AngTinig St. John the Baptist Parish 140 Pinaglabanan Street, San Juan City
(Gawa 1:1-11; Efeso 1:17-23; Lucas 24:46-53)
ni Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo
PAKSA: ANG PAG-AKYAT NG PANGINOON SA LANGIT AY ISANG
PAALAALA NA DAPAT IBABA NATIN SA DULO NG MUNDO ANG ATING
PAGSASAKSI SA KANYA UPANG ANG LAHAT AY NAPASAILALIM SA
KANYANG KAPANGYARIHAN.
Samakatuwid,
nailigtas sila sa kapangyarihan ng demonyo.
KAYA, KUNG MAYROONG NAPASAILALIM SA KAPANGYARIHAN NI KRISTO
O KUNG MAYROONG MGA NAPASA KANILA ANG KALIGTASAN DAHIL
NAGSISI SILA SA KASALANAN AT NAPATAWAD, MASASABI NA TALAGANG
IBINABA NATIN SA DULO NG DAIGDIG ANG ATING PAGSASAKSI
KAY KRISTO AT ANG MATAGUMPAY NA PALALA AY ANG PAG-AKYAT NG
PANGINOON SA LANGIT.

The BEC Batis Fiesta Mass was celebrated on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at
7:00 A.M. at Sis. Mary Pacheco Residence. The preside of the Mass was
Msgr. Nestor C. Cerbo, the Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist Parish, San
Juan City.
In his homily which was focused on the words of Jesus in the Gospel of the
Panginoong Hesukristo.”
Bro. Jobert Ochoa, Servant Leader of BEC Batis thank everyone for their
presence and help that make the Fiesta celebration meaningful and
fruitful. Msgr. Cerbo announced some of the activities for the forthcoming
Parish Fiesta that would involve the BEC, namely, libreng binyag, libreng
kumpil, libreng kasal. He requested everyone to help their Servant Leader
identify in their BEC those who are not yet baptized, confirmed and
married so that they can avail of the sacraments during the Parish Fiesta
celebration.

This is not my first time to undergo the apostolate program of Kapatiran ng
mga Seminarista ng Arkidiyosesis ng Maynila (KASAMA). I have already
been assigned to other parishes in Manila like Holy Trinity Parish
(Sampaloc, Manila) and Sta. Clara de Montefalco Parish (Pasay City). St.
John the Baptist Parish is the third parish in the Archdiocese of Manila
where I spent my summer apostolate and allow me to share my
experience with its parishioners.
First of all, I never had a hard time relating with the servers of the parish.
From the priests, namely Msgr. Nestor, Fr. Herbert, and Fr. Raul, the lectors,
the sacristans, the Mother Butler Guild, up to the individual members of the
Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC), everyone greeted me with warm hearts.
They made me feel as if I have lived here in San Juan for a long time – so
adjusting was never a problem to me. I felt at home. Also, they made me
feel that they are very thankful for having me as their guests.
Sem. Raymart De Guzman
I and my partner Raymart were assigned to partake in the BEC meetings
of the various barangays here in San Juan. In every meeting, we are given
the opportunity to give a little sharing or reflection about the readings of
the upcoming Sunday mass. As an incoming theologian, such sharings
allow me to boost my self-confidence and public-speaking skills. Not only
that, these little gatherings serve as an avenue for me to share the ideas I
learned from my seminary formation; to catechize them about the matters
of faith; and to listen as to how Jesus worked in their lives. They might not
know it but it really affirms me when they start nodding their heads or start
saying Amen! to my reflections because it means that I am already
tugging something in their hearts.
In the three weeks that I have stayed here in SJBP, there are two things
that I cherish the most:
First, the life stories of the people. The multiple sicknesses, family problems,
financial difficulties, and the many questions in faith add up to my
eagerness to become a priest. Their stories make me want to be a
shepherd immediately in order to help them in their troubles. It is their cries
during the meetings which tell me that they need a companion in their
journey. All the more I want to bring Jesus and his people closer together.
Sem. Aldwin Geralao
Second, the shepherds of this parish: Msgr. Nestor, Fr. Herbert, and Fr. Raul.
The stories of their priestly ministry, its joys and sorrows, during our meal
times are very invaluable to this vocation of mine. They concretely
showed me the vocation which I am about to undertake, as if they are
asking me, Are you ready for these? They showed what it is like to
celebrate five masses in a day; to go to the hospital and anoint the sick in
a hot summer day; to marry a dying bride with his groom without further
preparations; to wake up early in the morning just to be informed that the
six a.m. mass was postponed; and many more. Seeing them do such
really make me ask my self: Am I ready to become a priest? Is this the
ministry that I really want to get into?
Saint John the Baptist Parish… a parish who helped me hone my Vocation;
a parish who showed me Jesus through the life stories of BEC members; a
parish who showed me the ministry I am about to take through her priests;
a parish which I owe a lot of gratitude and prayers.
Salamat po! Oremus pro invicem. – Sem. Aldwin Ivan Geralao

As she is fondly called “Ate Mitos,” Mrs. Sofia Milagros L. Cruz ended her
stint at St. John the Baptist Parish (SJBP), San Juan City, on Saturday, April
30, 2016. SJBP tendered lunch for her in honor, appreciation and
thanksgiving for her more than two years of service at its Parish Office as
Parish Secretary. Those who shared lunch with her were the SJBP priests,
personnel and the Parish Finance Council.
Ate Mitos submitted her letter of irrevocable resignation as Parish
Secretary of SJBP on March 29, 2016. In her letter addressed to Msgr.
Nestor Cerbo, SJBP Parish Priest, she mentioned as the reason of her
resignation her health condition which had made difficult her travel from
home to the parish.
It took about a month for Msgr Cerbo to reply to the resignation letter of
Ate Mitos. In his reply letter, Msgr. Cerbo wrote, “I understand your reason
for your resignation – your health condition which is of prime importance. I
cannot but respect and accept your irrevocable resignation.”
Msgr. Cerbo added, “I take this opportunity to thank you for your selfless
services to SJBP and to express my admiration for your sacrifices in
coming daily to the office despite experiencing difficulties because of
your health condition.”
We pray for the best for Ate Mitos as she embarks on a new journey of her
life.

The ceiling of the Formation Center of St. John the Baptist Parish (SJBP) has
been noticed to be having cracks which has been increasing in length
and has been observed to be continuously sagging. Using the manhole in
the ceiling to peep into the inside, it was observed that the anchor points
are giving way because the contractor used only concrete nails.
This was the result of the inspection done on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at
10:00 AM, in the Formation Center’s Ceiling in the presence of Msgr. Nestor
C. Cerbo, the Parish Priest of SJBP. Major Repair will have to be undertaken
to strengthen the grip of the anchor points and this would involve the
removal of gypsum board to give way the major repair work. The major
repair will be undertaken by the Weltanchaung Corporation with office
address in Brgy. Poblacion, Mandaluyong.

parokya. Ito’y pinangunahang muli ni Bro. Tatang Medoza. Si Bro. Tatang
ay ang Lay Coordinator ng Ministry of BEC Formation and Promotion ng
Archdiocese of Manila.
Hinimok muli
of 81%.
ating parokya.
