listed company with an annual turnover of Rs 374 crores, as of 2009.

In the Corn Wet Milling business, Anil Products Limited is known to have one of the oldest and largest units in the country. From a humble start of 1 ton / day grinding operations in the beginning, the capacity witnessed exponential growth and touched 550 tonnes per day mark. Currently, the unit produces a complete range of starch products which caters to the wide range of 30 end user industries.

The products we offer include Native Starch (Corn Starch), Food Grade Starch, Pharma Grade Starch, Modified Starch, Liquid Glucose (Corn Syrup), Dextrin’s, Dextrose Monohydrate, Glucose Anhydrous, Corn Gluten Meal, etc. The starches and other products are made from high grade quality of raw materials and are used in Textile, Paper, Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals and many other allied industries.

Manufacturing Facilities of Anil Limited are located at Bapunagar, Ahmedabad in area of 37 acres (1.5 lakh sq. meters), which comprises of:

Apart from manufacturing facilities, the infrastructure comprises of a Boiler House, Demineralization Plant and Effluent Treatment Plant.

Research & Development: ANIL’s state of the art R&D Laboratory has been accorded recognition by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Key activities of R&D is to focus on new products and application development, keeping abreast with latest developments worldwide, process reengineering to optimize product cost and providing customized solutions to customers. R&D works very closely with the customers along with the application development team to provide an optimal solution. The R&D also works closely with some of the leading scientific institutions of India.

A joint team of technical experts from R&D laboratories work round-the-clock with Sales and International Marketing team to address customer’s primary needs, improvise and innovate on specific client requirements and suggest new products / services that add value to business of our partners, associates and clients.

Product Overview







Globally, Anil Limited serves more than 30 diverse industries including those in textile, paper, food & beverages, soft drink, corrugating, leather. Our products and their primary uses include:

1. Starches: In the food industries, corn starch is used primarily as a thickener or binder in many processed foods, and is also sold to packers for consumer consumption. In non-food industries, starches are used as strengthening and finishing components in paper production, and in the production of high-quality adhesives for shipping containers, display boards and other corrugated products. The textile industry uses starch to reduce friction in the weaving process and to improve a fabric’s feel and appearance.Unmodified starch is used in the brewing industry and is sold for home use as a thickener for cooking. In industrial applications such as paper and corrugating, unmodified starch provides outstanding finishing, binding and adhesive qualities. Modified starch in food applications has the benefit of remaining stable at a wide range of temperatures, as well as providing freeze-thaw stability. This makes it ideal for use in frozen and instant foods including microwave dinners, salad dressings, canned soups, pie fillings and other processed foods. Modified starches for industrial uses provide papermakers with a convenient way to increase strength and improve the physical properties of paper. Modified starches also improve bonding characteristics of corrugated adhesives.Industrial applications for starches serve a variety of industries and purposes including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plastics, resins, adhesives, construction materials, mining, oil and gas drilling, and water filtration. Corn Products International makes several specialized industrial starches, such as cationic starches and carrier starches. Cationic starches allow paper manufacturers to use recycled fibers more effectively, increase machine speeds, conserve energy and improve wet strength. Carrier starches enable the corrugating industry to bond difficult papers and increase machine speed without sacrificing board quality.

2. Sweeteners: Sweeteners generated in the corn-refining process, are used as sugar substitutes and other applications. The Company produces high fructose corn syrup and glucose corn syrups for soft drinks, candy and baking. High maltose corn syrup is a component of beer, confections and canned foods. Maltodextrins are found in dry food mixes, sports drinks, baked goods and confections. Dextrose is manufactured for confections, baked goods, dry mixes, intravenous injections and other pharmaceutical applications, vitamins, amino acids and alcohols.







3. Dextrose – We manufacture three types of dextrose: monohydrate, anhydrous and specialty. Monohydrate dextrose is used across various food industries in many products that also use glucose or corn syrup, especially in the confectionery, baking and brewing sectors. Anhydrous dextrose is also used in some specialty food applications, but its primary usage is for intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical applications. Specialty dextrose is used in various applications ranging from confectionery tableting mixes and low-calorie, tabletop, high-intensity sweeteners to spice mixes and beverage powders. Other dextrose applications include industrial uses in wallboard, biodegradable surfactants and humectants, and as a base for fermentation products in vitamins, organic acids, amino acids and alcohol.

4. High Maltose Corn Syrup – This glucose syrup, because of its unique carbohydrate profile, is used as a source of fermentable sugars in brewing beer. High maltose syrup is also used in the production of confections, canning and other processed food applications.

5. Glucose/Corn Syrup – This syrup is used as a base in industrial and food products. Food applications include baked goods, beverages, snack foods, canned fruits, condiments, candy, dairy products, preserves, prepared mixes and table syrups.

6. Maltodextrin, and Glucose and Corn Syrup Solids – Maltodextrins, which have excellent carrier, bulking and film forming properties, is widely used in dry food products such as coffee whitener and flavour ingredients. Corn syrup solids also have excellent bulking properties. They remain clear in solutions, are easy to handle and have a bland flavour. The food industry uses these solids in formulations as an alternative to liquid corn syrups.

Shri Amol S. Sheth is the principal promoter member of the Anil Group. He has been in the business for more than 15 years and has been involved in all the facets of the business operations and management of all Group Companies.

He brings a wealth of insights into the business intricacies along with the infectious enthusiasm for any initiative. In his role as the Chief Mentor for the Group, he is architecting an aggressive growth plan in the Bio-Industrial, Rural Infrastructure and Food Processing domain with a clear emphasis on seamless project execution and sustainable value creation for all the stakeholders.

Amol is a commerce graduate and has attended various management and leadership courses in India and the USA. He is well versed with all the aspect of business and has specific strengths in the areas of Strategy & Finance. He works on strategy formulation and is relentless in his pursuit of professionalizing the business and plotting a visionary path forward.

As a third-generation entrepreneur, Amol promising ideas and an inherently international outlook has contributed to the growth and success of the ANIL group. Amongst various first time initiatives, he was instrumental in getting an E.R.P. (SAP) implemented at Anil Limited 10 years ago, which was the first of such implementation in the comparable sized companies in India. He continually puts lot of emphasis on systems & processes and has been keenly championing the adaptation of modern management & work practices like 5S, Kaizen, Quality Circles, TPM, TQM etc. in the company. Amol believes in the power of people and leaves no stone unturned in ensuring that the employees’ personal and professional needs in terms of self & professional development, work-life balance get addressed adequately. He is also the current President of AISMA (All India Starch Manufacturers Association).
