Bloodmaw'sMaraudersBasedoutofDrakWaldforest,Bloodmaw'sMaraudersareafearedpresenceinthenorthwesternregionoftheEmpire.FortensummersBloodmawNozrunnerhasledtheMaraudersinnumerousraidsagainstthepansyelvesesandhumies.Manyhavediedwhiletryingtocollectthebountyonhishead.ForsomejustmentioningthenameBloodmawisenoughtoturnaperson'skneestojelly.TheMaraudersareunlikeotherorcs,becauseoftheirsmallnumbersandtheirratherintelligentboss.Bloodmaw,besidehisconstantrunningnose,isgiftedwithakeenintellect(wellkeenforanorc).Hisgraspoftacticsandorganizationisunmatchedbythemajorityofhisrace.Unlikemostbosses,Bloodmawsteersclearfromdirectconfrontations,andreliesonhis'sneakytactics.'Hehasendlesslydrilledhisboyzintheartofhitandrunambushes,whichisdubbed'TheGreenWave.'ThatisnottosaythatBloodmaw'sboyzareabunchofpansyelfs.Theyareabletoslaughterandmaimwiththebest,butBloodmawrecognizesthebenefitsofhis'sneakytactics.'

Themajorbenefitisthattheboyzdon'tdieasquickly.Byfightingfromtheshadowsandambushingtheirenemiestheboyzlivetoenjoythespoils.AsBloodmawlikestosay,'winsbreedswins,'andthisisthesecondmajorbenefitof'sneakytactics.'Theenemyneverseesthemcoming.Byspringingattacksusingthecoverofthewoods,Bloodmawandtheboyzquicklyoverwhelmtheirenemiesandwinthebattle.Thesetacticsalsoprovehelpfulwhenfightingotherboyz.Whereother'sblindlychargein,Bloodmaw'sMaraudersstayattherearandharasstheadvancingenemywithsteadybowfire.Whenwhentheenemybreaks,theboyzgrabtheirweaponsandstartthekilling.Thoughthesuccessrateishigh,manyorcbosseshavebegunwhisperingthattheMaraudersarenothingmorethenovergrowngobbos.Bloodmawhasignoredthis,buthissonhasn't.

HorntooththeMarkedisBloodmaw'sonlyson.UnlikehisfatherHorntoothisnotthatbright.NomatterhowhardBloodmawpoundshissonintheheadHorntoothhasnotgottenanysmarter.Despitehisfather'ssuccess,Horntoothfeelsthathisfatherisaweakcoward.He,andhisloyaltoadies,havebeguntoplotagainstBloodmaw.ItisHorntooth'sdesiretoreplacehisfatherasbossoftheMarauders.Lackingthenecessarybrainpowertodeviseaplanhimself,HorntoothhasbeenaidedbyagobboknownasGlowEyes.

GlowEyesisunlikeothergobbos,andthisisduetohiscunningintellect,commandofmagick,andhisdevotiontoTzeentch.ForthepastfewyearshasbeenworkingintheDrakWaldForestspreadingtheseedsofChaos.Hehasturnedbeastmenagainstbeastmen,andhasfueledinnertribalconflictsamongtheorcsandgobbos.

Hehascausedmuchmischiefalongtheroads,andhas

evenrunafouloftheelvesintheLaurelornForest.GlowEyeshasdreamsofbeingamajorpower,andwantstoriseabovehisgobbostature.Hisworkhasprovenhisworthandhismasterhasrewardedhimwithpowerandmutations.

SeeingthelimitedbraincapacityofHorntooth,GlowEyesbeganplayingtoHorntooth'segoandslowlymanipulatinghim.CravingpowerGlowEyessawthepotentialoftheMaraudersbeingledbyHorntooth.SlowlythegobbofilledHorntooth'sheadwithvisionsofgrandeur,andfeedhisego.Theorchasbeenfedasteadydietofbeingtoldhowgreatheis,andhowhewouldmakebeabetterbossthanhisfather.GlowEyes'wordshavebeeneffective,andHorntoothbelievesheshouldbetheMarauders'boss.SensingthatthetimeisrightGlowEyesputthefinalpartofhisplanintomotion.

