AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING Interested in learning more about air conditioning and heating? This course will focus on basic electrical circuits and cooling systems, including control wiring, maintenance, and trouble shooting.

AUTO BODY Body work depends on basic surface preparation, correct methods of metal work, skillful use of primer and paints and buffing techniques. Practice will be done on projects provided by the student.

AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE – BASIC In this class, you will learn the basic components of routine automotive maintenance, including fluid maintenance, tire rotation, basic tune ups, troubleshooting, and more! Students must provide own personal protective equipment.

AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE – INTERMEDIATE This class will continue to build on what you learned in the

basic course, be more in depth on automotive maintenance, and breakdown engine components. You will learn how to diagnose and troubleshoot problems, and learn what to do after the problem is diagnosed. Prerequisite: Must have taken Basic Automotive class or have basic automotive knowledge and skills. Students must provide own personal protective equipment.

BUS DRIVER TRAINING This course covers legal controls, emergency procedures, student behavior management, defensive driving, bus loading, railroad crossing safety, vehicle inspection, emergency evacuation, skill maneuvers, and over–the–road driving. Students must be 18 years of age and have passed the written CDL exam with passenger (P) endorsement and school bus (S) endorsement at least 10 days prior to the start date of class. 100% attendance is required to complete this course. Testing is typically held the 2nd Saturday of class depending on State-Tester’s availability. No air brakes. Prerequisite – Proof of CDL permit with required endorsements at least 10 days before the class begins. Proof of CDL Permit must be submitted with enrollment. Students opting not to test on the scheduled day of testing will be required to set up a private test at a cost of $50 per test, if opting to test through MATC. Discount unavailable.

CABINET MAKING The Cabinet Making course teaches students the basic intricacies of wood working, from project planning and layout, to the finished product. Develop your skills and learn to safely operate equipment in a cabinet shop. Students furnish supplies as needed for their individual projects.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE (CDL) PREP CLASS This class will not result in a CDL credential, but if you have doubts or fears about taking the CDL written exam, this class will help to prepare you for success. The class will cover information about general safety, hazardous materials, hauling passengers and other CDL endorsements. Actual Department of Public Safety CDL tests, credentials and endorsements are administered by the Driver’s License Bureau, not MATC. Discount unavailable.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT – BACKHOE, DOZER & SKID-STEER In this course, students will learn the basics of dozer, backhoe, and skid-steer operations. From safety, proper maintenance, and pre-inspections, this course will cover all aspects. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a completion certificate of training. CONSTRUCTION • DRONE FLIGHT TRAININGNEC CODE UPDATE 2017 This 6 hour course will meet the CEU requirements for electrical contractors and journeyman license renewal. You must bring photo identification and your electrical license the day of the class. Please bring your National Electrical Code book. Discount unavailable.

RESIDENTIAL WIRING This course will cover the fundamentals of residential wiring. The objectives will include wire gauges and amperage, basic wiring, breaker boxes, and electrical codes. Come gain valuable knowledge and skills in the field of electrical wiring.

SMALL GAS ENGINES (BASIC) In this course, you will receive instruction in small engines including fuels, lubrication, cooling and ignition systems, tune–ups, reconditioning, and the use of special tools and equipment. This course covers theories of operation and troubleshooting techniques. You will love being able to save on repairs with your new abilities. Book fee may apply.

SMALL GAS ENGINES (ADVANCED) Build on your experience from the basic course, and learn to disassemble, clean, and repair small gas engines. This class will teach you how to identify parts of the engine including the head, pistons, bearings and how to assemble them. Book fee may apply.

UPHOLSTERY - BASIC Now is the time for you to learn the art of upholstery. Bring your simple project, get measurements and fabric requirements, plus tips on purchasing, and be ready to turn your worn down furniture into a family heirloom. Note: If you have a lengthy project you may need to enroll in more than one session. Students furnish all supplies. No recliners, couches, or automotive/marine interiors, projects approved through instructor.

Leadership Mid-America

Classes meet from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month beginning in September and ending in April.

