Alumni Association Regional Chapter Task Team Members Eastern Cape Chapter Co-ordinator, Michelle Merle Mbaco, Email: [email protected] Michelle completed a Higher Diploma in Education: Commerce, from the erstwhile Peninsula Technikon and has been involved in education for the past 25 years. She currently works at the Eastern Cape Department of Education: PE District office. Michelle believes in the importance of constantly improving oneself and to that end has completed a Master’s Degree in Development Studies from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in 2012. Prior to this, she completed a Diploma in Labour Law from the Graduate Institute of Management and Technology and a Certificate in Project Management with Varsity College. She also holds a BComm degree from NMMU (2005). Michelle is a team player, believes in working collectively and prides herself on her integrity. As testimony to this, she was invited to serve on the Social and Ethics committee of the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) during 2013, is a member of NMMU: Development Studies Advisory Council and is serving as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Board COMANCO (Community Growth Management Company) - an investment company. She is also the proud mother of two handsome sons, Marvin and Larry.

Alumni Association Regional Chapter Task Team Members

Eastern Cape Chapter Co-ordinator, Michelle Merle Mbaco, Email: [email protected]

Michelle completed a Higher Diploma in Education: Commerce, from the erstwhile Peninsula Technikon and has been involved in education for the past 25 years. Unathi Cakana

Unathi Cakana has a BTech Degree in Quality Management (2005) and a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (2004). In 2003 she was awarded a Merit Award by the Department of Physical Sciences for being an overall top student for semester two, and currently works as a Process Technician at BASF-Chemical Company in Port Elizabeth. In this role she leads and gives technical support to the slurry preparatory process. She started at BASF as a Laboratory Technician in the Quality Department, were she did analysis of products and raw materials for compliance with product specifications, before being selected for her current role as Process Technician. When asked about her career success, Unathi says she’s the lady who always puts her hand up to contribute. She has volunteered for every opportunity that came along - more out of a desire to learn and gain new experience than to get noticed. She stresses that the best way to stand out is by doing a great job at whatever it is you’re currently involved in. This is still true for Unathi today, who says that she strives to be the most effective, most collaborative, and most results-driven leader she can be. Willie Blunden

Willie studied at Peninsula Technikon in the early eighties, graduating with a Diploma in Public Health. He began working as an Environmental Health Officer in the Vryburg Municipality. He is currently employed at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality as an Assistant Director. In 2003 he completed an LLB degree from Vista University and in 2004 was admitted as an advocate in the High Court of South Africa. He is very involved in the promotion of rugby as a means to uplift the community.

Sandra Hewitt

Sandra graduated from Peninsula Technikon in 1987 with the Higher Diploma: Education. She began her teaching career at John Bisseker High School, moving on to Buffalo City College where she now occupies the position of Academic Manager: Business, East London campus. Sandra also believes in life-long learning and has completed a B.Ed Honours in Whole School Management. She is currently studying her Masters in Curriculum Development through NMMU and her passions are education, community work and reading. Naomi Matroos

Naomi graduated from Peninsula Technikon in 1989 with a Higher Diploma in Education: Commerce and currently works as a Senior Lecturer at Buffalo City Public FET College in East London. Naomi was a brilliant hockey player, and in 1988 was chosen as Pentech’s Sports Woman of the Year. Naomi also represented SATISA (South African Tertiary Institutions Sports Association) in hockey in 1988 and was captain & coach of the ladies hockey team. Naomi obtained her BEd(Hons) degree at NMMU in 2012, loves travelling and sport. Nomthandazo Nonzinyana

Nomthandazo graduated with a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry from CPUT in 2006. She’s currently employed as a Laboratory Technician at BASF SA in Port Elizabeth.

