ANALYSIS: PALLADIO’s VILLA ROTUNDAdue THURSDAY, Mar 07, beginning of class
Using a plan and section drawing of Villa Rotunda at 1/16”=1’, complete the following on individual layers of 11”x17” trace paper:
base drawing:
1. DRAFTED PLAN AND SECTION with multiple line weights. Construction lines mandatory, in pencil. Section cut uses thickest line. NO BLACK POCHE. Indicate section cut on the plan with a dash-dot-dash line and direction arrow.
analytical diagrams:
(use the legend from Precedents in Architectures as a guide for line-weight and hatch)
2. GEOMETRIC RELATIONSHIPS
3. SYMMETRY AND BALANCE
4. STRUCTURE
5. REPETITIVE TO UNIQUE
6. CIRCULATION TO USE-SPACE
7. SUMMARY PARTI (the whole & the parts)

PROJECT 2b
On 11x17 trace, combine the 4 horizontal and vertical analyses into a single COMPOSITE OBLIQUE at 1/16”=1’ scale.
Set up a 30/60 Plan Oblique with your base drawing.
The Composite Oblique should reveal your understanding of the overall heirachy, directions, and orientation of the Rotunda’s elements.

PROJECT 2c
At 1/16”=1’ scale, develop a synthesis model from the COMPOSITE OBLIQUE & SUMMARY PARTI that demonstrates your understanding of the hierachy, orientation, and directionality of the elements in the Villa Rotunda.
Think carefully about the modeling materials you use in the model. Materials and their dimensions and shapes imply direction.