Bloodmawpossessesabanner,whichisnotonlythesymbolofthetribe,butapowerfulmagicitemaswell.WiththebannerBloodmawhasledtheMarauderstonumerousvictories,andmoreimportantlyhavenotexperienceddefeatinyears.GlowEyesrealizedthatifthebannerwasmissing,theruleofBloodmawcouldbesubverted.Theorcswouldfeelthattheywerecursed,andbegintospeakoutagainsttheirboss.IftheMarauderswereforcedtofightwithoutthebannertheywouldlose,whichwouldangerthetribeevenmore,becauseafterallboyzliketowin.ThiswouldgiveHorntooththeperfectopportunitytotakecontroloftheMarauders.IfHorntoothalsohappenedtohavethebanner,hisleadershipwouldbecemented.Theplanwasperfectand,withtheaidofanearbytribeofbeastmen,wouldsucceed.AllGlowEyeshadtodowasconvinceHorntoothtostealthebannerandflee.

AtfirstBloodmawdidnotrealizethebannerwasmissing.Thenhebeganhearingreportsofbeastmenroamingthearea.Toheadoffthetrouble,Bloodmawwenttoassembletheboyzandleadthemagainsttheenemy.Itwasthenthatherealizedthebannerwasmissing.Tomakemattersworse,hisrockforbrainssonandhistenfollowersweremissingaswell.Notwantingtoletonwhatwaswrong,Bloodmawcalledhismosttrustedbodyguards.Hetoldthemofthemissingbanner,andaboutHorntooth'sdisappearance.Orderingthesixtofindthebanner,hetoldthemthattheyhadtwodaystofinditandreturnwithit.Swearingthemtosecrecy,Bloodmawtoldthemthatiftheyfailed,theywouldbefedtothesnotlings.

Bloodmaw'sMaraudersisaoneroundtournamentadventuredesignedforsixorcPCs.TheplayersmustrecoverthemissingbannerandreturnitbacktoBloodmaw.ThePCshavetwodaystofindthebanner,andiftheyfail,facecertaindeath.TheadventureissetintheDrakWaldForestnearthesouthernedgeoftheSchadensumpf.

Introduction

Youwerecalledintothetentoftheboss.WhenBloodmawcalls,youanswer.Thosewhofail,neverfailagain.Unlikemost,youareluckythatyouserveBloodmawashisbodyguards.YouarehismosttrustedintheMaraudersandyourpositionisrelativelystressfree. Asbodyguardsyougetthesecondchoiceofplunderandthebestchoiceoffood.Yourloyaltyisrewardedandthejobisnotthathard,duetotheboyzgenerallybeinghappywithBloodmawastheboss.

Thingshavebeentenseforthepastfewdays.Beastmenareadvancingintoyourterritory,andtherehasbeenincreasedfightingwiththem.Addingtothis,Bloodmaw'ssonHorntoothhasdisappeared.Heandhislackeyshavenotbeenseeninthreedays.Thoughheisdumberthenarock,Horntoothisnotthatdumbtogetlost.AllofthishasmadetheMaraudersedgyandrestless.

YouapproachthetentofBloodmawandaresurprisedtoseethattheflapsaredown.Entering,yousensethetensionintheair,andseenumeroussnotlingstossedabout.Itappearstheyhavesufferedthewrathofthebosses'anger.Bloodmawsitsbroodingonhisthroneandhiseyesglowredinanger.

Bloodmawhasbeenthebossforclosetotensummers, andisthesmartestorcthereis.Someofyouhelpedhimgaincontrolofthetribe.ItwasyouwhohelpedconvincetheMaraudersaboutBloodmaw's'sneakytactics.'UnderBloodmaw'sleadershipthetribehasbecomefearedandrichofftheirvictories.InallyourtimeyouhaveneverseenBloodmawthisangry.

Seeingyou,Bloodmawviolentlykicksthesnotlinghewasusingasafootstool.Thesnotlingfliesthroughtheairandlandswithasickeningthudatyourfeet.Beforeyoucanlaugh,orsayanything,Bloodmawyells.

TheMissingBannerBloodmawisangryoverthebanner'stheftandisyellingatthePCsaboutthis.TalkingwithhimthePCslearnthatafterreturningfromaraidagainstahumievillage,Bloodmawthrewitinachestandlockedit.Onlyonepersonhasthekey,andithangsaroundBloodmaw'sneck.Hewasgoingtoassembletheboyzthismorningandleadtheminaraidagainstthebeastmen.Whenhewenttothechest,andthoughitwasstilllocked,thebannerwasgone.BloodmawhashadthebannermanyyearsandthePCsknowthatwiththebannertheMaraudershavenotlostabattlesinceBloodmawhasbeenboss.