Gauteng Chapter Co-ordinator, Phumie Mayongo, Email: [email protected]

Phumie proudly defines himself as a student by nature, an administrator by profession and a “deep -house” music enthusiast by soul. He holds a ND in Office Management and Technology (OMT) and completed his BTech in OMT in 2010. Phumie is currently a Senior Training Officer in Legal Education and Development at the Law Society of South Africa. His previous vocational experience is Training Administrator at the CPUT as well as HIV/AIDS Peer Education and Training Officer. Mpelo Skhwatha

Mpelo holds a National Diploma in Plastics Technology. He is currently working for Nissan South Africa as Senior Process Engineer in Pretoria at the Rosslyn Plant and is busy pursuing his MBA studies with Mancosa. Mpelo is a firm believer of giving back to the community, and is therefore excited about his involvement in the AA regional chapter. He believes the leadership skills he honed in student politics as COSAS WC chairperson and SASCO branch chairperson at the former Cape Technikon will help to build a bigger alumni family and better the lives of those less fortunate. Mpelo was awarded a leadership colours certificate by Cape Technikon for his involvement in the merger process in 2004. He states that this merger has created a beautiful institution – the CPUT - which continues to produce graduates who are developing South Africa from a technological, environmental, political and economic point of view.

Jacqui Pietersen

Jacqui graduated with a National Diploma in Journalism from the former Peninsula Technikon. She currently works as the Senior Alumni Officer at the University of Pretoria and was previously a Communication Specialist at Tswane University of Technology. Vuyo Zita

Vuyo holds a BTech in Taxation and his professional experience includes working for Agile Software. He is described as humble but firm and assertive, qualities Vuyo displayed as a member of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at CPUT for the year 2010. Jeffrey Francis Jeff, as he is fondly known, holds a ND and a BTech in Marketing, which he completed in 1999 at the former Peninsula Technikon. Jeff is a successful business man and franchise owner of Total South Africa PTY, LTD. He describes himself as a very family-oriented man.

Western Cape Chapter

Co-ordinator, Thabang Maapane Bogale, Email: [email protected]

Thabang is currently studying for his BTech in Information and Technology Management (ITM). In 2008/9 he was the Chairperson of Catsville Residence House Committee and an HIV/AIDs Peer Educator in the residence. He volunteered during the Fifa 2010 World Cup at the Green Point Stadium and was the treasurer of the South African Student Congress’ (SASCO) Cape Town Branch. He worked at the Library as Student Assistant (IT support) between 2010 and 2012 where he was honoured by the Director of CPUT Libraries with a Merit Certificate for excellent service. Thabang describes himself as a team player who is very ambitious and passionate about community development. He is currently involved in the CPUT Alumni Community Engagement Project where he is co-ordinating the ICT section of the project. Junae Damon

Junae completed her BTech Management degree in 2009 at CPUT. She is currently working at Media24 and is studying towards an Accounting degree at UNISA. She describes herself as an enthusiastic individual who is always eager for new challenges. Edison Mutematemi

Edison is a Zimbabwean born teacher who describes himself as a hardworking individual who has an irresistible appetite for taking calculated risks! He enjoys brainstorming business ideas and holds a ND in Entrepreneurship from the CPUT. He is currently studying towards a BTech in Entrepreneurship.

Tsidi Malapane

Tsidi is a junior Lecturer at CPUT and is currently studying towards an MTech in Internal Auditing. Her previous experience includes working at Deloitte’s as a Tax Consultant and a Creditors Clerk at Eskom. It was here that she developed an interest in organisational development, strategic planning and professional networking. Tsidi is very passionate about “Women in Leadership” and has been a mentor since 2010. Since her student days, she has been a member and active leader of the Post Graduate Student Association (POGSA) and Student Christian Organisation. Gourmet cooking is Tsidi’s sure-fire remedy to forget stress and promote relaxation. Thembani Mzekeli Thembani hails from the Eastern Cape and holds a ND and BTech in Electrical Engineering. He is passionate about leadership and service, qualities that he demonstrated while he an active member of student Christian movements on campus. Thembani holds fond memories of student life and the camaraderie he enjoyed whilst living in Catsville residence. He currently works for his bursar, Eskom, in Cape Town. Kevin Luzuko

Kevin is a very enthusiastic pre-Alumni (current student at the CPUT) who works very closely with Edison and Thabang to build a strong Western Cape Chapter. Kevin is studying towards his National Diploma in Accountancy.

