SUMMER READING for ALL STUDENTS

ALL STUDENTS will engage in outside reading during the summer. ALL STUDENTS will be tested on the summer reading during the first week of school.

ENGLISH 11 All English 11 students must read ONE of two books: § The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown OR § The Roosevelt Women by Betty Carroll

ENGLISH 11 HONORS § All English 11 Honors students must read The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. AND § All English 11 Honors students should then select ONE of the following books to read as well:

- Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt

- Escape from Camp 14 by Blaine Harden

- Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly

- The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien

Students will participate in class discussions on the books they read during the summer. After the discussions, each student will write an essay on the book he/she chose. Students will fill out a Major Works Data Sheet on the second book. The data sheet requires the student to identify particular elements in the novel.
