DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF SERVICESPre-Inspection and Post Inspection InterviewAMETEK Solidstate Controls will meet with the plant personnel to review any observations they have witnessed concerning the system’s performance to determine if any abnormal operations or conditions occurred. Any abnormal conditions or operations will be considered during the inspection and testing. Upon completion of each visit, we will review the service results with the client.

Detailed Service ReportWe will document the results of the service visit with a detailed service report that will be provided to the client. This report will include all recorded voltage and current readings as well as any issues found with recommended corrective actions.

Visual InspectionWe inspect the system for evidence of wear, heat related stress, damage, loose or failed components due to aging, vibration or other environmental conditions. We will either correct abnormal conditions during the Preventive Maintenance (PM) or review them with the client and schedule them for repair.

Annual Scheduled Parts ReplacementThrough our testing, field experience and supplier recommendations, we have developed a replacement schedule for critical components subject to aging or wear. To assure optimum performance and reliability of the UPS system, we recommend replacement of critical components as indicated in the table below. Adverse operating conditions may require accelerating some of the time intervals to fit a particular site’s needs.

Our remote expertise offers quick and clear communications and can help reduce downtime.

System Operational and Functional TestingWe measure and record all critical system parameters, including input/output voltages and currents for control circuits, alternate and primary power sources, charger, inverter and static switch output. We will either repair abnormal conditions during the PM or review with the client and schedule for repair. With the client’s permission, the following functional tests will be performed: • Battery Chargers – Float/Equalize functions, load share function and alarm functions • Inverter/Static Switches – Static Switch automatic transfer function, alarm function, manual

bypass transfer function and any other functional test deemed necessary by the service engineer to verify proper operation

• Infrared Scanning/Thermal Imaging – Infrared scan and thermal imaging will provide the client a complete analysis and detailed report of the integrity of all electrical connections within the critical power bus

Visual Battery Inspection and Cell Voltage ReadingsComprehensive annual battery inspection and analysis completed in accordance with applicable ANSI/IEEE and the battery manufacturer recommendations. All critical parameters are measured, recorded and given in a detailed report.

Battery Continuity TestWith the client’s permission, we will perform a battery continuity test, which disconnects the battery charger and allows the battery to discharge into the inverter or site load momentarily.

Inter-cell Resistance and Specific GravityMeasuring inter-cell resistance and specific gravity can be very valuable in determining overall battery bank conditions. We will measure the inter-cell resistance to indicate when a faulty connection exists between cells. Specific gravity, when coupled with our battery inspection, gives a more complete picture of what’s going on inside of each battery cell, which is helpful in determining the most appropriate corrective action for battery cells in questionable health.

System AC Load TestingSystem AC load testing provides the client a complete performance test of the critical power system including, Static Switch, Inverter, Charger and Battery and other connected power distribution equipment.

Battery Capacitance Discharge TestingBattery discharge testing is the only definitive way to determine the condition and state of health of the entire battery system. The Solidstate Controls Battery Capacity Discharge Test (CapTest) provides the highest degree of assurance that the battery can sustain the load as designed and the critical power system will function reliably in the event of a power outage. The CapTest will test the battery against published manufacturer discharge curves and verify both the electrical and chemical integrity of the battery bank. Battery discharge performance is temperature compensated to IEEE standards and a detailed, comprehensive battery report including individual cell profile, performance analysis, final results and conclusions will be provided to the client.
