Introduction

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Data and maintenance routines will be shown are similar to global aviation maintenance.

Aviation engineering and aircraft maintenance start from studying the components of each part.

Aircraft maintenance like any maintenance-line routine.

Protection and checks on systems need to study the whole system.

There are two main types of maintenance…

Page 4: Aircraft Maintenance

Maintenance practices

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Maintenance Practices are classified into :

Protective Maintenance.A. Inspection

o Daily inspection.o Periodical inspection.

B. Servicing

Corrective Maintenance.

Checks & Protection

Protection against ice formation De-icing system. Anti-ice system.

Checks & Protection

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft fuel system Regulation wise. Ram air functions:

Pressurization of fuel tanks. Replacing the used fuel with air

Fuel Temperature control.

Engine Lifetime

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

There are two parameters give the time of maintenance :

1. Hard time.2. Cycles.

Page 11: Aircraft Maintenance

1.Hard Time

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

The time between overhauls. The total number of flight hours that the

engine can make before it is entered into the overhaul maintenance.

The hard time specified by the manufacturer

Page 12: Aircraft Maintenance

2.Cycles

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Depend on the material used in building the engine.

Number of cycles are fixed for a given material.

Page 13: Aircraft Maintenance

Conditions for the one cycle

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

1. Starting the engines, take off, maximum climb, cruise, idle, landing, shutting down the engines.

2. Reaching to high powers.3. The engines are used to move the aircraft

from one location to another.

Lifetime Of Such Types Of Aircraft

Lifetime Determining

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

1. On condition Inspection after each flight. Only the module that has the problem will go

maintenance not the engine as a block.2. Engine condition monitoring (ECM)

Continuous monitoring of key engine parameter. Uses standard engine and aircraft instrumentation

for monitoring. No additional measurement equipment is needed.

Maintenance sence

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Engineering sence, experience, and instructions of the maintenance manual are very important in making correct servicing.

Example

Page 22: Aircraft Maintenance

Engine Cleaning

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Carbo Blast• Engine is turned on at idle speed.• Detergent is sprayed into the engine

intake.Water Washing• Sealing any openings to engine

components.• Engine is rotated by dry cranking.• Water is sprayed into the engine

intake.

Preservation Routine

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Storing engine for

less than 90 days

All openings must be closed

Silica gel put inside the

engine

Humidity must be

monitored

Storing engine more than 90 days

Same steps

Fuel paths must be

evacuated from fuel and filled with oil

Page 24: Aircraft Maintenance

De reservation Routine

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Removing the cover from all

openingsRestoring

the correct oil level in

the oil tanks

Replacing oil with fuel

in fuel paths

Conclusion

1/12/2016 Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft engineering and maintenance need to be familiar with any components in aircraft.

No way for any default in maintenance whether in preventive or corrective maintenance routine.

Maintenance of aircraft classified into levels.Determining lifetime of the aircraft is very

important.