AtfirstBloodmawthoughtoneofthesnotlingsstoleit,butquestioningthemturnedupnothing.Oneofthemdidstatethattheysawanorcsneakintothetentafewdaysago.TheorcwasHorntoothandhehadwithhimapieceofglowingmetal.Horntoothtouchedthechestandthelidopened.Hethentookthebanner,closedthechestandran.Bloodmawyellsagainandkicksoneofthesnotlingswhoistryingtogetup.Thesnotlingfliesthroughtheairandlandswithawetthumpontheground.BloodmawknowsaboutHorntooth'sdisappearance,andthinksitismorethanacoincidencethatheandthebanneraregone.BloodmawstatesthatheheardHorntoothandhisboyzwerelastseenheadingeast.

BloodmawtellsthePCsthattheyhavetwodaystofindthebannerandreturnwithit.ThebannerisneedediftheMaraudersaregoingtofightthebeastman.Bloodmawknowsnothingelse.BeforethePCsleavehewarnsthemnottosayawordaboutwhathashappened.Ifanyoftheboyzfindoutthatthebannerismissingtherewillbetrouble.HewarnsthePCsthatiftheyfailingettingthebanner,theywillbefedtothesnotlings.Bloodmaw'slastwordstothePCsarethatthereisnoexcuseforfailure.

AskingaroundthecampaboutHorntooth,thePCslearnthatthreedaysagoheandhistenlackeyswereheadingeast.ThegroupsaidtheywerescoutingtheenemyandthatBloodmawsentthempersonally.Noonedoubtsthis,butafewoftheboyzlaughthatperhapsHorntoothmisunderstoodtheorders.Afterall,everyoneknowsthatasnotlinghasmorebrainsthanHorntooth.AsuccessfulEasy(+20%)GossiptesthasoneoftheorcsmentioningthatHorntoothwascarryingalargebundle.Whenaskedaboutit,Horntoothsaiditwasnothing.

AsuccessfultesthasthePCsalsolearnthatHorntoothhasbeenspendingalotoftimealoneinthewoods.Forthepastthreemonthshehasgoneintothewoodsinthemorningandnotreturninguntildusk.Everytimesomeonequestionedhimaboutthis,Horntoothsaidhewasscouting.

AsuccessfulVeryEasy(+30%)IntelligencetesthasthePCrememberthatHorntoothisnotknownforbeingagoodscoutandinfactcannotfindhiswayoutofatent!

ExaminingtheareaandmakingasuccessfulFollowTrailtest,thePCsdiscoverasetoforctracksneartheEastendofthecamp.TheareaiswelltraveledandahalfhourawayfromthecampthePCsdiscoveranothersetofabouttwentytracksleadingawayfromthecamp.Thetracksheadeast,andanothersuccessfulFollowTrailtestrevealsabouttenseparatesetsoforctracks,aswellasclosetoeightsetsofsnotlingtracks.

MutieHumiesTwohoursawayfromtheMarauders'camp,thetrailturnsandcontinuesNorthEast.AsuccessfulFollowTrailtesthasthemnoticethatanothersetoftracksismixedamongtheorcsandsnotlings.Thesetracksappeartobeanimaltracks,andbylooksofthemtheanimalwasstalkingaftertheHorntoothandhisboyz.APCwiththeFollowTrailskillcanmakeanunmodifiedIntelligencetest,andsuccessrevealsthatitappearstobealargesnake.ThetrackscontinueNorthEastforanhourandasthePCsmaketheirwaythroughthewoodstheynoticetheareaisquiet.ASixthSensetesttellsthePCssomethingisnotright,andtheyhaveafeelingofbeingwatched.

