What are discovery backpacks?

Discovery backpacks are filled

with fun activities and information

that are centered around nature

in our area and our parks!

You can sign out* a backpack

from the Environmental Education

Centre (EECO) on Springfield

Road, within Mission Creek

Regional Park.

*Suggested $2 donation,

There are 6 backpacks to choose

from!

The Pond Study backpack takes

you to the Turtle Pond in Mission

Creek Regional Park where you

can catch and identify the small

bugs and animals that live in the

pond, as well as see the Western

Painted Turtle, ducks, and other

animals!

Catch a mini beast in Mission

Creek Park and use the

information provided to identify

the critter! Play games, go on a

scavenger hunt, and read up on

bugs common to your area!

The Rock On backpack explores

fossils, different kinds of rocks,

and land formations, such as

mountains. You can explore the

park and engage in our take-

food web, and more!

Try your eyes at birding in

Mission Creek Regional Park!

How many birds can you spot?

Use our binoculars and birding

booklet to see and identify the

birds on our park! Play our

silhouette game, sketch a bird, or

read a bird book!

This backpack is available from

August - October, while the

Kokanee salmon are spawning

here at Mission Creek! Take a

look at the different stages of the

Kokanee salmon’s life and learn

about the journey of the salmon.
