Alfred Music Announces

New Educational Classroom Resources

Los Angeles, CA—July 2014Alfred Music, the world’s leader in educational print music products, announces the release and distribution of new educational resources for the classroom.

Accessing Music explores alternative and creative ways to assist special needs students in the musical classroom, allowing them to achieve their best individual potential. Based on the philosophy of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Accessing Music presents a way of planning, teaching, and assessing instructions that is naturally inclusive of all possible types of learners. This guide allows educators to help students get more from their lessons and classroom experiences, sparking a lifelong interest in music and music-making. Accent on Composers, Vol. 2 introduces another volume of Alfred Music’s most popular 100% reproducible book. For each of the 22 featured composers, there is a biography, a portrait, a listing of the composer’s musical genres, interesting factoids, and a timeline. Users can listen to an example of each composer’s music while following the listening guide. Also included are reviews/tests for each, plus more than two-dozen pages of supplementary material. Composers include Berlioz, Bernstein, Chopin, Ellington, Gershwin, Prokofiev, Puccini, Purcell, Mahler, Rachmaninoff, Strauss, and more. As an added feature, PDFs of the entire book are included on the enhanced CD.

You Want Me to Teach What? is the culmination of two experienced teachers who conquered the challenge of transitioning from a secondary instrumental or choral classroom to the general music classroom. This book offers practical advice with great care and wit. Chapters of the book address attitude, school environment, classroom management, curriculum and assessment, and student performance. In addition, concrete lesson plans are provided for each grade level.

Composer Gallery offers a complete full-color poster set depicting 24 favorite composers as delightful caricatures on 9” x 12” card-stock. On the backside of each, users are able to learn more with compelling biographies, dates, and historical information. New classroom educational resources from Alfred Music range in price from $19.99 to $39.99 and are now available at music retail stores and at alfred.com. Alfred Music Releases

Sacred Choral Music for the Holiday Season

Los Angeles, CA—July 2014Alfred Music adds to its catalog of sacred music with the release of choral scores for Christian worship ministries. Darkness into Light, Miracle at the Christmas Café, HymnFest, and Christmas Suite are added to the company’s catalog just in time for the holiday sales season.

Darkness into Light is the new 40-minute adult Christmas musical from Mary McDonald, which features fresh settings of carols along with beautiful new songs, and celebrates the Light of Christ. An optional candlelight moment is included along with inspired narration and lighting suggestions to heighten the darkness into light theme. For efficient rehearsals, Listening CDs and Part-Dominant Reproducible CDs are available for purchase. An Accompaniment Track CD and Chamber Orchestration parts are also available, giving choirs a variety of performance options.

Miracle at the Christmas Café welcomes the listener to Bethlehem and the Christmas Café, where Polly Porkchop and Mac N. Cheese serve up some home cooking and tell The Greatest Story Ever Told that happened right up the street not long ago. Easily prepared and presented, this funny and touching 20-minute reproducible musical can be performed by large and small children’s choirs alike. Listening CDs are available for efficient rehearsals, along with an accompaniment track CD for performance.

Classic hymns are given an artful touch from veteran Benjamin Harlan with new collection, HymnFest. Each arrangement can stand on its own, or worship choirs can perform the entire five arrangements (with optional narration to tie them together) as a 20-minute performance during a regular worship service. Optional suggestions are also included to create a full hour-long hymn service with additional anthem and hymn ideas. Included hymns are “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee,” “For the Beauty of the Earth,” “All Creatures of Our God and King,” “This Is My Father’s World,” and “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah.” This collection of arrangements may also be purchased with an accompanying listening CD for learning purposes.

Three carol arrangements from Mark Hayes are linked with brief spoken narratives to create Christmas Suite. This collection is recommended for a Christmas Eve service or anytime during the Christmas season when a full work isn’t desired. “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella,” “Midnight Noel,” and “O Holy Night” are selections included in this suite of holiday music. There are a variety of ways choirs are able to perform this piece, with both accompaniment track CD and chamber orchestration parts available.

These new choral titles from Alfred Music are now available at music retail stores and at alfred.com.
