Junior High- Another week another good performance by the Jr. High Cross Country team. They finished as a team with a total score of 59 which was low enough to get them third place. Chapel Hill and Bland finished ahead of them this week. Jacob Watts won the race with a time of 12 min-utes and 1 second, Alberto Serrano was on his heals again finishing 3rd with a time of 12 minutes and 25 seconds. Brennon Sey-more came in 7th place with a time of 13 minutes and 12 seconds. Isaac Foley and Turner South rounded out the team with Isaac finishing 23rd overall with a 14 min-ute and 23 second finish and Turner finish-ing 24th overall with a 14 minute and 24 second finish. I was really proud of the boys coming out and performing well at this meet. This meet had different ele-ments that came into play during the race that made it challenging but our boys stepped up and rose to the occasion. Assistant coach Dylan Foster did a really good job helping me out and keeping the times and motivation of the boys up. High School- We did not have enough for a team this week but we had four individuals that showed up ready to run and performed really well. Thomas took 3rd place overall in the JV race with a time of 21 minutes and 35 seconds. Joseph Granack finished with a time of 26 minutes and 16 seconds, Hudson Northcutt finished with a time of 26 minutes and 53 seconds, and Dillon Huie finished with a time of 33 minutes and 25 sec-onds. I was really proud of these boys for showing up and competing. It shows heart to come out and compete every week instead of taking the easy way out. This race the elements played a huge role. Ten minutes into the race the bottom fell out of the sky and turned half the race into a mud slide. The boys shifted into 4X4 and finished strong. On Saturday, September

28, the Cross Country boys will compete in Mt. Pleasant at the Titus County Fair Invitational.

Mrs. Brown reports that it was a successful book fair. Books and

supplies sold totaled $1589.95. This translates to 50 new books

for our library plus Scholastic Dollars left over to begin purchas-

ing books in the spring also when the library will hold another

Book Fair. “Thanks to all who participated in our Book Fair. It

It’s Worth Shouting About

PTO Begins Year With

$13,269.89 New by-laws have been put into place by the Sulphur Bluff Parent-Teacher

Organization. If you would like a copy, the PTO will be happy to provide

you with one at their next meeting. They also will be amending the scholar-

ship section later.

Much new business was discussed. The Pumpkin Patch is Friday, October

18, 2013. PTO NEEDS volunteers. Set up is on Thursday, October 17.

The Halloween Carnival is October 25, 2013. Each class through 6th

grade will have a basket for the silent/live auction. These baskets need per-

sonal touches. Make them themed and get the kids involved. The auction

will be during intermission of Bingo. PTO will need donations of baked

goods and Bingo prizes for the carnival. The junior class will be in charge

of the stew. Five dollars from each class will pay for clean-up of the school

after the carnival. Teachers will need to have a booth. The teachers will

have the option for either 10% of their booth funds will go to PTO or 50%

of the basket will go to PTO. Teachers are also responsible for prizes at

their booth. Tickets for the carnival will be sold for a week before the carni-

val so that you can save if you buy early.

There will be a BBQ Sack Lunch sale at Fix and Feed in either October or

November.

PTO is buying a snow cone machine for $476 at Sam’s. There will be a

$10 usage fee to replenish syrups.

PTO will have Family Fun Nights with Pizza Bingo and Movie Nights.

They are holding contests for kids for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

They will decorate a Feather for Thanksgiving, a candy cane for Christmas,

and an Easter egg for Easter. Students can also look forward to a Father-

Daughter Dance and a Valentine’s Day Dance. A talent show was also

discussed.

The funding of AR parties through 8th grade and providing funds per child

for either $10 or $15 was tabled until the next meeting.

The PTO will be purchasing a big book easel for grades PK-K.

PTO will be helping to purchase two new Promethean boards—one for

Mrs. Moore’s classroom and one for Mrs. Wheat’s classroom. Mr. McCul-

lough said that he appreciates the partnership and support PTO has shown

to the school in helping to provide this technology for our students.
