ADVERB PHRASES An adverb phrase is a prepositional phrase that modifies a verb, an adjective, or an adverb Like an adverb, an adverb phrase tells how, when, where or to what degree An adverb phrase can come anywhere in the sentence. EX: 1. Good nutrition is important for health. (important how?) 2. Vitamins are provided in many foods. (provided where?) 3. At breakfast we eat fruit and cereal. (eat when?) 4. The Severinos shop for groceries at Whole Foods. (shop why/where?) 5. Many people supplement their diets with extra herbs. (supplement how?) Be careful! In the sentence below,“with extra herbs” is an adjective phrase : Diets with extra herbs are healthful.