Louise Bowley

Louise studied a Diploma in Hospitality Management from 1999-2001 and currently works as an online English teacher at Pangea. Previously, Louise has written reports for PMG at Parliament, been a cook for a private individual and has volunteered at Valkenberg Hospital, helping with an art project for the patients. Louise was proud to win the Entrepreneurship Award when she attended the Louis Group Business Academy in 2006. She is passionate about empowering people to fulfil their potential and to show them that anything is possible! Louise aims to help empower the disenfranchised in the future and to study further in Teaching and Psychology.

Namibian Chapter Co-ordinator, Menesia Muinjo (nee Samuehls), Email: [email protected]

Menesia has a National Diploma in Journalism from the former Pentech and is a veteran journalist in Namibian broadcasting, boasting over 20 years of broadcasting experience in both radio and TV. She used to report for the then CNN World Report Programme and had an opportunity to work alongside the CNN World Report team in the US in 1999 though the CNN International Professional Programme Training opportunity. Menesia is quite the globe-trotter, having travelled to almost all the continents, mainly reporting on Namibia’s Founding State President, Dr Sam Nujomas’ official engagements and other international affairs. Apart from local and international reporting, Menesia has anchored Prime Time News on national television and was the first to present news in Oshiwambo on TV in an independent Namibia. Menesia started off her broadcasting career as a student journalist in 1991 and moved swiftly through the ranks to become General Manager, News and Current Affairs, for both Radio and TV, a position she held for six years. She was appointed General Manager Commercial Services in 2009, responsible for the selling of airtime on both radio and TV and the overall revenue generation for the NBC, a position now known as Head of Sales. She is currently studying for her Masters in Business Administration at the University of Steinbeis, Berlin, Germany. Abraham Camm

Abraham Camm has a B Tech degree in Environmental Health Science and currently works as Head: Environmental Health at the City of Windhoek in Namibia. He also serves as a member of the Curriculum Advisory Board for the Environmental Health Science Programme, and is a moderator at the Polytechnic of Namibia. Abraham also serves as deputy chairperson of the technical committee of the National Standards Institution on Food Safety, a state-owned agency of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the Namibian government. Abraham says that after all these years of serving the Namibian nation in the field of environmental health science, he still believes much can be done to improve the health and living conditions of the public, workers and communities of Namibia in general.

Ndinomholo Hamatui

Ndinomholo Hamatui has a BTech in Environmental Health Sciences and is a Junior Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Health at the Polytechnic of Namibia. She is passionate about public health, with a research interest and focus in occupational health and food safety. She is dedicated to improving occupational health in Namibia by raising public awareness of the importance of workers’ safety. She conducts Industrial Health and Safety awareness training and also helps with health and safety compliance. Peter Denk

41 years old and married with three kids, Peter describes himself as a career journalist, having worked for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation since graduating from the erstwhile Peninsula Technikon in 1993. He currently holds the position of Head of TV Current Affairs at the NBC. Peter has a passion for reading and writing and his favourite authors include Jeffery Deaver and Ian Rankin. He’s also fascinated by new media and its impact on how we communicate. Peter loves the outdoors, a wide variety of music and a bit of adventure. Esther Haixwema

Esther worked as a Radio and TV journalist for the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) before obtaining a National Diploma in Journalism in 2006. She has also worked with the Municipality of Walvis Bay as a Communications Officer, charged with internal and external communication for the council and providing support and advice on media related issues. In 2008, Esther moved back to Windhoek to work with the Namibian Power Utility, NamPower, as an Editorial Assistant in the Marketing and Corporate Communication division. In 2012, she was

promoted to the position of Publications Officer, a position she holds to date. Esther is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and is currently studying toward a Chartered Public Relations Certificate through PRISA.