Tuition for the program is $250. Payment can be made by personal or corporate check. Tuition covers all snacks, meals, program material, speakers, transportation and the graduation banquet. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to pay the tuition of their participants and most do — this is between the par-ticipant and the employer.

COMMERCIAL DRONE PILOT TEST PREP Discover the rules for obtaining an FAA certification to fly drones commercially. Learn tips and tricks from an experienced commercial drone pilot, and what to do to take the FAA part 107 test. Gain the knowledge needed to answer questions on the test, learn safety inspection guidelines, and be more confident than ever when it comes to taking the test. DRONE FLIGHT OPERATIONS Interested in flying drones, or finding out more uses for them? In this class, students will learn to fly drones, using the Flame 450 by American-Drones, LLC. Students will also learn FAA regulations, drone law, drone safety, airspace considerations, and much more. Each student will have the opportunity to get real flight time. Students finishing the class will have the basic knowledge to safely fly drones. Students are welcome to bring their own personal drone, but MATC has state of the art drones that students will be able to use in class. Class sizes are limited for this course. Enroll now! DRONE BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE This class will teach you how to maintain and do repairs to your drone, as well as teach you how to build a drone. Whether you have a drone already, or are looking to purchase or build one, this class will be greatly beneficial. From equipment maintenance and wiring, to programing and GPS adjustments, this class will give you confidence in making repairs. MATC will provide the drone equipment that students will train on, or students are welcome to bring their own drones or drone equipment to class, and learn on those.

EMT- BASIC Join the exciting career field of the Emergency Medical Technician, a health care professional who is on the front lines of pre–hospital medical care. This entry level course consists of classroom training and hours in a clinical setting. Course work includes anatomy, physiology, assessment and trauma care. Includes 216 hours of classroom and skills training, plus 36 hours of clinical training to be scheduled by instructor. Successful completion prepares you for the state licensure and national registry examinations. COUCH TO 5K FITNESS TRAINING Have you ever considered running a 5k? This class will show you how people at all levels of fitness are capable of completing their first 5k. Whether you have been a runner in your past or have never walked more than to your refrigerator from your couch, you will enjoy this class. You will learn strategies and mindsets to help you succeed. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (DSLR BASICS) If you have a DSLR camera with changeable lenses and exposure settings and have basic knowledge of your camera, this class will help you understand how to work with your camera, format your media card, perform photo backup, shutter speed, ISO, aperture, white balance, metering, natural lighting, composition and flash to create better looking images. Students must have a tripod, DSLR camera and manual, not a point and shoot camera. Basic computer skills required.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (DSLR INTERMEDIATE) Continue to build on the skills and knowledge you gained in DSLR Basics. This class will dive into more details and advanced functions and strategies. Prerequisites: Must have taken Digital Photography Basics course.

GREETING CARD CRAFTING & EMBOSSING In this course the students will craft and create greeting cards of their choosing. Learn embossing techniques and rubber stamp techniques to create unique one of a kind cards. You do not have to have any previous knowledge to enroll in this course. These cards can be used for personal use or create an income by selling these handmade cards. Students will furnish supplies.

GUITAR BASICS Guitar Basics is designed for the student who has no prior experience playing guitar. This course is not a theory based or a music reading class. Students will learn chording, strumming and finger picking. Along with these skills they will learn correct hand position and tuning techniques. Practice is essential. Students will need their own guitar.

GUITAR- ADVANCED This course will continue to build on the chords and music notation from the basic course. This class will teach you more in–depth instruction on finger picking and strumming. Students will need their own guitar. Prerequisite – Guitar Basics.

JEWELRY MAKING (BEADING) No experience required. Students will learn beading and jewelry making basics along with proper tool techniques. Simple projects such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets and bookmarks will be made. Students will furnish supplies.

JEWELRY MAKING (ADVANCED BEADING) Experience required. In this class students will build on the basics and begin working with wire, leather and other fibers. More intricate designs and wire linking, wire wrapping and bead weaving will be taught. Prerequisite – Jewelry Making Beading.

