The Pliocene Model Intercomparsion Project (PlioMIP) - Phase 1
and where next...??
Workshop 1: Goddard Institute for Space Studies 2008
Workshop 2: US Geological Survey 2011
It began in 2007/2008
To produce our best representation of a warm world in the Pliocene and assess model dependency
What did we do?• Formal MIP and not an ensemble of opportunity
• 2 Pliocene experiments (1 × AGCM, 1 × AOGCM)
• Set up with the best boundary conditions available from the PRISM Project (Pliocene Research Interpretations and Synoptic Mapping):
- SST/sea-ice (AGCM)- Topography (as an anomaly)- Vegetation (new within PMIP)- CO2 at 405 ppmv- Deep ocean temperatures*
