Back Street Waste

Future campaigns to tackle back street dumping are planned.

This activity is a blight on Bolton's environment, and is costing the Authority hundreds of thousands of pounds to deal with each year.

Working in partnership with Neighbourhood Managers, a campaign will be rolled out to educate residents in some of the towns most challenging areas

It is estimated the dog populationof the UK is 8 million, producing around 1000 tonnes of dog excrement per day.

The majority of owners behave responsibly and pick after their dogs. However, dog mess left by a minority of irresponsible owners is often the cause of complaints to the local Councils

What is Litter?

Litter is caused by people, and can refer to anything from a crisp packet or cigarette butt to a bag of rubbish.

All litter is unsightly and makes our local areas look untidy and uncared for.

Common things seen as litter include fast-food packaging, sweet wrappers, drinks cans, bottles and smoking related litter.

Future Initiatives – Takeaway Waste

As people live busier lives, work later and eat on the move more frequently, they also drop more litter. With Bolton’s thriving night time economy also adding to this problem, consumer patterns increasingly take place over a 24 hour period.

The Council is intending to create a ‘Voluntary Code of Practice’ for reducing litter caused by food on the go establishments throughout Bolton