ClosetonoonthePCsseeasmallclearingupahead.Thetracksledintotheclearing,butthePCsmaynoticeonasuccessfulPerceptiontestthatthereappearstobemoreanimaltracksscatteredamongtheorcones.AFollowTrailtestrevealsthatthereareatotaloffiveanimaltracks.SoonthePCscometoaclearingabout50yardsindiameter.IftheyarenotbeingcautiousthePCsbargeinonagroupofmutiesfeedingontheremainsofsixdeadhumies.SinceboththePCsandthemutiesaresurprised,noonehasanadvantage.Oneroundaftercombathasstartedfourmoremutiesemergesfromthewoodsandjoininthebattle.PCswhoproceedwithcautiondonotblunderintotheambushandcanobservetheclearingfromhiding.

LookingintotheclearingthePCsseeeightmutiesfightingovertheremainsofsixdeadhumies.Oneofthem,whoappearstobetheleader,hasamaneofblackhairandabonecrestontopofherhead.Herlongclawsslashatanalbinohunchbackwhoisattemptingtostealsomeoftheremains.Ontheedgeoftheclearingisaheadlesscreaturecoveredinblueandgreenfur.Onemutie,resemblingahumielikebird,isfightingwithapointedheadwomanwithextremelylonglegs.OfftotheonesidethePCscanseewhatappearstoawalkinghumiehead.Meanwhilerestinginthesunisanotherhumie,withaheadofanant.Thefinalfigureintheclearingisaoneeyedmanwhosearmsstretch.

ThePCscanattemptmovingawayfromtheclearing.PCswhospecifythattheyarealertcanmakeahearingbasedPerceptionorSixthSensetest,withsuccessindicatingthattheyhearsomeoneapproachingfrombehind.BecauseofthisPCsarenotsurprisedbythemutieswhoaretryingtoambushthem.IfthePCsarenotbeingalertandattempttowalkaroundtheyaresurprisedbyfourmutieswhoambushthemfrombehind.Oneofthemutieslookstobenormalexpectforhispitchblackskin.Anotherhastentaclesinsteadofarms,andacloudoffliesfollowshiseverymove.Thethirdmutieisawoman,andherskinistransparent,showingherinternalorgansandmuscles.Inadditionhereyesdanglefromtwoeyestalksandspinesgrowfromherbody.Thelastmutantlookstobealivingstatueofapansyelfwoman,whocriesoutalertingtheothermutiesintheclearing.Themutiesintheclearingstopwhattheyaredoingandmovetokillanothermeal.

Combatproceedsuntileitherhalfofthemutiesarekilled,ortheirleaderisslain.KillinghalfthemutiesforcestheresttotestversusWillPoweramongthesurvivors.Any,whofailthetest,panicandfleeoffintothewoods.KillingthemutieleaderalsoforcestheWillpowertestaswell.PCscantrytopursue,butsoonlosetheminthewoods.

SearchingtheremainsofthedeadhumiesthePCsseethatthebodieshavebeenstrippedofanythingvaluable,aretornapartandpartlyeaten.Iftheorcswerepansyelvesesorhumies,thescenewoulddisturbthem.Forthem,theyhavedonemuchworseonthebattlefield,andthescenehasnoaffectontheorcs.SearchingthegroundintheclearingwithasuccessfulFollowTrailtesthasthePCsnoticeasetofthreedayoldtracks,whichareofHorntoothandhislackeys.AnotherunmodifiedIntelligencecheckhasthePCsnoticethatthesnaketrackisstillamongthem.

AtduskthePCsnoticethegroundisbecomingwetterandspringier.Theairisfilledwithcloudsofbitingfliesandanoverpoweringstench.Despitetheirnightvisionitisbecomingtoodarktopushon,andacampsiteisgoingtobeneededforthenight.Thegroundiswet,butthePCscanfindsomehighgroundthatwouldserveasagoodcampsite.

Eveningpassesquietlyandnothingoutoftheordinaryhappens.Inthedistancetheoccasionalroarandscreamcanbeheard.OntheperimeterofthecampthePCsseenumerousglowingeyeshoveringinthedarkness.TheeyesstareatthePCsandwatchtheireverymovement.IftheytrytoMovetowardsthem,theeyesdisappear,onlytoreappearinanotherspot.

ApproachingthehillsthePCsnoticethattheyareveryrocky.Treesdotthetopofthehills,buttheledgesinsomeplacesarenothingmorethansheercliffs.Thesehillsarehometomanystrangethingsandthereisalargepopulationofbeastmenandmutantswholiveamongtherocksandsmallvalleys.Thehillsalsohavesmalldepositsofwarpstone,andthishasaffectedtheanimalsthatcallthehillshome.Oneoftheseanimalsisalargehillcatthathasbeenmutatedbyeatingwarpstonetaintedgame,anddrinkingwarpstonelacedwater.

