This internship consists on upgrading the Naval Postgraduate School’s library web based catalog discovery layer. The updating process will be composed of configuring and customizing the web interface, exporting and importing library records, connecting with third party applications, security and automation. An open source discovery software titled Vufind will be used to achieve these tasks. Vufind is a library resource portal designed to enable your users to search and browse through all of your library’s resources which can include digital library items and catalog records. Vufind will be installed into a RHEL (red hat enterprise linux) which is linux based and configured to fit the Naval Postgraduate School requirements. The implementation of upgrading the library discovery layer will have an end result of bug fixes, faster response time, and adding new functions into the web interface. The project was formulated by a group of three colleagues (Mentor, Intern, and IT Specialist). Each group member was assigned to different roles. The intern was assigned to install, configure, customize, and documenting the updating process with the help of the other two colleagues. Most of the updating process was done using an iMac running OS X operating system. A terminal application providing a command line interface was additionally used to run the proper command in order to obtain the new version of the open source discovery software Vufind. The documentation was done using Microsoft word. The Mentor for the project supervised the intern to make sure the process went smoothly.
