Dear Quilting Friends, Greetings from all of us at the store! I know some of you don’t like to see summer end, but I always welcome the change of seasons. Maybe it comes from living in Phoenix for 16 years, where you often couldn’t remember whether it was spring, summer, fall, or winter without looking at the calendar (except on those 110-degree days!). I even look forward to the end of daylight savings time, because it hints at those winter nights when you can hear the wind howling outside and you can hunker down indoors with a sewing project or a good book. I’m sure I’ll have something different to say about how much I love the different seasons the first time we a have below-zero day or 10” of snow and ice, but right now it sounds fun and exciting. Just as the weather is changing, so is our newsletter. If all goes as planned, this will be our last quarterly newsletter. Instead, we will be sending much shorter but more frequent emails (not more than once a week). We hope to start these later this year. They will highlight things that have just arrived in the store, events coming up in the next few days, sales and spontaneous specials, etc. Our class schedule will still be published on a quarterly basis, and we’ll include a link to the schedule in our regular email. We hope you’ll like the change! As always, thank you for your business. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Best of the Bitsy Chicks – Several of our teammates, former teammates, and customers participate

in a small group called the Bitsy Chicks. Each quarter, the members make a quilt based on a theme chosen by the hostess. After their quarterly meeting, they bring the quilts to Creekside Quilting, where they are displayed until the next batch comes in. Their quilts are absolutely spectacular and our customers always enjoy the display. During the quilt show, we’ll have approximately 50 of the best quilts on display. You will be overwhelmed!

We Were Soldiers – Veterans’ Memorial Quilt by Valerie Funk, Debbie Edwards & Carla Black

Local quilt artist, pattern designer, author, and teacher Angela Lawrence (a member of our staff) is sharing more of her quilts with us in a special exhibit during the show. While we regularly feature her work in the store, this will be your chance to see old favorites and new things that we haven’t had before.

Trunk Show by Applique After Hours (Angela Lawrence)

Even if you are a “regular” here, give it your best to get in here during the show to see this breath-taking quilt! I had heard about it before I saw it, and it still moved me to tears. The emotional expression in this quilt is beyond my ability to put into words. No matter how you feel about our nation’s current or past wars, we are all patriots when it comes to appreciating the sacrifices of our military men and women. Designed, pieced, and quilted by Valerie Funk with help from Debbie and Carla, the quilt will be raffled to raise funds for a veterans’ memorial in the town square of Osceloa. Excess funds will be used to help fund the needs of veterans. Valerie and her group will be with the quilt (at least most of the time); you can purchase a raffle ticket from them if you’d like.

After home-schooling her four children, she wanted to work outside the home again. Lucky us! She’s looking forward to getting to know all of you, so introduce yourself when you’re in.
