The results of the 1991-1992 survey have benelitted from that experience and a number of innovations and en- hancements have been incorporated. Responses were obtained from ap- proximately 1,800 laboratory managers throughout North America. Informa- tion on up to 93 products from 10 instrument categories (Liquid Chro- matography, Gas Chromatography, Atomic Spectroscopy, Molecular Spectroscopy, Biotechnology, Ther- mal Analyzers, Physical Properties, Elemental Analyzers, Chromato- graphy Data Systems, and Other Lab Automation) are provided. In addi- tion to individual data presentations for each instrument technology show- ing the installed base, use of service contracts, and instrument purchases for 1991 (actual) and 1992 (antici- pated), distributions by lab characteristics (industry, geography, and application), pricing, and vendor are available. The results of the survey are pro- vided in both bound copy (summary data presentations only) and software versions. The menu-driven compu- terized program is self contained and allows users to perform their own in- quiries into the database. Analytical instrument users: 19914992 survey

This is the eighth year that Strategic Directions International (SDi) has conducted this survey among users of various analytical instrumentation. In addi- tion to individual data presentations for each instrument technology show- ing the installed base, use of service contracts, and instrument purchases for 1991 (actual) and 1992 (antici-

pated), distributions by lab characteristics (industry, geography, and application), pricing, and vendor are available.

The results of the survey are pro- vided in both bound copy (summary data presentations only) and software versions. The menu-driven compu- terized program is self contained and allows users to perform their own in- quiries into the database.

SPECINFO

A major addition to the cluster of chemical databases on STN is SPE- CINFO, a tool for carrying out structural analyses in the field of or- ganic chemistry. The SPECINFO database contains spectral data for a representative cross-section of organic chemistry including organometallic substances.

For each compound NMR and/or IR spectra are given. The data include

experimental conditions, e.g. instru- ment, solvent and temperature, and .bibliographic information. For NMR spectra coupling constants and relaxa- tion times are included, if available.

In addition to the spectral data for each compound, the following infor- mation on substance identification is given: SPECINFO Registry Number, molecular formula, molecular weight, chemical name.

The database is produced by Chemical Concepts GmbH, Wein- heim, Germany. SPECINFO replaces the C13-NMR/IR database on STN.

Elsevier’s 1992 Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Catalogue is now available