OIL PAINTING - BASIC Learn to mix colors, use brush and knife techniques, and procedures to care for brushes in this informal class. Students are asked to bring a picture they would like to paint. Instruction for group and individual learning will be given. Students furnish supplies. No previous painting experience required. Supply list will be provided prior to class. Students will furnish supplies.

OIL PAINTING (ADVANCED) If you are a serious painter and like to have a good time, this class is for you. Advanced techniques, plus practice on difficult projects will be taught. All supplies and equipment furnished by students. Students will furnish supplies.

FIREARMS TRAINING

DEFENSIVE FIREARMS TRAINING COURSE This course will have an introduction to pistol skills and safe handling of firearms. Students will learn proper grip, stance, shot placement and shooting techniques. Students will also work on the draw from an open carry and/or concealment holster. Students will train in a safe environment in a state of the art MILO Range training simulator. Firearms will not be allowed on campus for this course. No live firearms will be used in the course, but a state of the art simulator will be utilized.

TACTICAL FIREARMS TRAINING COURSE This course will continue to build on the pistol skills learned in the basic course while mastering technique, holster work and speed of shooting single and multiple targets. Students will learn to shoot with their strong hand, off gun hand, two handed and one handed. Students will also work on movement drills, drawing on the move and shooting moving targets. Students will train in a safe environment in a state of the art MILO Range training simulator. Firearms will not be allowed on campus for this course. No live firearms will be used in the course, but a state of the art simulator will be utilized. Prerequisite: Must have satisfactorily completed Defensive Firearms course.

DAYTIME CAREER MAJORS

Equine Production-This career major is designed to introduce students to the care and management of horses. Students will be instructed in the selection of feeds, maintenance that horses require, selection of breeds, breeding techniques and skills to operate a healthy environment for the horses.

Horticulture/Floriculture Assistant- This career major introduces students to safe practices, use of tools and equipment, planting techniques, plant care, safe uses of chemicals and testing soil as related to the horticulture industry. Also, students will learn plant history, harmony, unity, color, balance, proportion, scale, focal point, rhythm line, form space, depth, texture and mechanics of floral design.

Audio Visual Integration- Students will learn to install, configure, troubleshoot and repair complex residential and light commercial systems. The systems they are responsible for include audio-visual storage, distribution and presentation; automation of lighting, applications, irrigation and environmental control systems; and monitoring of smoke, fire, and intruder systems.

Building & Grounds Maintenance- This career major introduces students to the safe practices, tools and equipment, chemical safety and uses and skills required to enter the building maintenance occupations. The student will also be provided the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills to safely operate tools associated within the landscaping maintenance industry.

CAD- This major prepares students for a career in a Computer- Aided Drafting (CAD) or for advancing to a college or university to pursue a higher degree. Students learn to convert ideas and objects into working drawings that meet current drafting industry standards. They do this by mastering and utilizing both computer-aided software and hand-sketching techniques. Courses include but are not limited to; Intro to CAD, Drawing and Document Management, and Presentation Graphics Animation (3D Modeling) all with an emphasis on Architectural Drafting.

Residential Carpentry-This career major will introduce students to the basic skills of a carpenter, safety practices and carpentry tools and equipment uses/operations. The student will also be introduced to materials used in cabinet making, blueprint reading, planning, measuring, cutting, and constructing cabinets and installing hardware. The students will further gain understanding and use of these skills by building a movable house that is sold at a sealed-bid auction.

Residential Electricians Assistant- This career major provides an understanding of the basic fundamentals of electricity and its practical applications, instructs the student in direct current and alternating current circuitry, teaches residential wiring, and gives the student an understanding of the National Electrical Code and how it applies to safe electrical installations. Students learn to install, diagnose and repair electrical systems for residential applications. After completion, students may continue their training toward their journeyman licensure.

Residential HVAC Technician- This career major is an introduction to air-conditioning and refrigeration, exploring career opportunities in the HVAC/R industry, personal safety and work practices, and personal protective equipment. Students will be in-structed in the proper handling of pressurized fluids, handling hazardous substances, hand and power tools and equipment used to test and service air conditioning.

