 The wall is musculoaponeurotic, except for the posterior wall, whichincludes the lumbar region of the vertebral column.

 The boundary between the anterior and the lateral walls is indenite,therefore the term anterolateral abdominal wall is often used.

 The anterolateral abdominal wall consists of skin and subcutaneoustissue (supercial fascia) composed mainly of fat, muscles and theiraponeuroses and deep fascia, extraperitoneal fat, and parietal

The posterior abdominal wall is mainlycomposed of the:

• +ive lumbar vertebrae and associated ' discs (centrally).

• -osterior abdominal wall muscles

• iaphragm, which contributes to the superior part of the posterior wall.
