Tamil Speech Competition

12. In conjunction with the Tamil New Year Chittirai Vizha 2016, Clementi CC IAEC organised a Tamil Speech Competition for students in primary schools. Srivatssan Ayyasamy of class 2 Joy took

part in the competition. He spoke on the topic, ‘An Indian Festival I celebrated’ and away with the First

Prize! Congratulations, Srivatssan!

Up-coming events… SA 1 matters

13. All P3 – P6 students will be sitting for their SA 1. The time table for the SA 1 examinations,

including the topics to be tested, has been given to each child. Please guide your child in planning

his/her daily revision. As assessments are an integral part of the school curriculum, any absence from

school examinations must be supported by a medical certificate. As mentioned earlier, the school will

not administer make-up exam for students who are absent for written examination. Should your child

be unable to take the assessment due to valid reasons, please be assured that he/she will not be penalised

in this examination.

e-Learning Day cum Meet-the-Parents Session

14. Thursday, 26 May, is the school’s eLearning Day cum Meet-the-Parents Session. On this day,

all students do not report to school. Instead, they will access the school’s subscribed Learning

Management portal, MC Online, at their stipulated time, to learn and do the assigned work. This e-

learning exercise is also to ensure the school's readiness for Home-Based Learning (HBL) in the event

of an emergency.

15. For families who do not have computer and/or Internet access, your children may access the e-

learning in school. Our Computer laboratories 2 and 3 will be opened that day from 8.00 am to 3.00 pm.

The e-learning instructions and information will be disseminated to all students through their respective

form teachers nearer the date.

16. The day is set aside for parents to meet with their child’s teachers to discuss his/her progress

and to collect his/her Report Book. You will receive an invitation from your child’s form teacher nearer

the date. Please indicate on the response slip any alternative arrangement if you are unable to meet the

teachers on the date set aside for this event.

17. Incidentally, our Learning Management portal is available 24/7 for access. Students can keep

up with their lessons at home by logging in to access the fun and interactive online resources for English,

Mother Tongue, Mathematics and Science at their own time.

Swimming Carnival

18. Our 14th Swimming Carnival will be held on Friday, 27 May, in the morning at the Clementi Swimming Complex. The Guest-of-Honour for the occasion is Mr Kalai Vanen, the 2015 ASEAN Para

Games powerlifter, who became a para-athlete after losing his left leg to cancer nearly 30 years ago.

19. The carnival caters to students of various swimming competencies. For the strong swimmers,

they will compete in races such as the 50-metres Breast Stroke, Freestyle and Back Stroke, and provide

them a chance to see who is the fastest in the water. There will also be exciting water games such as the

Flippa Ball (a game similar to water polo) and Telematch (made up of a Treasure Hunt and Obstacle

Course) for the non-swimmers. The water games will be played in the 1-metre deep training pool.

20. As the venue is unable to accommodate all the students from the school, we will only be inviting

P3 and P4 students as spectators. A separate letter will be issued through your child. All P1, P2 and P5

students who are non-participants need not report to school on that day. P6 students will report to school

as usual for their lessons.

Open House

21. We are holding an Open House on Saturday, 16 July, from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm, on our school

premises. This is a good platform for the school to share with the community our facilities, programmes

and achievements. Through this effort, we hope to maintain increasing student intake at the P1

registration for admission in 2017. If you know of friends who are considering a school to register their

child in, do work with us to recommend QtPS to them.

Events

22. Please refer to Annex 1 for the calendar of events (COE) for the month of May. You can also

access it at our website, http://www.queenstownpri.moe.edu.sg/others/coe-for-parents.

Concluding Remarks…

“Positive thoughts generate positive feelings and attract positive life experiences.”

~ Anonymous

23. Indeed, our thoughts create our moods and our emotions, shaping our lives, for good or bad.

Whatever situations we are in is a direct result of what we thought. Parents, work with us to encourage

our children to be positive thinkers who see potential and to turn obstacles into opportunities.

24. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all mothers and fathers, a blessed and happy

Mother’s Day & Father’s Day! Thank you and have a wonderful month ahead!

Mrs Grace Chua Mrs Helen Tan Mdm Poon Pei Ping Principal Vice-Principal Vice-Principal

“MOMMY & DAD,

I’M PROUD OF YOU!” This was the response Chan Yi Jun (P4 Joy) gave

when he was asked about his feeling knowing that

both his parents are leaders in QtPSG.

“Do you like them involve in your school?

“Yes. I get to see them in school. I know they

organize things (activities) and they work with a team of parents.”

“Do you want to be a leader someday?”

“Yes, because I get to help others, including my friends, families & charities.”

Christopher Chan is the Team Manager for Fathers@QtPS & Selina Wee is the Exco for AMRead.
