Why Aluminum Alloys?

• Abundant element of 8% on earth crust and normally found in oxide forms (Al2O3), i.e., bauxite, kaolinite, nepheline and alunite.

• Found in United states, Italy, France.• Have not been found in Thailand but in

Malaysia, Vietnam

Wrought and cast aluminum

• An alloy that is wrought is one that is worked by being forged or hammered.

• A cast alloy is when the molten alloy is poured into a mold to give it its shape, and has very little strength.

A wrought alloy is stronger as it has been worked, pounded into shape. It may have been heated and then cooled slowly to anneal it to make it stronger. Between working it and annealing it the molecules are brought closer together giving it more strength.
