OFFICE EVACUATION PROCEDURES AND DIAGRAMS
Procedures
Always identify where your primary and secondary escape route is located.
Acclimate yourself to your surroundings in case it becomes dark. For example, how many desks do
you need to feel before you get to the emergency exit?
Observe and act on all fire alarms, drills and/or any emergency announcements broadcast over the
office public address system.
After hearing a fire alarm or an announcement to evacuate the building, exit using the stairway
closest to your location. Do not use the elevators.
Fire Wardens have been designated to ensure that everyone is evacuated from a floor area and
subsequent floor, when necessary and direct people to clear stairwells.
Exit through the main entrance/east side of the building and proceed to the Argos designated area
(see diagram on page 9). If the main entrance is blocked, then exit out of the rear doors/west side and get
as far away from the building as possible (minimum of 100 yards), before heading to the meeting point.
Evacuation diagrams of the office appear on page 8.
Drills are conducted annually as required by law. You must evacuate at the sound of any
emergency fire alarm. Don’t assume it’s not real.
Office Guidelines
Keep stairwell doors closed at all times. Don’t prop stairwell fire doors open.
Don’t bring combustible liquids into the building.
Do not use space heaters.
Do not use extension cords for permanent applications.
Power strips must have a surge protector.

FIRE SAFETY
Fire Evacuation Procedures
This policy is to acknowledge and plan for an evacuation resulting from fire, fire alarm or other
evacuation emergencies. The policy affects all Argos employees and visitors on the third floor of the
Alpharetta Office Building.
The following designated Fire Wardens are responsible to ensure that all employees evacuate
immediately:
In the event of an emergency evacuation or a fire alarm
1. Begin Evacuation Procedures upon activation of fire light/strobe units or hearing an
announcement to evacuate.
2. Fire Wardens expedite evacuation procedures
3. Heavy smoke and poisonous gases collect first along the ceiling. Remember, “Stop,
Drop and Roll” -- Stay low to the floor, below the smoke, and exit the building via the
closest stairway as quickly and as calmly as possible. Cover your nose and mouth
with a wet cloth.
4. When approaching a closed door, use the back of your hand and forearm to feel the
lower, middle and upper parts of the door. If it is not hot, brace yourself against the
door and open it slowly. If it is hot to the touch, do not open the door—seek an
alternate escape route.
5. A headcount is to be conducted by appropriate supervisory personnel, once everyone
has met in the designated area.
6. Notify a Fire Warden or Emergency Personnel if you discover someone missing or if
anyone had to stay in the stairwell.
7. Wait for an “all clear” announcement made by the Fire Department, a member of the
Floor (Fire) Wardens

o Assist disabled people and/or those in need of extra assistance to the stair
well. They may not be able to go down the stairs but the stairwell has firewalls
and doors to protect them. Do not leave them alone; however ensure
someone notifies the fire department where they are located.
o Close the doors behind you to prevent the fire from spreading.
Be alert for any information regarding the emergency.
Instruct people of the following:
o Go down the stairs and stay against the wall.
o Hold onto the handrails.
o Do NOT panic.
o Do NOT jeopardize your safety under any circumstances.
o After exiting move to your designated area in the parking lot. Make sure your
employees take this seriously and do not wander or linger at the exterior
doors. Be aware of the possibility of falling glass.
Ensure people meet at designated evacuation area and/or keep at least 100 yards from
entrance of the building, leaving access open for emergency vehicles and personnel.
Conduct a survey of all employees to verify they are in attendance. Notify the fire
department if anyone is missing or if anyone was unable to leave the building.
Evacuate and remain outside until “all clear” is made by the Fire Department, a member of
the Emergency Action Team or the fire warden.