Graphic Communications-This career major prepares students for future rolls in the graphic and advertising design industry. Students study typography, color theory, principles of design and composition, page layout, vector and raster images, and their applications to a variety of methods and styles of editing and print production. Students learn essential Adobe CC software to help create various types of graphic design and to prepare artwork for digital press production, wide format printing, vinyl signage, and screen printing. Safety, fundamentals of technology, proofing principles, finishing operations and digital photography are also covered. Study materials provided can also be used to prep for Adobe certifications.

Medical Office Assistant -This major prepares students for entry-level employment in a variety of health care facilities. Students learn admin-istrative routines and procedures followed in a medical office including correct medical terminology and advanced computer skills. Medical office accounting and procedures, electronic patient records, patient billing, and medical insurance claims are covered. Students learn about major insurance programs and federal health care legislation. Students gain skills required for numerous industry-relayed certifications.

Advanced Unlicensed Assistant-This career major prepares high school seniors and adult students to earn their certification in the health field with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing as an Advanced Unlicensed Assistant. The AUA performs an assistive role to the licensed nurses in a hospital setting. Students will build upon basic Certified Nurse Aide skills. Selected advanced skills such as EKG, legal and ethical aspects of health care, and appropriate behaviors are presented in a format combining classroom instruction, lab exercises, and clinical applications. Students must be 18 years of age to take the AUA licensure exam.

Allied Health-Exercise & Therapy Science is a one-year program for students interested in athletic training, physical therapy, fitness, physiology of exercise, nutrition, and other sports medicine related fields. This program includes course work and practical hands-on applications in the following areas: prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, taping and wrapping of injuries, first aid/CPR, emergency procedures, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, fitness/conditioning/strength programs and sports medicine.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)- This one-year program is intended to prepare students for work with a basic or advanced life support ambulance service. They will also be prepared to provide basic emergency care in other settings. The student who success-fully completes the course will be eligible to take the National Registry of EMT’s exam at the EMT level (must be at least 18 years of age to sit for the exam) and obtain licensure in the state of Oklahoma.

Health Careers Explore- Never has there been a greater demand for skilled professionals than in the constantly and rapidly changing health care industry. For students with an interest in health issues or those who are undecided about a career area, this one-year class provides the information and opportunities for making an informed choice. Students will get an overview of occupations in the health care field by touring medical facilities and prepare for a job in area nursing homes/hospitals/laboratories by learning basic nursing & home health skills including phlebotomy and pharmacy technician.

Practical Nursing Program- The Practical Nursing course is ten (10) months in length and consists of 1463 clock hours. Each year the program begins in August and finishes in June. Students interested in this program can prepare now by taking a medical terminology course for college credit or from Mid-America Technology Center and a Healthcare provider CPR course, as both are required before entry (Medical Terminology will be offered in July to students admitted to the program without it). A certified nurse assistant course is suggested. The entrance test required during the application process is the TEAS V (Test of Essential Academic Skills). Study guides and practice tests for this are available for purchase from www.atitesting.com. The next application period will be February to April 2017. DAYTIME CAREER MAJORSTherapeutic Health Careers-Exercise & Therapy Science is a one-year program for students interested in athletic training, physical therapy, fitness, physiology of exercise, nutrition, and other sports medicine related fields. Hospitality Service Assistant- This course of study introduces students to the world of work in the field of service careers in the hospitality industry. It is designed to help students make a successful transition from school to work. The curriculum is prepared to aid and instruct students in employability skills and specific occupational skills. Instruction provides for employment skills in areas such as socialization, communication, job procurement, safety and personal hygiene. Training for specific occupational skills is provided in the classroom as well as in simulated work-site learning.

Cosmetologist- The objective of this program is to prepare students to pass the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology License Examination. Students must complete 1,000 hours of training during their junior and senior years and receive a high school diploma to be eligible to take the state board exam. Good attendance and grades are a must!

