Ch 8.8 Similarity and DilationsMaking Faces Project
(Due Monday)
Warm UpWarm UpGraph the following points to create
triangle ABC.A (1, 2) B (4, 1) C (2, 4)
Now, complete the following transformations:• Reflect across the x-axis• Translate 8 units left and 6 units down• Rotate 90º counterclockwise
Similarity Similarity and and
DilationsDilationsChapter 8.8
Similar Polygons: have the same shape, but can be different sizes
Dilation: stretches or shrinks a figure. The image created is similar to the original figure
Distortion: scales the figure in one dimension, leaving the other dimension the same
TASK #1Place a sheet of graph
paper over the face parts worksheet, and
trace the desired parts to make a face
Place letters along the width and numbers
along the length of the graph paper to provide reference coordinates
for each cell of the face.
Create the face
TASK #1
TASK #2Enlarge the face
To do this, you will double the
width and length of the cells of the
face.
You will need to copy each cell’s content form the original into the appropriate cell of the
enlargement.
(What is in cell D3 of original will go in cell D3 of enlargement, it will just be much larger)
TASK #2
TASK #2
TASK #3Distort the face
To distort the face, you will scale up one dimension, and leave the other dimension the
same. Please scale the one dimension by 3 or 4.
TASK #3
To Recap:To Recap:Task #1: Draw the face
(one box for each dimension)
Task #2: Enlarge the face(two boxes for each dimension)
Task #3: Distort the face(one box for each on one dimension, three boxes for
each on the other dimension)
When you are done, color in the faces.Note: each face should be on a separate
piece of graph paper.
