1. Check to see if the meter pointer is adjustedexactly to the mechanical zero position of the orV scale. If the pointer is in the zero position, turnthe zero adjust screw with a screwdriver.

2. Rotate the function switch to the "BATT. CHECK"position and press to test. Battery voltage issufficient when the meter pointer stays in "OK"position of the battery check scale. If not, replacewith the new batteries.

3. Rotate the function switch to "EARTH VOLTAGE"position and press to test. Earth voltage will beindicated on the ACV scale. When the earth voltageis more than 10V, it may result in errors in earthresistance measurement. Accurate earthresistance measurement may not be made.

5. Simplified earth resistance measurement method(1) This method is recommended where an earth

resistance higher than 10 is measured orwhere it is not possible to drive auxiliary earthspikes. An approximate value of earthresistance can be obtained by the two-wiresystem as shown in Fig. 2.

(2) Rotate the function switch to "EARTHVOLTAGE" position and press to test. Makecertain that earth voltage is less than 10V.

(3) First rotate the function switch to "x10" positionand press to test. Read earth resistance. If themeter pointer indicates over full scale, switchto "x100" position and read earth resistance.

(4) The reading obtained (Rx) is an approximateearth resistance value. There is no need forexternal shorting since P and C terminals areshorted by using the test leads specified for thesimplified measurement.

(5) Rx = Re - reRx = True Earth ResistanceRe = Indicated Valuere = Earth Resistance or Earth Electrode.

(6) Since the measuring current is as low as 2mA,the earth leakage breaker (ELCB) does not tripeven if the earth side of the commercial powersupply with an ELCB is used.

* Follow the proper connection as shown in Fig. 1.The LED (red) indicator will be lit. This provesthat a correct current circulation is under itsoperation.

4. Simplified earth resistance measurement method(1) This method is recommended where an earth

resistance higher than 10 is measured orwhere it is not possible to drive auxiliary earthspikes. An approximate value of earthresistance can be obtained by the two wiresystem where is shown in Fig. 4.

(2) Rotary to function switch to "EARTH VOLTAGE"position and press to test. Make certain thatearth voltage is less than 10V.

(3) First rotary the function switch to "200 "position and press to test, read earth resistance. If the display shows "1" (MSD), switch to"2000 " position and read earth resistance.

(4) The reading obtained (Rx) is an approximateearth resistance value. There is no need forexternal shorting as P and C terminals areshorted by using the test leads specified for theSimplified measurement.

5.MEASURING METHODSBEFORE PROCEEDING MEASUREMENT, READSAFETY NOTES ON PAGE 10.1. In proceeding with measurement, if " " symbol

appears on the display, replace with new batteries.

2. Rotary to function switch to "EARTH VOLTAGE"position and press to test. Earth voltage willdisplayed on the LCD. When earth voltage is morethan 10V, it may result in errors in earth resistancemeasurement. Accurate earth resistancemeasurement may not be made.

3. Precision earth resistance measurement method(1) Connect green, yellow and red test leads to

instrument terminals E, P and C with auxiliaryearth spikes P1, C1 stuck into earth "IN ASTRAIGHT LINE". (Fig. 3)

(2) Rotary the function switch to suitable rangethen press the pushbutton to test and take theReading.

(6) Since measuring current is as low as 2 mA, theearth leakage breaker (ELCB) does not tripeven if the earth side of the commercial powersupply with an ELCB is used.

Follow the proper connection such as Fig. 3, theLED(red) indicator will lit. This proves a correctcurrent circulation is under its operation.
