New York is an outdoor and adventure lover’s

paradise, with plenty of opportunities to

explore the wilder side of life throughout the

state. From New York City to the Adirondacks,

no matter where you go in New York, you’re

sure to find an adventure waiting to happen.

Just outside of New York City, the Hudson River Valley

provides a multitude of outdoor adventures year-

round. When the weather is nice, lace up your hiking

boots for a thrilling hike ascending the 14 peaks that

overlook the valley. Remote and lush forest areas are

the ideal backdrop for hikes that rival any other

mountain hike in the country. For an even more

challenging hiking experience in the Hudson River

Valley, try the Breakneck Ridge climb and hike.

When the temperatures drop, this area provides

excellent trails for winter horseback riding, ice

climbing, snowshoeing and more. Let the wilderness

be your guide.

White water rafting trips in the Adirondack Mountains

of upstate New York are another great way to get

your adrenaline pumping. Organized rafting trips

offered by a number of professional rafting

companies and guides will get you in the water, and

on your way to the adventure of a lifetime. The rivers

in upstate New York provide varying levels of

difficulty, so you can tailor the trip to your wants and

needs. The exciting and turbulent rivers of the

springtime rapids found in the Hudson, Black and

Moose rivers are perfect for rafters that want to rev

their adventure engines. Calmer waters in late

summer are ideal for family rafting vacations, or those

that don’t want to risk their lives on the more rugged

rapids.

If you’d rather be in the air than in the water, check out zip lining tours all around New York for a chance to breeze through the

trees and get a different vantage point of the landscape. Zip

lining in New York is a great way to see the state in a new way,

and also provides a thrilling adventure as you zip between trees

in the Hudson Valley. Some zip line tour operators are even open year round, so you can experience this adventure whenever you

are visiting the area.

Winter is also a great time to seek out adventure in New York with

the multiple winter sports areas throughout the state. No matter

your experience level, New York has got a ski resort to

accommodate your needs. From Greek Peak in the Finger Lakes

to the site of Olympic Winter Games at Whiteface Mountain in the

Adirondacks, there are plenty of options to ski, snowboard, tube

and more in New York. Get extra adventurous by checking out opportunities to ice climb in the Adirondacks at the Adirondack

High Peaks region, renting snowmobiles to explore the terrain, or

jump in a bobsled at Lake Placid.

No matter which adventure you choose during your

time in New York, be sure to have a comfortable place

to prop up your feet and lay your head at the end of the

day. Book a Lake Placid vacation rental or a Hudson

Valley cabin rental for your next adventure trip to New

York to get the comforts of home after a long day of

exploring.