Cyber Security- This major prepares students to plan, coordinate and implement security measures for networking systems. Students first learn the basics of repair and maintenance of computer hardware, software and operating systems along with the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network hardware. Then they are introduced to basic security principles involving networks and operating systems, including the current threats and vulnerabilities of the cyber landscape. They gain an understanding of the principles of risk management, security architectures, incident handling, disaster recovery, ethical hacking, and secure systems administration. Students gain skills required for certifications offered by Microsoft and CompTIA.

Multimedia Assistant- This major prepares students to create and edit graphics for video, print and web publishing. Students gain fundamental web authoring skills and design strategies along with digital photography skills. They learn advanced non-linear computer editing techniques as they complete video-based projects for broadcast production. Customer service, marketing, project management and professionalism are stressed. Students gain skills required for Adobe, CIW, WOW, and/or Apple industry certifications. Network Systems Technician-Students in this major will learn to design, install, configure and troubleshoot network installations. This will include the programming and installation of network routers, switches, Wi-Fi and other network software and hardware. Students will also learn about category 5, 6 and fiber optic cable termination and installation. This major also includes training in the installation and management of a server environment using Windows Server Operating Systems, VMware application, Network Array Storage (NAS) in conjunction with other server components. The training received as part of this major can include certifications from CompTIA Net+ and A+, Microsoft certifications and Cisco certifications. Students will also learn to program using Java to develop software for personal computers and applications on the Android platform.

Criminal Justice Officer-

This major is an introduction to the historical background, professional direction, agencies and processes, purposes, functions, ethics, administration, and technical problems of the criminal justice system. Areas examined are municipal, state, and federal systems.

CNC Machinist-

This course prepares students for an entry-level job in the machining and metals industry. Students will learn the techniques and skills of shaping metals by using lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses and computerized machinery.

Structural Welder-

This major is an introduction to common welding and cutting processes used in metal fabrication of structural steel. Students will be introduced to Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Oxy-Fuel Cutting (OFC), Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), Air Carbon Arc Cutting (AAC), metal preparation and heat-treating. Students will also be introduced to blue print reading and construction of items according to specifications.

Pre-Engineering-Students in this major will study pre-engineering through Project-Lead-the-Way curriculum that will introduce them to the concepts and principles of engineering and there will be a strong emphasis on developing problem solving skills. They will learn how engineers use math, science and technology to solve problems. Pre-Engineering prepares high school students for success in colleges of engineering.

Automotive Service Technician-In this career major, the student will learn about the history, current state and future of the automotive service industry. Students are prepared for entry level employment or college in one more of the eight A.S.E. areas. All eight areas are introduced, with specialization in Brakes, Electrical, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, and Steering and Suspension. The course consists of classroom and hands-on live work projects.

Combination Collision Repair Technician-This career major provides the student with instruction needed to develop a working knowledge of basic techniques in automotive collision technology. Theory and/or shop experience are gained in the areas of: major and minor collision repair; spot, panel and overall refinishing; color mixing; spray painting methods and materials; frame and uni-body alignment methods; and automotive mig welding.

Medium/Heavy Diesel Service Technician-Students in this major will learn skills needed to be able to cover the diagnosis and repair of the modern diesel truck. They will cover safety, tools, and equipment operation for the repair industry; learn about electrical theory, electrical system repairs, brake systems, engine repair, climate control system, steering/suspension systems and the drive train. Students will cover Engine Performance and Drivability diagnosis using diagnostic tools to determine necessary action. Students will learn how to test and replace the components of all of these systems. In addition, students will learn about the preventative maintenance inspection and service procedures, regulations, and documentation. This program is accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) in all 8 areas: Brakes, Steering & Suspension, Drivetrain, HVAC, Electrical/Electronics, Preventive Maintenance, Diesel Engines, and Hydraulics. Enrollment InformationAnyone 16 years or older may enroll in the Adult Education short-term programs offered at Mid-America Technology Center. Enrollment is easy and may be completed as follows.1. Select the program(s) in which you wish to enroll from this brochure. 2. Fill out the enrollment application including all information requested.3.