Thiscat,noticingthePCs,beginstostalkthem.Acarefulhunter,thecatspringsfromthecoveroftherocksandattacksaPC.AsthePCshikeinthehillsthecatstalksthemonaledgeandwaitstopounceononeofthepassingboyz.ThecatsuprisesthePCsonasuccessfulopposedConcealmenttestagainstthePCsPerception.

ObservingthescenebelowthePCsseeafewboyzmillingaround.AllofthemappeartobeHorntooth'slackeys.Scanningthecampsite,thePCsdonotseeanysignofHorntooth,buttheycanseeafewguardskeepingalazywatchonthecamp'sperimeter.Observingthecampformorethen10minutes,thePCssuddenlyseeHorntoothemergingfromtheshaman'stent.Heisyelling,andfollowingafterhimisasmall

gobbowearingrattybrownrobes.Whatisevenmoresurprisingisthatthelowerhalfofthegobbo'sbodyisasnake.

ThegobboslithersbehindtheragingHorntooth.Alsoemergingfromthetentisabeastiethatstandstallerthenanogre.ThegobbosaysafewwordstoHorntoothwhoimmediatelystopsyellingandlistensattentivelytowhatthegobbohastosay.Afterafewminutes,Horntoothstartsbarkingorderstotheremainingboyz.Allbuttwotakeatrailleadingoutofthecratertothesouth.Horntooth,thegobbo,andthebeastiethenleavethecampheadingnorth.

ThePCsneedtosneakintothecampandfindthebanner.SneakingintothecamprequiressuccessfulopposedConcealmentandSilentMovetestsagainstboyz'Perception.

Unlesstheyobservethecampformorethanfifteenminutes,theydonotnoticetheeightsnotlingsinthecamp.Fourofthesnotlingsarecollectingfirewoodandtheyareonthesouthwestsideofthecamp.Onesnotlingisbusycookingameagermealoveracampfire,andisbeingtormentedbytheorcguardstandingcloseby.Nearthesoutheastendofthecamptwosnotlingscanbeseendiggingapit.ThePCsalsoseethatanorcguardisstandinginfrontofatentthatclearlybelongstoHorntooth.InsidethetentisHorntooth'spersonalsnotlingservantwhoisbusypolishinganewsuitofarmour.

TheboyzwholeftcampweresentbyHorntoothtogohuntforfood,andwillbegoneforfourhours.MeanwhileHorntooth,GlowEyesandthebeastielefttomeetwiththebeastman'sleader.GlowEyes,whowantsthetribe'sagreementthattheywillsupportHorntooth,willnotbebackuntildusk.ThatgivesthePCsafewhourstosneakintothecampsite,findthebanner,andleave.

Theorcguardscanbeeasilydealtwithiftheyaresurprised.AttackingtheguardbyHorntooth'stentthereisa50%chancethattheotherorcguardhearsthisandcomestoinvestigate.Attackingtheguardbythefireisriskywiththesnotlingthere,andthesnotlingscreamsifnotdealtwithinthefirstround.Thesnotlings,whoarediggingapitandcollectingfirewood,thoughweak,aredeadlyinsmallgroups.IftheyarenotkilledquicklytheyalerttherestofthecampofthePCspresence.AsuccessfulIntelligencetestgivesthePCtheideathatanoptionwouldbewouldbetousesubterfugeandtakethesnotlingsoutonebyone,witharrows,andthenmoveintothecamp.

SometimeduringthenightthePCsaresurprisedbybeasties.Thebeasties,catchingthePCs'scent,havebeentrailingthemforanhour.Theywaituntilthepartystopstorest,andthenambushthem.AbeastieresemblingagoatyellsasavagewarcryandhisfollowersrushthePCs.Thesecondbeastieresemblesabatandcarriesalongrustysword.Runningnexttohimisabeastieresemblingagiantwhiterabbit.Thefourthresemblesaboarandmovesinwiththeleader.Thebeastiesfighttothedeath,andoncecombatisoverthePCsonlyhaveafewminutestocatchtheirbreathandbindtheirwoundsbeforetheyhearmoredrumsinthedistance.
