And for 2011 the world’s greateststeeplechase also turned into oneof the country’s biggest fashionshows as Merseyside’s kings andqueens of trend transformedAintree into one giant catwalk.

Despite sections of the nationalpress trying their hardest touncover some of the lesssuccessful outfits on display – andcast doubt on our glamourcredentials – the next 16 pages ofgorgeousness prove that when itcomes to fashion we’re winners bymiles.

What those southern punditsfailed to understand is thatLiverpool lasses adore clothes butmore than that, we adore beingdifferent.

We want unique andeye-catching not the same old

same old that everyone else will bewearing. We’ll follow the trendsbut the chances are we’ll givethem our own twist.

We’re fashion leaders, notfollowers and we don’t mindtaking risks.

That’s never been more evidentthan at this year’s Aintreemeeting.

Maxi dresses were everywhere,some with floppy hats and a ‘70svibe but others channelling oldfashion Hollywood glamour withfigure hugging fabrics and oneshoulder detail.

Other girls went for sexy andshort, whether elegantHepburn-inspired silhouettes,retro tea-dress designs or MadMen-esque structured curves.

Strong colours dominated, withmany girls a dream in tangerine,sophisticated in black ormonochrome or bang on trend inthe new nudes of palest peach, soft

ivory or blush. And oh, the hats.Out went teeny tiny fascinators

and in came big statement pieces,always colour co-ordinated andalways stunning.

As for the boys it was smartsuits and sharp tailoring allround and those who didventure more casual chinosteamed them with stand-outjackets or blazers.
