Knight Death and the Devil The Devil represents
temptations, immoral behavior, and desire.
The knight looks forward away from the death and evil behind him. His Lance and armor show he is content and confident.
Dogs in the renaissance represented loyalty and watchfulness.
In particular this dog helps to show the night is loyal to his cause.
The path he is riding his horse on is supposed to be the ‘path of virtue’.
Rhinoceros Woodcut in 1515 Depicts the rhino as
having sheets of armor protecting its body
The image shows interest in animal art, he never saw a rhino in real life (explaining the armor)

Painted in 1502 The Angel- The learner. The Globe- The world is blank.
To show we can transform the world and ourselves through what we learn.
The Comet- This is supposed to represent God. Distant, and unable to be captured.
The Dog- Lying between the comet and the globe. It represents faith lying between the spiritual and terrestrial worlds.

Why was Albrecht important to the Renaissance?
Durer is important to the renaissance because he is said to be the first (if not one of the first) Northern Renaissance artists.
He was the first Renaissance artist to use Watercolors, and Wood-carvings.
Also he introduced portraits and landscapes.
Willow Mill- Begun in 1496Completed 1498
Artist’s Techniques Albrecht Durer specialized in relief
prints and intaglios. From that he mastered in
woodcutting, etching, and engraving. He was exceptional in using tools to
carve and etch into sheets of metal and wood.
For paintings he mainly used watercolors and vibrant oils.
