New Tools and Concepts for Fast Problem Solving

muTech’s InnovaTIons

The products developed by MuTech are a combination of new technologies in hardware and software with the purpose to cut costs and improve productivity and quality in IT and Telecoms industries.

Innovation is the most important word for MuTech, and IPXPlorer® is an example of multiple new ideas com-bined in the same product for the next decade net-works traffic and services. ASDR™ here presented is an example of this innovation.

asdr™: The comprehensIve deTaIls record

Application Service Details Record-ASDR™ is an ag-gregation of the procedures running at the different protocols layers to allow an application or service to be deployed from a supplier to a consumer.

ASDR™ concept is similar to the Call Details Record -CDR concepts for a call based service in Telephony or the IPDR in the data environment, with the difference that ASDR™ works for every type of services: voice, data –only, or video based. In some ways ASDR™ is the evo-lution of the CDR and IPDR concepts, merging and ex-tending them into one new concept.

MuTech has extended the Details Record fields by add-ing useful information for diagnostic, troubleshooting, network planning, QoS assessment, services, applica-tion and content delivery.

IPXPlorer® generates an Application Service Details Record-ASDR™--for each end-to-end communication at application level for the most significant services.

ASDR™ is aggregation of all the important information related to a session, or a call, or a service or an applica-tion running between two hosts or users. ASDR™ links all the xDR generated from 2 through layer 6 of ISO-OSI architecture. An ASDR™ also includes values for traffic exchanged, bandwidth utilization, connection dura-tion, quality, and possible communication problems.

IPXPlorer® products also provides standard IP, Calls, and Transaction Details Records (IPDR, CDR, and TDR) without aggregation into ASDR™, for backward export compatibility to existing systems.

An example of ASDR™ is represented by a complete VoIP session that generates an ASDR™ combining to-gether the IPDR for TCP connection between the hosts, the IPDR of SIP Agent registration to proxy, the CDR of the SIP call, and the IPDR generated by the RTP connec-tion carrying the voice packets.

ProTocols & servIces

Simultaneous analysis of different protocols over mul-tiple interfaces and technologies, such as:

IP-Datacomm: PPPoE, VLAN, UDP, TCP, RTP/RTCP, SCTP, RSVP, Multicast, and over 300 IP-based services including DNS, Radius, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IM.

Improve Productivity in Critical Success Areas

Plus ASDR™ contains the information about voice qual-ity score like MOS, the network and the application response time typical of IP sessions, and the IP impair-ments that may cause degradation of the quality.

If the User or Network Manager needs to see the VoIP traffic in terms of quantity and quality, it is sufficient to recall the VoIP ASDR™ and ask to MT-OS of IPXPlorer® to combine the data as call completion analysis, voice quality, traffic trend, and network response time to get a complete picture of the service delivery.

The alternative is combine manually, creating complex queries or accessing multiple sources data from xDR, with statistics from counters and QoS score from qual-ity analyzer, and finally link and correlate all together.

With IPXPlorer® all this job is not necessary and every-thing is made transparently to the User and instantly.

analysIs and resulTs

Result type varies from network performance, usage, and host-to-host, or user-to-user traffic, statistical analysis, dashboard with speed and performance indi-cators for the most active hosts, users, destinations, or top called-calling end points.

Traffic Breakdown for the most significant network and service parameters splits by host-device, application, site, and programmable groups.

Trend Analysis: This group is similar to Traffic but based on historical data that allow the operator to have a view of how events, parameters, and traffic figures are changing through a determined period.

IPDR generation for the most significant services trans-ported by the data stream. IPDR are components of ASDR™ (see the dedicated section).

Quality of Service scoring for Datacom, Voice, and Video over packet based on latency, response time and packets loss measurements, ITU G.107-EModel, and MDI RFC4445.

Over 3000 Key Performance Indicators -KPIs and pro-grammable aggregation are generated based on IPDR and ASDR™ for the alarming system.

Alarms: IPXPlorer® generates and dispatches alarms based on programmable conditions to the operator, a

centralized syslog server, or to the µQXManager Centrex Viewer Server.

Troubleshooting features such as protocol decodes and data stream correlation with graphical representation of end-to-end data flows.

Integration of data coming from NetFlow v5, v9, and IPFix providers.

Built-in reporting engine for graphical and tabular reports of the key statistical and analysis results. Reports are ex-portable in various standard formats such as pdf, cvs, and xml.

Multimedia streams analysis of live as well as playback of captured data for all the most popular codecs.

Data import and export to PCAP and ENC format files. Data recording on hard disk drives. Packets and Frames are stored in PCAP 2.4 format.

Data and Results Transfer between IPXPlorer® and exter-nal centralized system or server are handled by FTP or XML-RPC protocols over a dedicated Ethernet port.

All the models of IPXPlorer® can be integrated into the MIP-DMA “MuTech IP-Distributed Monitoring Architec-ture” as probes. With this configuration and together with the µQXManager Centrex Viewer Server, the User has sur-velliance and vision for the entire network.

IPXPlorer® fits into different scenarios such as the NGN area for Signalling, Media, and Trunk gateways analysis, troubleshooting

and Quality of Service verification.