Northern Cape Chapter Co-ordinator, Seamogelo Charity Gaosenkwe, Email: [email protected]

Seamogelo holds a BTech degree in Environmental Health (2003) and is currently employed by Sedibeng Water as a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Officer. Her responsibility includes implementing the NOSA 5 Star Integrated System, facilitating HIV/AIDS programmes, conducting SHE risk and impact assessments and promoting other SHE programmes. She is the secretary of the Sedibeng Water Sports Club in the Northern Cape region. Seamogelo has also completed a Senior Management Programme in 2011, and Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration in 2012. She is an active member of the Institute of Safety Management. Nkululeko Moses Maya (right)

Nkululeko holds a MTech: Quality and ND: Electrical Engineering (2000 and 2011) and describes himself as a highly motivated, driven individual. He has 7 years of Technical and SHEQ Audit and 8 years of control plant technology experience, with an emphasis on Medium Voltage Technologies, plus 3 years of Technology and Quality engineer experience. He has a passion for quality management, continuous improvement, innovation and mentorship and is equally enthused by Renewable Energy. He is currently managing provincial technical audits and provincial Quality Management Systems.

Wilfred Jacques Sell

Wilfred lives in Kimberley and studied HDE (Commerce) as part of the class of 1996. He has been Principal at Waterworks Primary since January 2012, a shop steward at Naptosa, Northern Cape in the years 2010 -2011 and Chairperson of this body from 2007 to 2010. He is a member of the Examination and Assessment Board for the province and a member of the Provincial QLTC Steering Committee. Kerileng Patience Modise

Patience has a BTECH: Public Management & BTECH: Environmental Health (2003, 2004) and is currently the Safety, Health and Environment Manager at Eskom in Kimberley. She describes herself as a hard worker, fast learner and team player and is passionate about the safety of Eskom employees and the public. Patience is an HIV/AIDS Helper and is trained as a researcher, public speaker and educator in HIV/AIDS. Keakantse Sophia Sehunelo

Keakantse Sophia graduated with a ND: Cost and Management Accounting in 2007 and currently works as a financial clerk in management accounting at the South African Social Security Agency. She describes herself as loyal, hard-working and confident. In her free time she enjoys watching TV and playing soccer and cricket and loves listening to music and reading.

Free State Chapter Co-ordinator, June Mapoe, Email: [email protected]

June graduated in 1993 with a Higher Diploma in Education and is currently a teacher at Dr Blok Secondary School in Heidedal in Bloemfontein. She is also a Director/Owner of REEL Projects, a building and civil contractor and a Director/Owner at Top2Toe Safety Consulting. Gustav Dramat

Gustav has a Higher Diploma in Education, Commerce (HDE COM IV) and also graduated from UOVS in 2010 with an B.Ed (Hons) in Educational Management. Gustav is currently a teacher at Dr Blok Secondary School in Heidedal, Bloemfontein. Mark Peterze

Mark graduated in 1990 with a National Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering and is currently Technical Director: Infrastructure at ILISO Consulting in Bloemfontein. Mark has been a member of the Chamber of Engineering Technology since 1998 and is registered as a Professional Engineering Technician with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

Hanneke du Toit

IT specialist, Hanneke, graduated in 1989 with a National Diploma in IT and currently works for Telkom as a Telkom Ambassador. Hanneke’s focus is to increase revenue and business by helping Telkom clients to manage their accounts, build relationships and improve client services. She says she wants to achieve higher than the normal standards in life – which she certainly did after being awarded the Spotlight Award for her outstanding achievements in 2011. Charlotte van Wyk

Charlotte obtained her National Diploma in Commercial Administration in 2001 and currently works as an Admin Officer in the Procurement division of SAPS. Charlotte is furthering her studies through Unisa where she is doing a BTech in HR Management. She likes reading, puzzles and scrapbooking. Jeremy George Basson

Jeremy graduated with a National Diploma in Horticulture in 1998 and is currently the Chief Horticulturist at Mangaung Metro Municipality. Jeremy is responsible as for the Botshabelo and Thaba Nchu regions, maintaining five formal soccer fields, nineteen parks, and twenty cemeteries in the two areas. Matthews Andile Kwagile graduated in 2010 with a National Diploma in Human Resource Management. He is employed as a Quality Manager and Engineer Representative at Bigen Africa, a company that develops sustainable infrastructure development solutions.

Teboho Johannes Macholo obtained his National Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting in 1999. And finally, Mahlaku Ntjele Malahleha

Mahlaku graduated with a BTech in Civil Engineering in 2000. He works as a Director in Bloemfontein, where he uses his experience in the design of rural roads, tender documentation, site supervision, contract administration and project management.
