should never breed dependence. That’s why we have made a commitment to shut down the UK fundraising office in 2018.

We run a hospital in Bolgatanga, northern Ghana, which through the government National Health Insurance scheme, treats over 60,000 patients a year. The profits generated are channelled into AfriKids’ child rights projects which help over 300,000 vulnerable children and families in the area.

This is sustainable aid in action.

This takes the remote and desolate mining district beyond survival to a situation where the future will be led by a generation of literate, driven and productive young adults. One which doesn’t rely on western aid.

We passionately believe that charity should never breed dependence. That’s why AfriKids didn’t only bring Lena home from the slums of the Kumasi racecourse, we helped her to rebuild her home, her business and her self confidence.

Four years on Lena has not only turned her own life around but the lives of the three other young adults who now work as her apprentices.

Together Lena and her peers are putting AfriKids out of business.

The businesses that we are resourcing them to develop will ensure they no longer rely on western aid to finance their award winning work in child protection.

The hundreds of thousands of families they reach will be supported through successful large scale business initiatives in the very region the children live.

These businesses simultaneously drive jobs and money into the economy, addressing poverty at the root.
