Knight Death and the Devil The Devil represents

temptations, immoral behavior, and desire.

The knight looks forward away from the death and evil behind him. His Lance and armor show he is content and confident.

Dogs in the renaissance represented loyalty and watchfulness.

In particular this dog helps to show the night is loyal to his cause.

The path he is riding his horse on is supposed to be the ‘path of virtue’.
