This last quarter has truly been an experiential Leadership journey for most of the members on the National and the local level merely because we recruited new generation of AIESEC, who will be leading AIESEC Mauritius for the coming 2-3 years. This was the time when leaders of the organization at the local and the National level started the actual work after being familiar to the reality of work and people around.Making young people work as volunteers without even paying them, for their own benefit, so that they could change the world for better and have a positive impact on the society is not the easiest of job in the world. Doing so, was again a big learning and reflection journey for the young leaders of the organization. Our ambition of engaging and developing every young person in Mauritius keeps us going ahead even when we have challenges on our way. This newsletter states all the activities we did in the pre- vious quarter which got us closer to our ambition and enabled us to empower the youth of this nation. The quarter report will also give you a brief of the upcoming activities through which possibilities of collaboration can be found. Global VillageOn the 17th of December 2011, AIESEC Mauritius held a Global Village at Shoprite to celebrate diversity which is one of our organisation core values. There were stands of more than 15 countries scattered all over the shopping com-plex showcasing their culture through traditional food, music and costumes.

This event also aimed at bringing a festive mood for underprivileged children coming from Fraternité Nord Sud and Lakaz A; 2 NGO’s work-ing with children coming from pockets of poverty in the vicinity of Port Louis. A drawing and paint-ing competition was held in the morning followed by lunch. We were happy to bring a smile on the face of the 70 children who participated in this event.

The afternoon agenda consisted of cultural live performances from Mauritians and AIESEC international participants. Despite the bad pre-vailing weather that day, the crowd was there to watch the performances and enjoy the cultural diversity.

On 7th of December, AIESEC Mauritius along with Omnicane Foundation held a closing cer-emony for the Child empowerment project. This project was an initiative of AIESEC in cooperation with NGOs (Fraternité Nord Sud, APEIM, CEDEM along with the rest) aimed to have a positive impact upon vulnerable children by teaching them life skills, English, mathematics, different sports, music, painting etc. This Project enabled 40 talented International young volunteers to come down from 20 different countries to work

with more than 400 vulnerable children to bring a change in their lives.

The ceremony took place at the MITD lec-ture theatre in the presence of Mr Rajivsingh Ramlugon, Sustainable development coordinator of Omnicane Foundation, Ms Shalini Sinha, rep-resenting the CSR Committee, Ms Deepa Kharti, president of AIESEC in Mauritius, representa-tives of the partnering NGOs of the Project and AIESEC Members from 5 different Universities.

Kenji Athaw, AIESEC Member and Project Manager, said, “A recent survey showed that there are around 19 000 orphans in Mauritius”. He also emphasized on the importance of young Mauritians, contributing to this issue of vulner-able children by taking responsibility to work for the cause. He presented a report on the Project with the impact created on these children focus-sing on the fact that the children in the NGOs spent an amazing time with the international Volunteers from AIESEC Mauritius. The Children were exposed to a whole new world of possi-bilities, motivation, new learning experiences by the help of informal teaching via the internation-als who made them believe on their dreams and

that they could achieve anything they want in their Lives which became the key output of the Project.

Mrs. Shalini Sinha, from CSR committee stated that education is the most valuable thing that can be given to unprivileged children. She also stated that the method which AIESEC young volunteers (local and international) use is an amazing way of informal teaching which has more effect and impact than the formal way of teaching.
