All-District Band Audition – District 12 – Harp DATE: The audition will be held on the same day as the wind/percussion audition. This is usually the first Saturday in January at McLean High School. ELIGIBILITY: In order to be eligible to participate in this audition, you must be a regularly performing member of BAND PROGRAM in your school. You also should be sure before you audition that you can participate in the All-District Band Event, usually held over the first weekend in February. See the Band Director at your school for specific dates and questions regarding your eligibility. REGISTRATION: You are required to register for this audition through the Band Director at your school. This happens in October each year. Please see the Band Director at your school for more specific details about their registration process. TIME: You will be assigned a block that corresponds to an audition time. You will check in at the registration table for Harp and proceed to the warm-up area until your number is called. This is a blind audition process. RESULTS: No results will be posted the day of the audition. You will receive the results directly from your Band Director. AUDITION MATERIALS: All Harp auditions will include two scales, a prepared etude performance, and a sight-reading performance. Your score will be determined in the following way: 20% - Major and Melodic Minor Scales 40% - Sight-Reading 40% - Prepared Etude SCALES: You will be asked to perform two scales, each worth 10% of your overall score. The two scales will be chosen from: All 12 Major Scales Melodic Minor Scales – up to 3# and 3b All Scales Must Be memorized and played in quarter notes at mm = 120. Tempo will be provided. Scales should be played at least two octaves. SIGHT-READING: You will have one minute to tune and study the Sight-Reading selection before you perform it.
