Career AdviceChoose your recruiter carefullyEmployment agencies and recruiters come in all shapes and sizes and can vary greatly in quality. Choose to work with a company that you, or colleagues, or friends have had a good experience with.

Beware of the practice of some less ethical companies in sending out your resume to companies without your knowledge. Always insist that recruiters have your permission to send out your resume to a prospective employer, whether it be a specific or speculative approach.

At Ambition, we specialise in a few functional disciplines and work ethically and professionally so that we can provide you, the job seeker, with informed and objective job search and career management advice.

Help us to help youRecruiters are in the business to help candidates with their job search and the ‘easier’ you are to help, the more likely they are to spend time assisting you with your job search. Help them, and yourself, by having a good understanding of your own strengths and weaknesses, your career goals and job search preferences. This will enable your recruiter to find a company and job that would be the best fit for you and will help minimise the frustrations and mismatched expectations that come with many job searches.

Stay in regular contact with the recruiterIt is important that you take responsibility by having a ‘contact program’, whereby you call your recruiter at least once every three months. Your recruiter can advise on market trends, skills in demand and salary movements.
